Sirens were blaring and the sound of people screaming, everything was just a ringing in her ear as she witnessed the paramedics carry away her dead parents. She had been sleeping with her sister when it all had happened, the sound of the first gun shot had woken Willow up while Sarah slept under the influence of the pills she had stolen from her mom's stash.
Willow's crying had woken her up; Sarah could barely pull herself up when the police burst into their house the moment another shot rang in the house and Sarah found herself being pushed to the ground by the officers as they rushed to take over the scene. It was as if her world had fallen on her shoulders, her half awake brain was screaming at her to wake up but before she could get herself together someone had wrapped their arms around her frame to pull her out of the way of the stretcher.
Her lips had dried at the sight of the people who gave birth to her being carried away, her heart had picked up its pace the moment she realized they were taking her father away. She gulped turning willows face away from the sight of fathers open eyes and bleeding face, their mother had really left no stone unturned to torture him, this time though. It was too much.
Her face had paled and by the time her mind had come to consciousness, she couldn't hold her tears. She vaguely remembered her grandmother and papa holding them up to keep them sane but the pain of losing her parents all at once was maybe too much to deal with.
A shiver ran down her spine as she pictured willows loud crying and how bad she was hiccuping, her face was red and she was sweating profusely. That's what she could think of before her brain shut off and she found herself waking up after three days. The funeral had been done and her grandparents had taken care of all that had been going on. The news was full of her parents' names and video clips of them crying.
Sarah often wondered why her mother was the way that she was. Always on the edge and out for vengeance against her father, he wasn't a saint for forcing her to have kids with but he took good care of them. Sarah wanted to hate her mother for taking away her only supporter from her but she kind of understood her statement as well, but then as she looked down at the wooden counter of the furniture shop she ad brought the old furniture to sell, she couldn't help but wonder why didn't she at least feel sympathy for them?
At Least a human being can feel bad for another, ignore them the most if they can because all Sarah could remember was the fact that their dad was always there for them, he did everything for them and when she had her first break up he was there to help her out of that phase as well. He was there for all her firsts and her mother had only one thing to say to her.
“I didn't ask to be a part of this. Now get out of my face and die while you still can”
“I wish i had killed you and your pathetic excuse of a father when i had the chance”
“You're the child I didn't ask for, you're a loser just like your father. A pathetic burden on me.”
Seven year old Sarah wasn't happy about any of those things but when Willow came into this world Sarah made sure to protect her like her father protected her. He took the yelling, the breaking things and even the occasional beatings for their sake since mom refused to divorce him after things got twisted.
She never fully understood why dad never took action against her and as sarah grew up she realized that even if he had no one would have believed him, she had seen it with her own two eyes how her mother had faked injuries and turned the situation around to make her father become the bad guy and had et with her parents for several days. He felt embarrassed to admit that he was being abused by his wife, maybe it was his ego that made him feel weak admitting that he was the one getting abused and not the other way around. But even that didn't make any sense to her.
At the end of the day they both were dead, mom had taken her revenge from dad for making her have kids and dad died for the sins of his ego. No one was an angel and no one had reasons for what had happened to them.
Her grandmother blamed the bad spirits for how her parents were but what were these bad spirits? The stars? Their poorly matched zodiac signs? Whatever it may have been, Sarah still couldn't understand why she still thought her father was much better at caring for them than her mother.
A long sigh escaped her lips as she walked along the road to her destination, the furniture store had given quite the amount for her grandma's vintage sofas that had been waiting to meet their death. Sarah skipped on her toes happily watching the sky slowly become a dark shade of amber just as she had liked, there was content in her heart after all she had gone through, this moment right here was her happiness.
Moving to the town where her roots lie was maybe a good decision made for both the sisters, her family had been the only family of nurses in the town. Healers. That's what her grandmother called herself and their papa. There was no doubt that her grandparents were not just any people, her bloodline had been in service of the town leaders and the kings from even before the partition of the kingdom.
There was something about the way people always stared at her grandparents and even her from time to time. There were alot of things that Sarah never understood. Maybe she just wasn't curious enough to learn about any of them.
The night had only begun when the sound of wolves howling aroused under the light of the full moon, the loud howling rose from deep within the forest near the edge of town where the leader lived, the thick trees concealed the other part of human reality of another kind existing with them. A nurse will be here soon.”After hours of keeping willow under observation the doctor finally gave his verdict. “There's no such sign that might help us diagnose what's wrong with her, has everything been okay in your life?” the old man asked as they settled down in his office. “We moved houses” Sarah informed him and he nodded. “Maybe the change is a bit drastic for her, stress maybe. We'll keep her here till she's good to go home” he said, making Sarah nod her he
