SEKANI:

I was the first to pick her up from school. Thankfully, I didn't meet Sean there.

It was time for mother and daughter to rebound.

"Mum, where's Dad?" Was the first question Mya asked me the moment she stepped out of the hall.

Really?

I tried not to look too upset as I took her hand and led her across the overgrown lawn. An old man was mowing it so I was rest assured that no one would be getting any snake bites at all.

"He's at work."

She sulked. "He said he was going to pick me up from school today but he's not here. He promised."

"Well, honey," I pulled the car door open, helped her in before crouching in front of her. "Daddy has business to run. He might have wanted to be here but something probably came up. You know how it is with me sometimes, right? I make a promise to be with you but it ends up not happening because I have things to do."

She nodded. "Yes."

"You'll see him soon, okay."

"Will there be a babysitter for me soon?
