"Paris... help me, please!" cried the girl with jet black hair and a pair of silver eyes.

"You should understand why we're doing this, twin. It's for your own good," the seven-year-old boy replied.

The girl stared at her twin in pure shock. Her eyebrows narrowed and her lips parted. Silently wishing that this wasn't real. Hindi siya makapaniwala sa sinabi nito. He was like stabbing her face to face, and there's no point in denying that it's hurting her. She felt betrayed.

"Paris... bakit?" She felt a pang of pain as she fell to her knees.

"Why?" the boy paused and gazed at his twin. His eyes were full of confusion, full of doubts. They were gleaming with tears that Paris was trying to hold back.

"Because it's the right thing to do. Kakambal kita pero kailangan naming gawin ang tama," he continued.

The girl clenched her fist. "Kailan ba naging tama ang pumatay?"

"Kapag tama at hindi makasarili ang dahilan mo," said Paris. "You're a threat to the world... to us."

The girl bit her lower lip to refrain from her sobs. She is hopeless. She felt drained and unable to fight for herself.

"But..." Paris hushed her twin before she can even continue.

He leaned closer to her and whispered, "We're just saving you, twin. Be grateful."

"How can I!?" the girl exclaimed, clenching her fist and digging her nails into her palm.

"How can I be grateful, Paris? Tell me!" a light sob escaped her lips. You're so selfish."

"No! You are selfish. Hindi mo ba naiintindihan? You're a threat to us! With that black wings of yours, you're a child of a demon!

The girl froze at what she heard. She didn't know. She knows that she's odd. She's very much aware of that. Apart from the huge black wings right behind her, wala na s'yang ibang nakikitang kakaiba.

"Your eyes... your eyes turns pure black every time you wake up," a tear escaped from Paris' eyes. "Tell me, twin. Paano kami magiging ligtas mula sa'yo?"

The girl remained silent. She was torn between fighting or sacrificing.

There must be another way. There should be.

"What about me?" she asked.

Hindi pinansin ni Paris ang tanong nito. Instead, he wiped his tears and started walking away.

She was left glued on her spot, crying and begging for her brother's pity.

Her sobs became hoarse. She couldn't contain herself. She felt her chest tightening as if it was squeezed by two gigantic hands.

She couldn't see any emotions in the woman's eyes. She was staring at her intently.

She gathered all her remaining strength and stood up. "Mom... help me."

Her eyes were pleading, full of tears that hindered her vision. Inabot niya ang kamay sa harapan.

"Mom..." she cried.

A glint of hope flashed through the girl's face as her mother walked towards her.

The woman stopped right in front of her daughter. The girl was about to reach her mother's hand when a cold palm met her face.

"You are no daughter of mine," the woman said in a monotonous tone.

Hindi makapaniwalang tinitigan niya ang kanyang ina. Her face was burning in pain.

Her world just shut down in an instant. Thinking what is wrong with her, was it her huge wings? Her black eyes? Her weirdness?

Am I a monster? A freak? A real child of a demon?

These questions were crowding her mind. The pain in her very core was beyond painful than her mother's slap.

It was the fact that her family has given up on her. The most painful feeling she had ever felt in her entire existence, painful more than anything.

"Mom... please," she pleaded.

"You're a monster..." the woman said and walked away, not giving her a single glance.

"Anak..."

Napalingon siya sa baritonong boses. She felt her chest thudding in an unusual way. She could hear it, clear as crystal.

"Dad!" She rushed to her father's direction and clung unto his broad shoulders. "Help me, please."

She, again, started sobbing. Getting louder than usual. Hoping that her father would spare her life.

"My child... please, understand."

She couldn't believe it. Was her father brainwashed? Why can't he fight for her?

Her knees weakened. She fell unto the ground and unable to speak. She lost everything.

Matiim niya itong tinitigan.

"Why?" she muttered through gritted teeth. "Mom, Dad, why?"

Both of her parents fell silent, and the silence was killing her. It was torture for her.

But surprisingly, she did not shed tears. Not anymore. She felt drained and empty, with no room for any feelings. Feelings that were taken away by her parents when they shoved her to death's needlepoint.

