“Be careful!” I cried as I scurried toward the maid, who was on the verge of falling down the stairs.
Fortunately, I reached her in time. She looked up at me with wide, startled eyes. "Thank you so much, Miss. You are so kind,” she said, bowing deeply.
Pleased, I smiled warmly. “Of course. You’re all like family to me.”
“Miss Flora,” called a house servant as she hurried over, holding my phone. “It’s Kayla. She's been trying to reach you.”
I accepted the phone and barely got it to my ear before Kayla’s voice burst through the line. “Where have you been? I’ve been calling forever!”
“Sorry. I’ve been busy overseeing the decorations and everything else for tonight’s celebration.”
I was supervising the preparations for the ceremony marking the return of my fiancé, Zack Larkin, the fiercest warrior in the East Hallow Pack. Though my father was the alpha of our pack, Zack had contributed the most to its success. He made me so proud; I couldn't begin to express how much I loved him.
“Oh, come on, Flora,” Kayla said. “It’s just Zack coming back from the border. It’s not like it’s the alpha king.”
I froze mid-step. “The alpha king?” I asked, my brow furrowed. Why would she be mentioning the alpha king?
“Yeah! Guess what? Word is, he’s coming to visit our pack soon.”
Aron Elton, the alpha of all alphas, ruler over countless realms, was coming to visit our pack?
“They say he’s incredibly attractive,” Kayla added in a singsong voice. “The dreamiest of dreamy men will be here! Can you imagine?”
Dreamy? Maybe. Ruthless? Definitely. The stories were legendary.
After a few more words of excitement from her, we ended the call, and I got back to the preparations, while thinking about the news she’d conveyed.
My loyalty was to Zack, so other men, no matter how dreamy, didn’t interest me. I also didn’t understand why so many women seemed to fall for this alpha king, considering his reputation for cruelty.
Regardless, I had never met him, and frankly, I didn’t care to. Why would I want to bother when I already had the man of my dreams, a man I’d fallen for at first sight? At the time, I was sixteen; he was nineteen. Now, I couldn’t believe how quickly three years had flown by. Perhaps people lose track of time when they’re in love?
We weren’t fated mates, but we didn’t care about the mate bond. We had chosen each other and, before he departed, Zack left me with a promise that echoed in my heart. “When I get back, I’ll give you the biggest wedding.”
That was three months ago, and it was the longest we’d ever been apart. My father had sent him to deal with rebel rogues at the border, but not before he approved our engagement. As the pack’s Beta, Zack had fulfilled his duty with honor, and now, he was finally coming home.
“Flora.” One of the older maids caught my attention. “You’d better go and get ready,” she said with a warm smile, while tapping her wrist.
I nodded and headed to my bedroom suite. After a shower, I approached the gown I had chosen for the evening. As I was about to touch it, footsteps sounded outside my room. I assumed it was Milani, my lady’s maid, who would no doubt urge me to hurry.
As she entered, I smiled. “I’ll change in a minute. Stop rushing me.”
But Milani wasn’t wearing her usual smile. Her face was flushed, her expression tense.
I frowned, turning to face her fully. “What’s wrong?”
She hesitated, then bowed her head. “Miss... Zack is waiting for you in the lobby of the packhouse.”
“Zack is back?” I breathed, excitement bubbling within me.
I was about to change when Milani interrupted again. “Miss...”
Something in her voice made me pause. Her gaze flicked to mine—worried, almost anxious.
“What is it?” I asked, my heart sinking slightly.
She sighed before speaking carefully. “Zack brought a woman with him.”
Her words hit me like a punch to the stomach. My breath caught, and my heart skipped a beat.
“A... woman?” I repeated, my voice barely above a whisper.
Where had this woman come from? And what was her role in his life? “Maybe she’s just a friend,” I muttered, forcing myself to stay calm. Still, I rushed to the lobby, where the sight of Zack with a petite woman nestled in his arms brought me to a screeching halt.
My chest tightened. Please don’t let this be what it looks like.
Zack saw me, his face lighting up with a smile. He approached and took my hands in his. “Flora,” he said gently, “I found your sister.”
I stared at him, stunned. “My... sister?” I wasn’t aware I had one.
I’d been adopted, yes, but my father had never mentioned another child. Nonetheless, as my gaze shifted to him, tears and recognition shone in his eyes.
He approached her with open arms. “I finally found you, my dear,” he said, embracing her tightly.
His joy left me speechless as he turned to me. “Take care of Alora, Flora,” he said, his voice filled with emotion. “She has suffered greatly. We need to make it up to her.”
I nodded, still reeling from the revelation.
Then Alora turned to me, her voice trembling. “Sister, you’re so beautiful and capable. I’m so grateful to be here...”
I was about to comfort her, but Zack’s hands slipped from mine.
I froze as he moved to Alora, pulling her into his arms.
“It’s not your fault,” he murmured, patting her back. “This is your home now.”
I stood there, watching him wipe her tears and offer her soft words of comfort. “Welcome to the East Hallow Pack,” he said warmly.
