CHAPTER 26.

AMELIA'S POV.

"At this particular point, I am not sure about the source of your excitement anymore," Mia said with tiredness while sitting down on my bed and watching me go from one side to another exasperatedly.

"It's not my fault for wanting to look presentable on my first night out. Do you know how anxious I am right now?" I glanced at her above my shoulder and she nodded.

"I understand. You're getting the same feelings that I got when I was going to visit my boyfriend's family for the first time. I almost developed cold feet."

I chuckled as I remembered the situation. Although, I couldn't be there for her that time but Mia had ensured to keep me on a video call for an hour and thirty minutes while projecting and confessing her fears and insecurities.

"I think mine is a bit different. I am not scared that they might think I am not compatible with Mr Alessandro. I am just his secretary, after all, but I simply want to match his aura, I think."

AMELIA'S POV I stepped out of the car, the soft click of my heels against the pavement barely audible over the low hum of chatter and music spilling out from the grand building ahead. For a moment, I was frozen, my gaze traveling up the massive structure bathed in golden lights. Every window seemed to gleam like a star, casting a glow across the carefully manicured gardens that bordered the entrance. It was the kind of place you only ever saw in movies—a testament to wealth and power, with an air so powerful it made me feel out of place before I’d even taken a step forward. If I was even nervous before coming, I felt more nervous than ever and I was secretly questioning my choice. But I was here now, there was literally nothing that I could do. The red carpet stretched out before me, flanked by ropes and guarded by staff dressed in sleek, black uniforms. I caught sight of a few reporters on the sidelines, their cameras flashing intermittently, their voices murmuring questions to any

THIRD PERSON'S POV.Amelia’s breath hitched. Her gaze flicked to the polished dance floor, where couples moved with effortless grace. Panic bubbled beneath her chest. “I don’t know how,” she admitted softly, clutching her gown tighter in her hands. His lips curved into the faintest smile, equal parts reassuring and provocative. “Then let me teach you. All you have to do is to follow my lead.”Before she could object, he reached for her hand, his fingers warm and firm as they curled around hers. His touch sent a jolt through her, a pulse of heat that traveled all the way to her core.He led her onto the dance floor, the crowd seeming to fade into a blur around them. All Amelia could focus on was the way Alessandro held her, his confidence steady, grounding. "Relax,” he murmured, his voice so close it sent shivers down her spine. His other hand rested against the small of her back, pulling her gently closer.Amelia nodded, though her body felt anything but relaxed. His presence wa

AMELIA'S POVCHAPTER 29.The grip around my hand tightened and I could not help but throw a curious glance at Mr Alessandro before my eyes bounced back on the stranger in front of us who had a playful smirk on his face. That was a huge contrast to Mr Alessandro's cold looks. "Why are you looking at me that way?" He questioned with his brows raised. "I only praised the both of you for doing exceptionally well. I mean no harm." He raised both hands — probably trying to hint at how sincere he was. Mr Alessandro sighed and looked around. I was confused at this point, not to even add the fact I had an unsettling feeling about this man. The man moved closer to us. He faced me and offered me another smile that didn't reach his eyes. "Good evening, Beauty." He attempted to hold my palm and kiss the back of it but I quickly withdrew it from him. He chortled and dipped his hands inside his pockets. "My name is Zach — Sandro's one and only accomplice in crime..." "Shu

CHAPTER 30THIRD PERSON'S POV.The next morning, Amelia woke up with the sensation of his lips still lingering on hers. She could not sleep well throughout the night. She had different unholy dreams about last night's kiss and now she was confused. She sat upright in bed, clutching her pillow, replaying the events of the previous night. His smoldering gaze, the heat of his touch, and the way his lips had claimed hers with a fervor that left her breathless—all of it was too much to process. Who would have thought that her boss could do such? Her face burned as she groaned into the pillow. He’s your boss! What were you thinking? She scolded herself. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t erase the memory of how her body had betrayed her, leaning into him, yearning for more. "I was supposed to resist." She groaned again and hit her face on her pillow again. She then stood up and paced around her small apartment, biting her lip as she debated whether to tell anyone about w

CHAPTER 31AMELIA'S POVThe kiss lingered in my mind like a song on repeat which was quite surprising to me because I wasn't expecting it to have this much effect on me.It'd been a hell of a ride trying to avoid Mr Alessandro after telling him in the office that I would like us to pretend like it never happened. Every time I tried to focus, Mr Alessandro’s face would flash before me, and I’d feel the phantom touch of his lips. Was it strange that I had the thoughts of wanting to feel those lips again? My cheeks warmed at the thought, but I shook it off and threw myself into work.Hours passed, and just as I was getting comfortable with the monotony of emails and schedules, my desk phone rang. I picked it up, tucking it between my ear and shoulder. "Miss Amelia,” the receptionist said politely, “there’s a package for you downstairs.” "A package?” I frowned, tapping my pen against the desk. “Who’s it from?” "I don’t know, ma’am. The delivery man didn’t say. He just asked