Not a minute had passed, a man joined her parents. He was a thick looking man wearing a plum knee-length robe with ash grey hair, emerald green eyes, and messy thick eyebrows. His nose was pointy but quite crooked. He looks like a middle-aged man, as to how the little girl suspected.

"Ikaw ba ang papatay sa'kin?" said the girl in a deep voice. Deeper than she had ever spoken.

She scanned the man's face with no fear ever creeping her body. There was a slight cut on the man's neck that looks like a hundred-year-old scar but was still visible to her eyes.

The little girl lowered her gaze as the man held up a bow and aimed an arrow towards her. She clenched her fist once again. She's ready to face death... to welcome death.

She closed her eyes as she heard her father's weep, chanting her name over and over again. A light smile formed on her lips and blurry images of her childhood flashed through her mind. A memory she will now choose to forget.

She gulped and bit her lip as she felt an excruciating feeling right in her chest. A tear fell through her cheek. The warm liquid she will no longer feel after death. The pain was killing her. Her father's weep became as low as a baby's whisper. She felt drowsy... She wants to sleep.

And she did.

On that day, lying underneath the broad daylight, a girl named Aurora died. And as her name symbolizes dawn, the rise from darkness.

She, too, sworn to rise from the dead.

  • Curse of the Fallen Deity   Chapter 1: She is Aurora

"HOY, babae! Bumalik ka rito!"I cussed and ran as fast as I could when I heard the annoying high-pitched voice behind me."Give me back my Dims!"I tilted my head and rolled my eyes. Ang ingay. Panting and gasping for air, I found myself hiding behind a bunch of stinky trash bags. And when I say stinky, really stinky. These will be enough, I think?"You thief! Nandito ka lang pala!"My eyes widened, not in horror, but in panic. I can't be seen! Come on, Ara! I felt light as a feather. My skin turned ash gray. My vision became clearer and sharp. I was not panting anymore. I could feel my body joi

  • Curse of the Fallen Deity   Chapter 2: Genesis, the Werewolf

"YOU'VE got a nice name! I shoved the dry leaves that were scattered intentionally in the entrance of my cave. Almost every day, I get these pieces of rubbish from childish creatures living downtown, such as humans. "Do you know what the name Aurora means?" "Not interested," I plainly stated bago lumabas sa kweba. I roamed my sight to the bushes hoping to see the odd wolf once more. I don't know but its presence felt so familiar. Especially its eyes... If I could just catch it without the annoying Milka freaking out. "Alam mo, your name kinda sounds intimidating when mentioned, weir

  • Curse of the Fallen Deity   Chapter 3: Forthmore Palace

THE noise of busy chariots and buzzing chitchats were breaking my eardrums as I passed through the crowd. What a flirty man."Where are we heading to?" I asked. Yeah, that was stupid of me to go with him without any single idea where he's taking me or where I'll be staying. Masyado akong nagtitiwala sa lalaking 'to."At Gloysh Place. It's an inn not so far from here. I'll explain everything to you when we get there," Genesis replied and winked at me.I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms. "Stop flirting."Natawa ito at hinila ako palayo sa maraming tao. "It's not flirting. I'm just being friendly."

  • Curse of the Fallen Deity   Chapter 4: Arrival

PEOPLE and danger don't go together, do they? But it's inevitable. I never thought my questions would be answered this early. Danger has found me, but the thing is — I must turn danger into opportunity.Seeing him wearing the crown, gaining respect from people, living the abundant life everyone wishes for, makes me wanna curse him to death. How dare he live a life in spite of the horror and traumas he inflicted to an innocent child."Are you alright?""Yeah. He's quite intimidating, isn't he?" Intimidating, huh? I was never intimidated, and never will. He's just acting mighty because of the throne, pero walang bagay na nakakatakot sa kanya. Why would

  • Curse of the Fallen Deity   Chapter 5: Duel of the Supremes

"Even death bows down to me.""What --- Are you threatening me!?" tanong nito habang nakakunot ang noo sa galit. Such a hot-tempered man.Bahagya akong umatras at napangisi. "Are you threatened?"Umayos siya ng tayo at sinamaan ako ng tingin. "Who do you think you are?""You already did a background check on me. If I knew that this is what I'll be facing, I shouldn't have wasted my time. I grunt as my eyes darted at the two violet badges on his chest.

