Three times I check on her before Lola corners me. I was surprised she waited so long.

“You shouldn’t be here!” I growl as she forces herself into my office.

“I want to see her.”

“She’s sleeping. Now I suggest you go and do what ever it is you are doing.”

“Why won’t you let me see her?”

“She’s resting. She needs it. People don’t just get over being poisoned.”

“What did that woman do to her?” She demands, folding her arms up over her chest. Her eyes narrow to slits. “Did she hurt her?”

“As I have already told you, Rosa saved her life. Elsa would be dead right now if it wasn't for Rosa.”

“But she isn’t a doctor. I’ve seen her around, picking plants, plucking fruit from trees. She ignores everyone.”

“You and I see things very differently, Lola. But if you must know, Rosa has been a part of this family for a very long time. And I will not tolerate anyone talking about her like this.”

She closes her mouth, her dark eyes on me.

“Fine, please just let me see her.”