I took a shaky breath, a sinking feeling in my chest. Something told me my life was about to change.
His words and cold tone broke my heart. He spoke like I was a slave who was under his control. I looked away from him and lowered my head.I remained silent as I did not have anything to say. I was in his realm; I loved him, and he was the man who saved me. Now I had no other option but to listen to him."Okay, Alpha."I got up from the couch and walked toward the door. He spoke from behind, "Where are you going?""In my room," I replied without turning around.I was upset with him, and I expected he would understand my emotions. When I reached for the doorknob, he spoke again. "How did you pay in the coffee shop?"I froze, realizing that I was in debt. I had no money to pay that Lycan boy."I couldn't pay. The cafe's staff said I could pay later."Without looking at him, I could say that there might be a big frown developed between his brows."I will tell my men to pay them back. You don't need to go there again."I was surprised that he did not even want me to go there again. But wh
I sneezed when I got out of the bathroom. I rubbed my nose and took a deep breath. I felt dizzy. It was a cold bath. I blushed when I thought about how Aron helped me in the bath. He said a cold bath was good to remove all the scent that lingers in our body.My cheeks turned red, recalling his hands traced on my body. But we did not have sex."You are sore, and I don't want to hurt you."That's what he said to me in the jacuzzi.I rubbed my head with a white towel and glanced at Aron, who was wearing casual clothes. He went to sit on a couch near the bed. He lit a cigarette and started smoking.I was wearing the white bathrobe he had tossed to me before. It was his size, so it didn't fit my body. I looked down at the bathrobe and noticed it reached my ankle.I smiled. 'I wore his bathrobe."Aron's phone rang on the table. It grabbed my attention. I removed the towel from my head and walked toward him.I noticed Theta Felix's name popped up in the middle of the phone screen. The phone
Aron's hand seemed to freeze around my waist. I looked at him with curiosity in my eyes. His brows furrowed. Whenever he was perplexed or he got angry, his brows furrowed deeply like that."What happened?" I asked. He let go of my waist and looked into my eyes. "Why do you need to do a job?"I gulped when I sensed fury in his tone. "If I want to restart my life here, I have to start with everything. I want to have a good job, a good life where I can—""Am I not giving you a good life?"I shook my head. He misunderstood me. I didn't mean that. I took hold of his hand and said,"You are the Alpha king. You can give me anything I want. But I would like to establish an identity here. I can not be a burden on you."His frown became more intense. "Burden? I am taking on the responsibility of my entire realm. Do you think yours will have an impact on me?” I was stunned. How would I make him understand my point of view?I was about to explain to him again. But he removed my hand from his and
My brows shot up in surprise. I blinked, trying to observe the boy carefully.'He is a Lycan!' I thought. He let out a chuckle as if he had noticed my expression. "You never met a Lycan before, right?"I shook my head. "No.""Don't worry, we don't eat people," he replied with a grin.I nodded my head and muttered, "I will repay your money soon.""Come here again," he said.I left the cafe with a jumbled mind. I met a Lycan today for the first time. I had always heard that they were dangerous. But seeing Fred, I did not think he was dangerous. Even Aron's company's guards looked more dangerous than him.I recall Samuel informing Aron of a meeting with Lycans.'Do Lycans live here in the pack?' I wondered.I walked for a while until the Elton Company came into view. I walked into the company.I noticed everyone gave me strange gazes. They looked mad at me.My steps halted when I saw the reception area was empty. I realized that the employees saw the guards throwing them out of the compa
The café was quiet. The atmosphere was peaceful and soothing. Every table was adorned with small flower tubs. All of the customers appeared to be pleased with the environment.I came here because I noticed that it was a peaceful place. I just wanted to get out of the company.People's judgmental gazes were too much for me. I did not want to be responsible for Aron's punishment of more employees."Excuse me?"I heard a voice from behind. I blinked and shifted my gaze away from the window. The cafe was beside the road, so I was lost in my thoughts.I turned my head to see a boy smiling at me. He wore a brown apron over his white t-shirt, which bore the cafe's name. He was dressed in black pants and a cap. He was young and appeared to be around my age."Hello, Miss," he greeted."Hello.""What would you like to have?"I had been sitting here for the last ten minutes. But I had not placed an order yet.It made me feel embarrassed. I lowered my head and looked for the menu on the table."I
I was shocked. How could he say that? Silver water could really burn anyone.I could not believe Aron could give anyone this kind of punishment. It was ruthless!I looked at him carefully. Was he the same person who had been with me over the last few days?Despite the fact that the women tried to frame me, I felt upset for them. However, the question about Aron's mate remained in my mind. I was confused about why he was with me if he already had a mate. Did he still love her even after they separated? What about the mate bond? How could he possibly resist it?Samuel called the security guard and told them to take them out of the company. He followed them as he would have done what Aaron wanted.I stared at the door until it closed. The loud closing sound caused me to flinch.I felt a cold, chilly air touch my body. My gaze shifted to Aron again, who was also staring at the door. He seemed to be forcing himself not to tell me anything."A-Alpha..." I murmured. He heard me, but he did n