  • Curse of the Fallen Deity   Chapter 6: The Arcane Tower

"I am Ara's friend! Ako na niyan!" "Get your nose away, Shaye. Napapikit ako at napabuntong hininga bago huminto at nilingon sila. "Can you two shut up?" asik ko na halos magkasalubong na ang kilay sa inis. For hell's sake, they have been arguing for almost a decade! "But I was the one who brought Ara here. Therefore, she's my responsibility." "I'm no one's respons

  • Curse of the Fallen Deity   Chapter 7: Midnight Encounter

ANOTHER day has gone by and as usual, the tower is as boring as ever. I feel like I'm being imprisoned in a sense of endless peace. Peace is not the best thing for me, and will never be. I prefer being chaotic. Chaos means death, and death... is my expertise.Nakakabagot na magmukmok sa kwarto araw-araw. It has been three days and geez, my hands are itching to do things! Things that mages aren't allowed to do.I have been toured around the whole campus and Shaye was the one who accompanied me. It was my request, for I don't like Caelum's presence. He's too conceited just because he's the head council and the king's nephew! As Shaye said, classes will start three days from now. That means, sooner, I'll be sitting in my assigned seat, listening to some typically boring discussion.I let out a huge sigh. My eyes loc

  • Curse of the Fallen Deity   Chapter 8: Training Master

A blinding light greeted me as I opened my eyes. Seemingly whirls of visible wind crossed on my forehead, leaving my vision fuzzy. After doing what's need to be done, walang emosyon kong tinahak ang kusina. "You're here," bungad sa 'kin ng mayabang na head council at masama akong tinignan. I rolled my eyes. "Obviously." "Good morning, Ara! How's my girl's sleep?" Mabilis kong hinila at inikot ang braso ni Genesis bago pa man niya ako maakbayan. He screamed in pain but I was taken aback when he turned and pulled me closer. Fuck this flirty man! "Yuck, Genesis! Get a room!" matinis na sigaw ng boses na hindi pamilyar sa akin. I quickly pulled myself off Genesis' grip and glanced at the wom

  • Curse of the Fallen Deity   Chapter 31: Interrogation

My breathing was as heavy as my footsteps. That khaki dress that she wore the day we first met at that forest. I cannot be wrong. I immediately came in and saw Demi lying on her back at the third bed. Her eyes went on me while I walked towards her. Her hair was a mess and her leg, which I believe was the one I twisted, was wrapped in bandage."Doesn't it seem strange for the Supreme Student to visit me in this stupid place?" she asked, rolling her eyes on me. "What? "No. I have something in my hand that I believe is yours." Her forehead creased. Bumaba ang tingin niya sa kamay ko. Bu

  • Curse of the Fallen Deity   Chapter 30: The Photograph

I let out an exasperated sigh and sat down on my bed. They're already well aware of their capabilities. The only thing that they lack is practice and mastery. It's almost time. Time when the two moons meet. Napapikit na lamang ako sa inis. I kind of regret that I accepted too much responsibilities in this school. Kung tutuusin, walang wala ito sa plano ko.I opened my eyes when there was a sudden knock. Probably Shaye. My eyebrows raised when it wasn't Shaye's face who greeted me. "Why are you here?" masungit kong tanong kay Carwell."Everyone's still asleep. It's almost dinner time," tipid niyang sagot.Kinunutan ko siya ng noo. "And?"Binuka niya ang bibig niya at nagsalit

  • Curse of the Fallen Deity   Chapter 29: A Jewel's Blood

"WHERE are we going?" Carwell asked. I looked at his bruised palm before looking in his eyes. "To Boris." "For what?""Well, Mr. Carwell, you need help," sambit ko at binigyan siya ng sarkastikong ngiti. "Kailangan mong magamit ng maayos ang kapangyarihan mo sa lalong madaling panahon dahil makakapatay ka niyan ng wala sa oras, or worst, baka ikamatay mo pa."He grunted. "That's unnecessary. I can train alone."Huminto ako sa paglakad at humarap sa kaniya. "Training alone is useless if you always believe that you're already great, Carwell. But I couldn't care less. Ilang minuto lang ay

