A dangerous gleam flashed in Nathaniel's eyes as he narrowed them in thought.

He had underestimated Nikita's loyalty to Mason. She even went so far as to pitch business deals to potential clients on Mason's behalf. She was more of a girlfriend than a designer at this point.

The air around Nathaniel grew cold as a stormy look passed over his face. At that moment, Regina knocked on the door and entered, urging, "Come on, Nathaniel, we have to go!"

Regina hadn't been invited to the party tonight, but she pestered Nathaniel into bringing her, claiming she wanted to see what these fancy events were like.

He caved. It wasn't as if he planned to look for a better plus-one than Regina, anyway. But if Nikita were here, he might have been inclined to take her instead.
