[Axel]

“Intruders, Alpha! We need you here!” There was a warning through mind link that put my whole body on alert.

“Location?” I asked as I signaled Beta Tanner, my best friend, to quickly follow me. We rushed out of the packhouse.

Getting surprise attacks was nothing new in my life as an Alpha of Scarlett Sky Pack. Many Rogues live not far from the perimeter of the territory of the pack of werewolves that I lead. They were thirsting for shelter, food, and of course, power.

We had always managed to keep our border with the various traps we set up carefully around this area. In addition, I made that CCTV was installed at every point in the blind spots so that no intruder could easily enter. There was only a dense forest around us. So, apart from those who were werewolves, no one would know about this place, especially humans.

“They’re everywhere, Alpha.” That report moved my feet faster towards one of the guard posts. It was raining heavily, but that didn’t reduce my visibility or smell.

As the pain hit my head and chest, my feet stopped abruptly. The sadness crept into my guts as one of my warriors died. I saw that Tanner felt the same way. He looked at me with reddened eyes burning with anger. This attack was no joke.

“Status,” I growled. My feet were getting faster even though I was still in my human form, one of the advantages of being an Alpha.

“Four guard posts down! We’re under siege, Alpha! There are so many of them,” answered one of my warriors in a trembling voice.

They were werewolves with special powers and excellent martial arts skills who undergo strenuous training every day once their wolves were born. My soldiers trembled. They had never been afraid of anything or anyone before.

“All warriors spread out at four borders now and kill all enemies without mercy.” I gave orders through our mind link. The pain was getting worse. Who managed to break into our territory and have such great power? Why did my warriors fall one by one easily?

My pack might not be the largest in North Kingdom, but we were the second largest. There were six hundred wolves with trained innumerable warriors to handle all kinds of enemy attacks. Rogues were not a match for them. It was easy to take down any number of enemies.

This attack was not coming from an ordinary pack of Rogues. It was an attack from werewolves of another pack. But why? I didn’t hurt any wolf or have any enemies either. The eight packs all over the continent agreed to live in peace. Then, who broke the peace treaty and invaded my territory?

I didn’t feel the presence of any other creature besides werewolves. This situation was so weird. Why do my warriors die effortlessly? I could not allow this. I would not let anyone who attacked us escape without any punishment.

“Axel, I’m going to the north tower,” Tanner said through mind link.

I nodded at him and ran to the east tower. Fighting roars rang out, the smell of blood started to get stronger, and the scene in front of me left me in disbelief. There were hundreds of werewolves fighting with my men.

“Rory!” I called her through mind link.

“Axel,” she answered right away.

“Take all the women and children who cannot fight to the shelter. Make sure you bring enough food, clothes, and supplies to survive for a few days,” I ordered.

“I did, Axel,” she said in a different tone. Was she okay?

Unfortunately,  I had not had time to continue our conversation as a werewolf approached and tried to hit my neck with his claws. I dodged it easily.

When he tried to strike me a second time, I blocked his hand with one hand and pulled it away with my free hand. My claws popped out at my command, then I aimed at his heart. My warriors died, so I no longer gave them mercy. I pulled his heart out. In that instant, he died.

All the enemies who tried to touch me got the same blow. If not the heart that I pulled out, it was their heads that I ripped off their bodies. I tried to ignore the pain caused by my fallen people. It hurt like hell, but I managed to kill as many enemies as I could.

“Axel, there are too many of them. Go! Save yourself and take some of our men with you. Don’t die in vain with us,” Tanner mind-linked.

“No. I will fight with all of you to the death.” Two werewolves down.

“This is not the time to be stubborn, Alpha. Go save yourself!” Tanner insisted.

I ignored his crazy request. When almost everyone said the same thing, I asked them to be quiet by using my authority as their Alpha. Then the communication through the mind link turned silent.

“We fight together, we die together. Brace yourselves, all of you,” I said firmly. “I want to say this to those of you who have faithfully come with me. I’m proud to fight till the end with you. Now, let’s kill as many of them as we can.”

It was a deafening silent after I finished my words. They might be busy fighting with the enemy. That was my thought until they answered with renewed vigor, “Okay, Alpha!”

I knew that we would lose. There were too many of them but I shouldn’t lose hope now. My people trusted their lives on me.

“Mother, Father ….” I called them. Maybe this would be our last conversation.

“We understand, Son. Know this, I’m proud of you. You are the best Alpha I have ever known. You don’t abandon your people,” said Dad through mind link.

“I am proud to be your mother, Axel. Hopefully, the Moon Goddess will reunite us in a different world,” said Mother in a sobbing voice.

“Rory …,” I knew my death was coming, and she was the last person I wanted to talk to before death separated us forever.

She was my mate. We just met last week. My Alpha best friend invited me to an event in his pack. In an instant, we fell in love at first conversation and bonded with each other. Our wedding and union ceremony was supposed to take place on the weekend. But it seemed like it would never happen.

“Axel,” she replied.

“I’m delighted to have met you. Even though our time together was brief, this one week was the best week of my life. If only I could tell you this directly.” I killed another enemy by slashing his neck with my claws. He fell, then I smelled the delicious aroma of roses mixed with pleasant honey.