CHAPTER 32AMELIA'S POV "This is so weird! Now I am confused instead. I've never been when it comes to the issue of the heart." Mia said with her left hand on my shoulder while her right-hand middle finger was pointed back to her chest to emphasize the "heart." I rolled my eyes tiredly and gently pushed her away as I went to sit on my bed. "I just don't get it, make it make sense to me." I pulled closer to me a pillow and made it rest on my lap while I stared at Mia for any more doodle analysis from her side. "At first, we thought that the boss seemed to be interested in you, but now it is his assistant. Bae, you're a hot cake." She squealed and jumped up in excitement but I could not understand the excitement. "Let us be serious, Mia. I am more than confused, okay? What should I do?" "Maybe we are just overthinking the issue; It could be that his handwriting is just similar to the notes, don't you think so too? People can have similar handwriting."I shook

AMELIA'S POVCHAPTER 33. When we arrived at the hotel, I couldn’t help but be impressed. The place was luxurious, with polished marble floors, gleaming chandeliers, and a sleek, modern design that gave it an air of sophistication. I wasn't that surprised to know that he was a major investor in the hotel. Mr Alessandro led the way to the reception desk. "One suite, please," he said smoothly, his face stern like it was whenever he was facing I watched as the receptionist handed him a key card. "Mr. Alessandro, your suite is ready. We hope you have a pleasant stay," the receptionist said, her voice a little too sweet as she handed him the key.Alessandro nodded, his smile was professional but distant. He turned toward me. "Come with me."As we walked toward the elevators, I felt a little out of place in the opulence of the surroundings. I wasn’t used to staying in places like this, and the grandeur made me feel like an outsider. But working with Mr Alessandro meant that I was going

CHAPTER 34.THIRD PERSON'S POV.The ride back to the hotel was calm yet Amelia felt like it was so unsettling. Alessandro had this look on his face that scared boredom but at the same time, it didn't look like he was bored. Anger perhaps? Amelia was tense regardless. She would catch herself stealing a glance at this man once in a while to see if he had that same fixated expression, and yes, he did. Alessandro would quickly change his head direction whenever he was about to steal a glance at her but from the corner of his eyes, he could see her turning his way. He was struggling so hard not laying his eyes on her. They arrived at the hotel with Alessandro leading the way in huge strides while Amelia followed him timidly. Alessandro ordered room service when they got inside the bedroom—a bottle of wine and dinner. "Let's eat," Alessandro spoke out for the first time since they left the venue. He took off his shirt and rolled up the sleeves of his white shirt. "Hmm," Amelia

CHAPTER 59AMELIA'S POV.I sat stiffly in the plush chair across from the woman who introduced herself as Maria. She had kind eyes and a soft smile, but I wasn’t fooled. Alessandro had sent me to her, and that alone made me wary. The memory of our earlier conversation was still fresh in my mind.[FLASHBACK]Alessandro had walked into my room that morning with his domineering presence. He was dressed in all black, as usual, his shirt unbuttoned at the top, revealing a hint of the tattoo inked onto his skin. "What is it?" I calmly asked him. "I booked a session for you with a therapist,” he had said, his voice measured.I paused and then let out a cold laugh, shaking my head. “A therapist? I can't believe it. You must really think I’m mad.”His jaw tightened, but he didn’t snap at me. “That’s not what I think.” "Then why? Why would you do that if not because you think I appear foolish to you?” I folded my arms, leaning against the pillows. "Amelia, please don't twist my wor

CHAPTER 58.AMELIA'S POVThe sound of the piano playing softly from downstairs echoed through the quiet house. It was Alessandro’s idea to bring it into the room, even though I had refused to touch it for the past few days. Somehow, he figured out that I liked playing piano. It'd been a while since I played one and because I didn't personally have one, I neglected playing. He had arranged it carefully and placed it next to the large window in my bedroom, where the sunlight would filter in during the day.Yeah, I had my very own bedroom now, but it didn't feel private enough because I still had him intruding on my space. I could feel his presence even when he wasn’t in the room with me, his care almost suffocating me, making me more confused about my life. I was still trying to adjust. Adjust to the fact that I was trapped in his world. Trapped in his house and, perhaps more terrifyingly, in his life,e, I was going nowhere anytime soon. I didn’t want to acknowledge how much I noti