  • Curse of the Fallen Deity   Chapter 28: Fire and Water

IT'S absurd to think that Genesis could be Paris. I know it is beyond impossible. After all, he's a Mortis and looks like a male version of me, while Genesis is the headmaster's nephew. Have you gone mad, Ara? Genesis is Genesis. And Paris is Paris, the ruthless and selfish twin brother I never asked for. Magkaiba sila kaya gumising ka, Ara. Besides, what happens if my hunch is right? As usual. "Puyat kamo," singit naman ni Shaye. "Mukha ka ng panda, Ara." At sabay silang humalakhak.

  • Curse of the Fallen Deity   Chapter 27: The Legend of the Guardians

DAYS passed like it normally does in the academy. It has been a week after our unexpected mission and everything is back to normal now. The majority of the poisoned people were saved, thanks to Mallá. But I'm pretty sure the massive amount of antidotes affected her body, not just her power. For seven days, the academy was silent and all peaceful. I supposed the students and faculty staffs were all oriented to not mention even a tiny detail about the incident, which I understand. Mahirap mag-imbestiga kung maraming bibig ang nakikisawsaw. And finally, for the first time, I received my Dim card, where my earnings from my past missions were transferred in to. Boris gave it to me kasi baka raw ay naiinip na ako.

  • Curse of the Fallen Deity   Chapter 26: The Return

THE key to tame a dragon is to find its weakness, to learn from it and use it. That was what I thought I would stand with for the rest of my life. There was no room for sympathy in me, and perhaps that's because I never received any of that from everyone I tried to love. I lived for years and years thinking that nothing is ever good in life. And I believed that. But I cannot deny it from myself that this world is starting to prove that my belief was wrong. This isn't me anymore. Like he could see me behind the ve

  • Curse of the Fallen Deity   Chapter 25: The Deal

"WHAT the fuck?" gulat kong bulalas.Tumawa lamang ang hari sa reaksyon ko. Naglakad siya at nilampasan ako saka lumabas na sa silid pero bago iyon ay may pahabol pa siya, "Think about it, my lady. Go back with nothing but disappointment or be my queen and save what needs to be saved." Wala silang pinagkaiba ni Genesis."It depends on my response," sagot ko. It seemed like he did not expect my answer. Masyado ba siyang kumbinsido na tatanggihan talaga ako ng tuluyan ng hari?"That's new," usal niya. Tumayo siya at kunot-noong tumingin sa 'kin. "What was the deal? Kung hindi ka niya tinanggihan, siguradong m

  • Curse of the Fallen Deity   Chapter 24: The King of Ambergail

"ARE we already in Ambergail?" I asked Carwell beside me. His eyes were busy looking around but he nodded. "This is a part of Ambergail but the palace is in the south." He turned his gaze on me. "If you want to rest for the night, there's an inn nearby.""No," I immediately responded. "We promised to go back before the sun rises."Pinanliitan niya ako ng mata. "You promised."He, then, continued to look around. Napabuntong hininga na lang ako. Time is against us in this quest. We've been walking for hours already. I hate to admit but I wouldn't get this far without this arrogant guy's help. Especially the Great Bridge. I thought it was really invisible, I couldn't even use my power. It turned out I was under an illusion the moment I stepped foot on the bridge, ju

  • Curse of the Fallen Deity   Chapter 23: Poison

"DO you think she's awake?""Yeah, she's listening," boses ng isang lalaki. "Morning, Belacour."Napabalikwas ako ng bangon. What the hell? Anong ginagawa ng mayabang na 'to sa kwarto ko?!I glared at Carwell. He was smirking as he stroke Atya's hair. Nakakadiring tingnan. "Wala ka bang sariling kwarto?""Mayro'n," sagot niya. "I'm only here to tell you that the healer arrived earlier. I've been waiting for you to wake up five minutes ago.""Bakit ba 'di niyo na lang ako ginising? At bakit kailangan mo pang mag-stay rito? May dalaw
