CHAPTER 44.

Amelia offered to help change his bandage immediately after getting into the bedroom.

"Do you know how to do it?" Alessandro asked her and she frowned with displeasure. However, she decided not to bother much with it as he might not mean it in an insulting way.

"My younger sister was quite troublesome when she was little so I was prepared for both her little and big injuries." She purposely removed the fact that she needed it more for herself because of the mistreatment she suffered at home.

"Please, take your seat and let me do it."

Amelia said as she sat on the edge of the bed, the first aid kit resting on the bedside table. Her hands trembled slightly as she prepared to replace Alessandro's bandage.

Alessandro slowly took off his shirt while maintaining eye contact with her for a few seconds before she decided to look away.

He then sat shirtless in front of her, his chiseled torso bearing faint scars from whatever secret battles he might have gotten hi

CHAPTER 45The dimly lit room reeked of cigarette smoke and sweat. The tension in the air was suffocating as Zach paced back and forth, his sharp features twisted in fury. The men he had sent to execute the mission stood before him, heads bowed, trembling under his piercing glare. "You had just one job,” Zach growled, his voice low but filled with venom. “One simple job, and you couldn’t even do that right.”One of the men, a wiry figure with a nervous twitch, attempted to speak. “Sir, we didn’t anticipate—” "Didn’t anticipate? Should that word even exist in your dictionary? What's up with you all and anticipation, huh?" Zach snapped, cutting him off. He slammed his fist onto the wooden table, the sound echoing through the room. “Do you think Alessandro gives second chances? Do you think I do?”The man shrank back, his eyes darting nervously to his companions. None of them dared to speak, knowing Zach’s temper could erupt at any moment.Zach leaned forward, his cold, dark eyes

CHAPTER 46Amelia’s heart pounded in her chest as she hastily threw on a coat after rummaging her clothes for something. She was going to take a few things with her, but that might cause unnecessary attention, so she overlooked them. The most important thing right now for her was to escape from this premises. She tiptoed out of Alessandro’s bedroom. Her mind was racing. What had she just discovered? Guns. Weapons. And her picture. Was she in danger? Was Alessandro planning something? Was he probably sent after her? She had no time to rationalize her fears. The room had been suffocating, and now all she could think about was getting away. She slipped down the hallway, keeping her movements as quiet as possible while also looking back anxiously. Deep in her heart, she was praying that Alessandro wouldn't get in her way. The penthouse was eerily silent, save for the occasional shuffle of a bodyguard outside. Swallowing her fear, she took a deep breath and approached the nearest guard.

The sharp, scent of the air pricked at her nostrils, and when she tried to move, she realized with a jolt that her arms and legs were restrained. Panic gripped her as her eyes fluttered open to a dimly lit room. She could see her shadow on the concrete walls from a single, bare bulb hanging above her. Her breathing quickened, and her chest heaved as she tugged futilely against the ropes binding her wrists to the chair. Her heart pounded in her chest like a drumbeat, her fear swelling with every passing second. She blinked rapidly, trying to shake off the dizziness and piece together what had happened. The last thing she remembered was standing under the streetlights, crying into her phone while communicating with Luca, and then... a sharp pain, darkness, and now this. Her body trembled, and tears stung her eyes as she scanned the room. There was nothing comforting in her surrounding

CHAPTER 48Alessandro's mind raced as he paced the room, his fists clenched by his sides. The phone call he had just finished only amplified his worry. His thoughts were consumed by Amelia, and no matter how hard he tried to push them aside, his fear clawed at him, threatening to break through. For the first time in his life, he had a reason to be this fearful. Every moment that passed without any leads was another moment closer to losing her. The woman who had somehow slipped into his life and captured his heart was now in the hands of someone dangerous. Jack, a tech expert Alessandro had reluctantly called in, sat beside the computer, his fingers dancing over the keyboard. The hum of the machine filled the silence as he worked, the tension thickening in the room. "Where’s the signal coming from?" Alessandro demanded, his voice tight with impatience as he noticed the change on the screen. Jack didn't immediately answer. His eyes stayed glued to the screen as the map flickered

