"Let's go back." Ren whispered softly in my ear. "No," I immediately whispered back, "No. I can handle it. I'm fine." I promised. I didn't get a response from Ren but he let go of my hands and gave me space. Samael and Adrian stood by Mnia, watching the fight with calculating gazes. They didn't see the bloodshed, the murdering. They saw how their three siblings were fighting. They saw the jumps, the skill, the split second decisions, how far they would go to protect their demons. The sound of crunching glass made me look at Dagon again. And then she was gone. This woman was so quick, the quickest I had ever seen someone move. It was unnatural, even for the demon realm. She was on Megera's back within a split second. She put her finger under his nose and pulled back. The sickening crunch of his nose breaking into his skull was loud. Blood splurged out onto Acteus who was coughing up his own blood on the ground. Megera roared and exploded with anger. Instead of fighting Dagon off, h
We ran for 10 metres... And were suddenly out of the forest. The sun hit my head and I looked up in bewilderment. What the fuck? "What the fuck?!" Aemun screamed my exact thought. I looked back at the forest and the gravel road as I kept running. The town was far away. It was at least a ten minute walk from this point to the town. We... What happened? I would think of that later. I kept running. My legs were burning and turning sour but I ignored the intense pain. Xael must've noticed that my legs were hurting because I was suddenly lifted off the ground and put on his back. "Hold as still as possible." He said over his shoulder as he kept on running. The gates came into view but they were sealed shut. Shit. Adrian would never, ever trust me again. As we ran closer, and I prayed and prayed for them to open, they stayed shut. I didn't dare look back. Didn't dare to maybe see Adrian running or flying towards us. Adrian would first hurt, then ask questions. But I promised Adrian
"Where is the stomach kicking human?!" I suddenly heard someone yell from the hallway. Dagon walked in, her face black and blue, her leg still twisted in a weird way and her arms held by her side. Adrian turned around and looked at her from head to toe. Dagon stopped walking the moment she saw Adrian. "Hi brother. Care to give me a moment alone with your human?" She asked, her voice a lot happier than she looked. "No." Adrian responded, pointing at the door for her to get out. "Come on. Just a tiny second." She tried again. Aemun and Ren slowly stood up from their table. The shower stopped running. "Why do you want a moment with her?" He asked, suspicion lacing his tone. I tensed under the blanket. And mentally begged for Dagon to get out. "What is that?" Adrian suddenly asked. "Nothi-" Dagon started and she took a step back, but Adrian was faster. He grabbed her wrist and snatched my necklace out of her hand. He looked at it for one whole second before turning to me with his fang
Servants were looking at me accusingly. They looked at me like I was the source of their problems. When I opened the castle door, I realised that that might be the case. Rain poured down. You could hardly see. Thunder slammed down from the sky and the sun that had been warming up the crisp day had vanished. I was completely soaked in two seconds. My hoodie was still under the bed and the cold rain slid down my bare arms, dripping on the ground and my yoga pants stuck to my legs. I ran to the stables and ignored everybody around me. Not that I could see much, but I felt eyes on me the entire time. Throwing open the stable door, Asta bucked at the sudden intrusion. It must've been a comical sight. Me, soaking with rain in a tiny shirt, my rage set in rage, my hair wet and sticking to me. Dracula didn't care. He looked at me with wise eyes. I jumped on his back and I rode out. The rain seemed even harder now and it all seemed to be aimed at me. I stuck my middle finger up at the cast
But then the door opened and Adrian strode in, his eyes haunted. He stopped the moment he saw me and scanned me from head to toe. "I thought you'd left." He said, his tone strained. "Yes, come in. Great manners for knocking." Dagon snapped at him. He ignored her and walked into the room further. "I was just out in the forest. With Dracula and Warrior." I responded. Adrian's eyes widened and I saw the carnal fear in his voice. "Without any guards?" He asked. I hesitated. Maybe that was a bit stupid. "Yes.. I'm sorry." I apologised. Adrian strode to me and stood right in front of me. I looked up at him and he looked down at me with dark eyes. His cold hand cupped my cheek. "You can't just do that. I'm sorry for what I said to you, but you can't just leave. It puts me into a state of absolute panic. I had the whole castle looking for you." He calmly said. I swallowed heavily. Running away was always my solution to problems. I wanted to avoid confrontation and wanted time for myself.
I stepped into a pitch black room. Not a sound to be heard. If Dagon wasn't by my side, I would have guessed I had died. "Can you see?" I whispered to Dagon. My own whisper even seemed loud. "No. I can't see a thing." Dagon whispered back. "Weird, actually. I imagine this is what it's like for humans in dark rooms. It... unsettling." Dagon whispered next. We grabbed each other's hands and both took one step forward. I was grabbed the next second. I wanted to react, but my lips sealed shut. And I mean that literally. My lips zipped shut and prevented me from saying anything. Dagon's hand left mine and only a cold, firm hand on my arm remained. I stood still in the icy, damp room. Nothing. There was nothing around me. Even the hand holding me was so still, it could've been a statue. It felt like spiders crawled over my body. A sense of unease, of being watched made me not move a single muscle. Even my head was frozen in place. Minutes ticked by. Minutes seemed very long in a state o
We searched for ten minutes. Ten whole minutes where we searched and threw around everything. Megera kicked over the cabinets in a last attempt and started kicking the cell door again. You could see the steam coming out of his ears. "Guys!" Rana suddenly shouted. We were both with her within a second. She looked up at the underside of the desk. "What has 13 hearts but no other organs?!" She screamed at us. Megera and I looked at each other, and then down at Rana again. "What?!" Megera shouted back, his face full of frustration. "It says here.. There's a sentence written underneath here... It must be a clue." Rana answered, her eyes narrowed on the riddle again. Meanwhile, my brain was working overtime to solve the sentence. 13 hearts... 13 hearts... No other organs... I had my eyes closed tightly and then noticed the silence in my cell. I slowly opened my eyes and looked at Rana and Megera, who looked at me with expectant gazes. They trusted me to solve this. I looked away from t
"Got one!" Rana yelled. She snatched a diamond card with a written '6' on it. "Here!" Megera shouted next as he pulled out a heart card with a written '3' on it. I found the next one, a spades with the number '0' on it. But the last one was nowhere to be found. We turned every single card over. "It's not here. They must've forgotten it!" Rana fearfully said. "HM!" I mumbled, gathering their attention. Both looked at me again and I again tried to signal a deck of cards, which they didn't understand at first. Then I pointed at the ceiling and at Rana's hands. "The box. You're looking for the box!" Rana yelled in excitement. I nodded at her and she pulled the box from underneath her body. She checked it and yes, there it was. On the inside of the box, there was a small '9' written on it. I already had the chest in my hands. "We don't know the order, though." Megera mumbled. I scanned the cards. The inside of the box had a 9, the two diamond with the number 6, the four hearts with the n