“You can tell me directly.” Rory stood in front of me. I smiled at her, then something from her right caught my attention.

Alpha Devon of the Blood River Pack walked to my mate. He spread his devilish smile as he wrapped his arms around her waist. Ryder, my wolf, growled in anger, seeing another werewolf acting as our mate was his.

“Rory? What is this?” I asked, seeing she didn’t take Devon’s hand off her body. She even looked comfortable with the touch.

“I, Rory Martin, hereby reject Axel Blackwood, the Alpha of the Scarlet Sky Pack, as my mate and Alpha. From now on, I also refuse to be a part of the Scarlett Sky Pack.”

The second she rejected me as her destined mate, an unbearable pain assaulted my body. It hurt so much that I fell to my knees on the ground until my head hit the wet grass. My mate rejected me? Why?

Ryder, my wolf, howled in pain at the loss of his precious mate. The one he had been waiting for for the past two years. His wound doubled my pain.

For the next few seconds, I felt a firm grip on the shaft of my neck. The hand forced me to lift my head, and a punch slammed at my upper abdomen. All the muscles in my body protested from the excruciating pain. I hadn’t fully recovered from the effects of rejection, so I hardly avoided the blow.

The next punch was aimed at my heart, sending stars in my head. He punched me so hard in the jaw that I bounced back. I fell with my chest hitting the ground after spinning in the air because of that vigorous blow. Just a little farther, I would fall into the river.

The pain intensified when I learned that Tanner had died, my warriors followed, and no one had responded to my mind link. All those who have entrusted their lives and loyalty to me had died.

I raised my head and saw Rory standing next to Devon. They enjoyed the sight before them, seeing the last people who were still fighting for their lives and honor. My body started to recover quickly. But not fast enough to get me out of here alive. I knew that they would torture me to death. That was why Devon didn’t kill me right away.

“I, Axel Blackwood, Alpha of Scarlet Sky Pack, hereby accept your rejection. Goodbye, Rory Martin.” I was quite satisfied to see Rory feel the same pain as I did.

She fell to the ground and winced in pain. She could reject me and pretend to feel nothing but not her wolf. May Moon Goddess take her wolf’s soul for betraying me and my pack.

“Bastard! How dare you hurt my Rory!!” Driven by anger, Devon came closer, then kicked me with all his might right in the chest.

My body was thrown quite far. He kicked me again. This time, I fell into the river. The heavy flow of water in the stream caused by the rain carried me away quickly. My body repeatedly hit the river rocks. Death could take my soul as I exhaled my last breath.

[Cora] “I can’t believe this. You haven’t gotten dressed yet?” screamed my mother, who suddenly opened the door to my room. “Relax, Mom. It only took me less than five minutes to get ready.” I zipped up my red dress. The skirt fell on my knees. This dress shaped my curves perfectly, just like my mother wanted. “How can I calm down? This is the sixth time you have gone to the matchmaking event held once a year in this kingdom. We’ve been to the same event five times, but you always come home mateless.” Mom helped braid my hair, then pinned the ends. “If this year you are lucky and you finally meet him, do you think he will be your age? He must be younger. Men don’t like to see women who can’t take good care of themselves. He may reject you even though the mate bond is difficult to break. We don’t want that to have happened, do we?” She took a step back after helping to apply lipstick on my lips and blush-on on my face. Her eyes looked satisfied with her work. “I hope that Moon God

“Don’t worry, Mom.” I hugged her, trying to comfort her. “We will protect you. I believe Maddox is doing his best to find a way to increase our defense. No pack can easily destroy us.” “You won’t protect me. You will meet your mate today.” Mom pinches my chin with affection. “Well then, I’ll force him to ignore the tradition and stay with us,” I joked. “No!!!” Dad, Mom, and Garrett shouted in unison. I looked at them in surprise. “What? Are you guys so impatient to kick me out of the house? Is that why you’re so hopeful I’ll meet my mate today?” I asked, pretending to be angry. Mom’s mood changed for the better. She was no longer thinking about our intense conversation. Dad and Garrett shared the jokes they had. So, the rest of our trip was full of laughter. Even that annoying Tyra was giggling. “OK. We have arrived.” Garrett stopped the car in the available parking space. “I’m sure you will discuss that matter later at royal dinner. As expected, I was the one standing still on the ground as no one came to get me. I would spend this year alone again. Of course, with the more intense bullying from my sister-in-law and her best friend. The committee asked us to return to our families. Dad and Mom looked at me with sympathy on their faces. I could only be a daughter that brings them ashamed. I was raised by Beta. Unfortunately, my fate was worse than an Omega, the lowest class in the werewolf pack. Most of the Omegas in our pack had found their mates. Not all of them met their destined mates who came from the Goddess. Some chose their own ones and completed the mating and marking rituals. I could not choose my own mate as Lou would not let me do that. She hoped that we would meet our destined one. She had been waiting this long, so she did not want to give up yet. “You will find him. He’s somewhere out there looking for a chance to meet you,” Mom said as she hugged me tightly. I held myself back from crying. “Let