CHAPTER 57AMELIA'S POVI existed in silence.Days had passed, or maybe weeks—I couldn’t tell anymore. Time had lost meaning inside this gilded prison Alessandro called his mansion. The only certainty I had was the unbearable weight in my chest, the dull ache of hopelessness pressing against my ribs. I barely spoke. I barely moved.I was alive, but I wasn’t living. That was my situation actually. The first time I woke up in this place, I stared at the high, unfamiliar ceiling for hours, feeling a numbness settle deep within me. I remembered his words; he said he cared about me. I wasn't that sure if he understood what that meant because if he did, I wouldn't still be here. What mattered was that I wasn’t free. The first thing I did the day after was ask for my phone. No one answered me.The second thing I did was ask to leave. That request was denied.I had walked to the door in a daze, the world tilting slightly under my feet, but before I could even grasp the handle, Alessandro’s

CHAPTER 56Amelia’s consciousness stirred, her eyelids felt impossibly heavy for her to move, her body weak and sore as though she had been dragged through hell itself. Darkness blurred the edges of her memory, but sooner than she expected, fragments of the cruelty she had gone through in the hands of Zach started to resurface. She winced, her throat dry and raw, and as her senses slowly returned, she realized she wasn’t alone. The sound of deep, uneven breathing filled the room. She turned her head, her movements sluggish, and saw Alessandro sitting in a chair by the bed. His elbows rested on his knees, his head bowed, and his hands clasped tightly together. His face, etched with exhaustion, was unshaven, and the dark circles beneath his eyes spoke of sleepless nights.Amelia wasn't able to figure out things fully yet. "Where…” Amelia’s voice cracked, barely audible. She cleared her throat and tried again. “Where am I?”Alessandro’s head snapped up, his piercing eyes locking on

His shirt was soaked with her blood, and his breathing was uneven, panic etched on his face. "Help! She’s losing too much blood!" he shouted, his voice echoing through the silent night. Two nurses and a doctor rushed out with a stretcher, immediately taking Amelia from him. "What's her condition?" one of the nurses asked as they hurriedly wheeled her inside. "She was in an accident — a fire accident," Luca said, trying to keep his voice steady. "She got hit on her head, and she’s been unconscious since then."The doctor nodded and gestured for Luca to follow. They moved swiftly, disappearing into the surgery wing. Luca tried to keep up but was stopped by another nurse at the door. "You’ll have to wait here, sir. We’ll update you as soon as we can," she said, her voice firm but kind.Luca sank into a nearby chair, running

CHAPTER 54The fire roared like an unrelenting beast, consuming the building in its entirety. Thick smoke billowed into the night sky, and the acrid smell of burning wood and chemicals stung Alessandro’s nose. He stood outside the blazing structure, his fists clenched so tightly that his knuckles turned white. His heart hammered in his chest, screaming at him to go inside, even as Mike’s strong grip on his shoulder held him back. "Don’t do it, Mr Alessandro,” Mike said firmly, his voice barely audible over the roaring flames. “You’ll die if you go in there!” "She’s in there, Mike!” Alessandro snapped, shrugging off his grip. “I can’t leave her!” "You don’t know that for sure!” Mike countered, his eyes wide with desperation. "The fire is wild, sir. If you go inside, you will die!"The fire was blazing furiously — if Amelia was indeed inside the room, there was no way that she was still going to be alive. She would have been burnt down already. Also, if they didn't leave im

Mike entered quietly, holding a tablet displaying a map of Zach’s property. “We’ve confirmed increased activity around his house. Guards moving in shifts, additional surveillance. If she’s anywhere, it’s there.”Alessandro stopped pacing, his sharp gaze locking on the screen. “Then we’re done waiting.” "Are you sure about this, Boss?” Mike hesitated. “Zach’s not an idiot. He’ll be prepared.” "If you ever ask that question again until we are done with this, Mike, you'll regret it." He threatened Mike and pushed him out of his way. "Ah, ah, ah,” Zach said, setting the tray down and striding toward her. “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”Before she could make it through, he grabbed her ankle, yanking her back into the room. Amelia let out a cry, her fingernails clawing at the windowsill as she tried to hold on, but his grip was too strong. She landed hard on the floor, her breath knocked out of her. He wanted to be patient, as he had been for a while,, to receive a call from Zac,h, but there was nothing. If he didn't act fast, the psycho could do something outrageous. He couldn’t sit idly anymore. His fingers drummed against his desk as an idea began to form in his mind. "Mike," Alessandro barked. Mike appeared instantly, standing at attention, ready for his orders. "Accept the invitation for the event. I want to see him. Tonight.”Mike hesitated. “You’re sure about that? He’s not the type to make things easy.” "Neither am I. Knowing how foolish he is, he is likely to want to mock me for what has happened. That way — we can eas
