“Did you kill her? What did you do to her body? Did you bury her, take her out to the forest?” I needed to know.

He studies me with his grey eyes. It had been hours since I had walked away from him and Lola. I had taken refuge in his bedroom. Hoping that he would come and find me when he was done.

Rex hadn’t even fully made it into the room before I started firing questions at him.

“Lola is alive.”

He pulls his shirt off, making his way across the room. He seemed annoyed. His brow crinkled up almost into a frown, but not quite.

“You let her live?”

“I considered killing her. Right up until you said she was family.” The bed sinks as he sits down, facing me. “You have never called anyone ;’family’. You care about her more than you let on.”

He beckons me to him.

As I stand in front of him, his hands hold on to my hips.

“And then I thought about killing her again.”

“Okay…..Why?”

“She gave the blade to Nate.”

I must have tensed because his grip on my hips tightens.