Before I could turn around, something powerful slammed into my body. Fortunately, I was fast enough to grip it and throw it away from me. A familiar laugh echoed in the forest. I looked at the attacker with a sneer. He needed to change his trick because it was boring and predictable. He stood up straight and got in a position ready to attack. His mouth formed a grin. Other wolves might be scared to see that, but not me. I had never even bowed to him, let alone flinched against him. “Why are you standing still? Come and get me!” I challenged. With a stomp of a foot, he ran over. I prepared to tackle his blow. His right hand clenched into a hard fist and launched toward my face. A few inches before he could reach my cheek, I dodged. Suddenly, he shifted and increased his movement speed significantly compared to mine. Cheater! I couldn’t transform that fast. While dodging strike after strike, I looked for an opening to distance myself. ‘Now!’ Lou commanded as I saw the chance to esca

Lou ran so fast to the riverbank. It was as if something enormous was controlling her. My heart was beating rapidly the closer we got to the river. It couldn’t be right. Even if she was powerful, she couldn’t face the intruder alone. ‘Lou, we need to call someone. We can’t face the enemy alone!’ I warned her. ‘There!’ She said. I could feel she was worried about something. She ran towards the thing on the riverbank. I saw it as soon as I passed the rock blocking my view. A man was lying there in torn clothes. I quickly approached, noticing his heart beating weaker and weaker. I noticed his chest rising and falling, signaling he was still alive. The delicious scent I had inhaled earlier was getting stronger as if coming from his body. Who was he? How did he get here? Judging from the bluish color of his skin, he must have been drifting for days. ‘Mate!’ Lou shouted. What? ‘Mate! He’s our mate!’ Oh, Goddess! He’s our mate? I touched his cheek, and something weird ran through my vei

Maddox and Garrett stood side by side when I arrived in front of the ICU room. Garrett shook his head slowly, telling me he couldn't help me this time. Maddox looked at me coldly, expressionlessly. I was like a puppy caught biting his mom's favorite couch and ready to be punished. “You found him last night,” Maddox said. It was a statement, not a question. “Yes, Alpha,” I replied politely. I knew this wasn’t the time to act like a friend. So, I called him by his title. “Then what’s the reason you didn’t report this to me as soon as possible?” he demanded. I glanced at Garrett. He just looked at me blankly. “I’m sorry, it haven’t cross my mind. We’ve almost lost him, so-” “We?” he cut off. “Lou and I. He was dying and died suddenly. So, I gave him a CPR to help. I thought about calling Luke because he could help us. I didn’t think to report this to you immediately. Aspen entered the room with a bright red face. I didn't know what she was angry about. Although she quickly put her face to a neutral expression, I already saw it. Could it be that she was upset about the fact that I found my partner? A Luna should not overhear conversations, let alone interrupt others. But I chose to remain silent and not protest her disrespectful act. Luke bowed respectfully to her while I just stared at her fearlessly. “Why are you silent? Answer me!” she demanded. “We have a guest of honor, so you shouldn’t spread unverifiable news. This man is no ordinary person. He’s an Alpha that the whole world is paying attention to.” I almost rolled my eyes at that because she was the one who liked to gossip and spread it. I didn’t say anything about Alpha Axel being my mate. Luke and the nurses deduced it themselves because they witnessed him kissing me. “We don’t gossip, Luna,” Luke said politely, he glanced at me. “Cora and Alpha Axel are mates. [Axel] The messenger Father sent did not say the reason for summoning us to the palace. But hearing the word immediately, I knew I had to get the news directly from his mouth. I didn't hear any bad news from any pack. The disputing Alphas promised to resolve their issues peacefully. The journey seemed too long because I couldn't wait to reach the palace. Cora was silent, busy with her thoughts. She must have been thinking the same thing as me, guessing why Father had urged us to come and see him. The King and Queen not welcoming us in front of the palace. It was the first alarming sign. The bodyguard invited me to follow him to Father's study. Cora and I followed him. Arriving on the second floor, he approached the large door and opened it for us. "Ah, welcome, Elric, Cora," Father greeted. "Thank you, Father," I

I was pounding in anticipation of our meeting with them while Axel remained calm. His heart was beating regularly, and his breathing was steady. Unlike me, who repeatedly let out a long sigh. Axel held my hand, breaking my reverie. “Don’t worry about our new place. They’ll accept us well.” “I kind of doubt that,” I admitted. “What if someone wants to avenge Devon by hurting us or even our children?” “Devon is not an Alpha to look up to, Baby. I couldn’t sleep that night after talking to the King. The duty of leading this country was nothing compared to the special responsibility he gave me. I didn’t expect that the solution he had in mind would involve me. His offer for my foster parents to live in the capital made sense. I could lead with peace of mind if they were in a safe place, unreachable by my old or new enemies. My coronation as crown prince would cause turmoil in the witch community. But if all werewolves and royal lycans were united, they couldn’t divide us. The strength of all of us was enough to fight back if they rebelled in the future. That was why they were looking for someone like Devon to ruin the peace between us. To ease my mind, I let Ryder go for a morning run in the forest near the palace.