His gaze flickered over her, a look of cruel satisfaction dancing in his eyes as he set the tray down on the small table beside her. “Here,” he said with a mocking grin. “A little something to keep you going. Not that I expect you to enjoy it. I just don't want you to die when it isn't your time to do — yet.”Amelia didn’t move, her eyes locked on him with a mix of fear and defiance. She wasn’t hungry. She wasn’t sure if she’d ever be again. The lack of food or water didn’t matter when all she could think about was Alessandro, and how far away he felt in this moment. "Won't you eat?" Zach asked her. "What if you have poisoned it?" She spat out and Zach chuckled. "That's way too easy to get rid of yo

ALESSANDRO'S POVI walked back into the penthouse, my footsteps echoing through the walls of the house, each one heavier than the last. The space that once symbolized my control now felt suffocating, mocking me with its silence. Tossing my jacket onto the sofa, I began pacing, the agitation clawing at my chest.Where was she? Who had taken her?I hated the fact that I was helpless in this situation. I couldn't consider myself anything more than a failure.I ran a hand through my hair, trying to piece together any clue, any sign I might have missed. The questions wouldn’t stop circling my mind, a relentless storm that refused to let me rest. I dropped onto the sofa, elbows on my knees, hands clasped tightly together as I replayed the past few days in my head.Amelia. I could still hear her voice, soft and full of trust. Her smile had a way of easing the darkness in me, but now, the memory of it only made the guilt hit harder. She had trusted me, and I had failed her.I simply failed he

CHAPTER 51Third Person POV[A few hours before the event] Alessandro paced the length of his office, his jaw tightening with each passing second. The rage simmering beneath his skin had grown unbearable these days. Days had passed, and there was still no sign of Amelia. Every avenue explored, every lead followed, had resulted in a dead end. He wanted to be patient, as he had been for a while,, to receive a call from Zac,h, but there was nothing. If he didn't act fast, the psycho could do something outrageous. He couldn’t sit idly anymore. His fingers drummed against his desk as an idea began to form in his mind. "Mike," Alessandro barked. Mike appeared instantly, standing at attention, ready for his orders. "Accept the invitation for the event. I want to see him. Tonight.”Mike hesitated. “You’re sure about that? He’s not the type to make things easy.” "Neither am I. Knowing how foolish he is, he is likely to want to mock me for what has happened. That way — we can eas

He held a tray of food in one hand, the other casually resting on the doorframe as if he had all the time in the world. "Going somewhere, Amelia?”She didn’t respond, panic surging through her veins. Desperately, she tried to push herself the rest of the way out, her movements frantic now. "Ah, ah, ah,” Zach said, setting the tray down and striding toward her. “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”Before she could make it through, he grabbed her ankle, yanking her back into the room. It was a rare moment—one filled with peace, love, and celebration.Mia had arrived that evening, dressed in a simple but elegant green dress that complimented her eyes. She hugged Amelia tightly, her heart full as she whispered, “You’re glowing.”Amelia smiled. “Thank you for coming.” "I somehow thought that I wasn't going to get invited though. I almost wrote your offense down." The two of them laughed and hugged each other again. "Alright ladies, listen up. Delivery is here." Tracy whistled as she walked in with Alessandro and Mike with drinks already in hand. The table was full of food, drinks, and an endless flow of laughter that only close bonds could create.“I still can’t believe this place,” Tracy said, spinning around with her glass of red wine. “I mean, wow. Amelia sat calmly on the edge of the bed, her expression soft but tired—like someone who had finally let go of a burden she’d carried for too long.Tracy jumped to her feet, pacing a short distance before turning sharply. “You can’t be serious right now. Are you telling me that the man you’re with—Alessandro—is part of the mafia? Like the actual mafia?”Amelia sighed, nodding slowly. “Yes. He is. But it’s not like that of the wicked Mafia. He’s different now, Tracy. You have to understand.”Tracy just blinked at her, her lips parted, but no words came out. When she finally found her voice, it came out in a bitter, breathless whisper. “Amelia... why didn’t you tell me this earlier? What if something had happened to you? What if you had died? The house was peaceful again. The sun poured into the kitchen like warm honey, slipping through the wide windows and stretching across the marble counters. But peace didn’t mean Alessandro’s mind was quiet. He stood before the stove, brows furrowed, eyes glued to the frying pan like it had personally offended him. A spatula in one hand, an open cookbook in the other, and a look of complete helplessness smeared across his gorgeous face.Amelia descended the stairs, rubbing the sleep from her eyes, her silk robe brushing lightly against her bare legs.“Good morning,” she said with a yawn. "Good morning, Princess." He replied. She froze halfway through the last step when she saw him. "What… are you doing?” she asked him. There was too much noise in the ballroom—guards restraining Luca, Isabelle sobbing, Vincent pacing with his hands clenched so tightly his knuckles were bloodless. The guests were herded out by confused ushers, their whispered speculations louder than their footsteps. But above them all, a scent had begun to creep in.Smoke.By the time Vincent realized it, it was already too late."What—what's that smell?"A scream came from the corridor. Then another.Someone burst into the ballroom, shouting, "Fire! The west wing is on fire!"Panic ignited faster than the flames.Chairs screeched back, people stampeded toward the exits, and guards scrambled to maintain control. The chandelier shook from the vibrations of chaos, the floor slick from spilled wine and shattered glasses."Get everyone out," Vincent roared. "NOW!"But his voice drowned beneath the cacophony. He turned to look at Luca, only to find his son had vanis

CHAPTER 111The room was a cathedral of tension. The priest took his place between the two couples, slightly confused but too afraid to ask questions. In his decades of officiating weddings, this was his first time facing two grooms, two brides, and one room full of unspoken rage.He was, after all, in the middle of dignitaries who weren't just ordinary dignitaries but Mafias — people who weren't by what the law says,s, so he had to be very careful. Alessandro stood beside Isabelle.Luca stood beside Amelia.Their stances mirrored one another—two powerful men claiming love in the same moment, but only one held truth in his chest. The guests sat in hushed awe, some whispering, some pretending to sip from their champagne glasses while watching everything unfold with bated breath.Vincent stood at the far end of the room, arms folded, jaw tight. He had kept control for so long, but even he could feel the edges slipping. Why had Alessandro agreed so easily? Why had Amelia gone so quiet?

CHAPTER 110The estate had never seen a morning like this.Cars glided in one after the other—sleek, tinted, silent. High-ranking families, underworld tycoons, influential business moguls… all arriving in curated elegance, stepping out in tailored suits and shimmering gowns. It wasn’t just a wedding anymore—it was a political stage dressed in white silk and threat-laced promises.Guards lined the hallways. Their radios whispered and clicked with coded words. No one said it aloud, but everyone felt it: this wasn’t going to be a normal wedding. It wasn’t about love. It never was.It was about control. And somewhere inside the very heart of the estate, Amelia sat in a velvet chair with her hands folded tightly in her lap, the corset of her dress digging into her ribs like a warning. Her hair had been swept into soft waves, her makeup flawless—but her eyes… her eyes were hollow. Watching. Waiting. Two guards stood by her door. She watched the clock tick, minute by minute. CHAPTER 109The morning sun streamed in through the heavily draped windows of Vincent’s estate, casting a dull, golden glow on the silent halls. But inside the grand ballroom, chaos was beginning to take shape—underneath the surface. It was such a wonderful day, after all, the moment that Vincent had been waiting for. Staff bustled in and out. Florists arranged bouquets of rare roses imported overnight. The chandeliers were polished to a blinding sparkle. Musicians tested strings and keys. Everything was being staged for what Vincent had boasted would be the “most powerful alliance in the city’s history”—the double wedding of his daughter and his heir. This was exactly what he had dreamed about. "We would not need to have stressed this much if only he had consented to it earlier." Vincent had said to himself while watching the activities happen below him. "Hopefully, he won't pull a string that would ruin everything, or else I will ruin his life." He added with a cold fac

Amelia suspected that her conversations might be tracked but she didn't mind. It was better than not trying at all. The house was unusually quiet, the silence feeding her anxiety as she dialed Mia’s number. It rang once. Twice.“Hello?” came Mia’s voice, sharp and worried.“It’s me,” Amelia whispered quickly, constantly glancing over her shoulder. “It’s Amelia.”“Amelia! What’s happening? I tried coming back but for some weird reason, I wasn't allowed in. I gave all the explanation that I could but they were not having it and rather insisted that I should go back.” Mia’s voice rose, panic dripping with every word.
