"It was all a scheme I concocted to get you."

A dull thunderclap sounded outside the window. In the light, Eugene's face looked even paler.

Everyone was stunned into silence. It seemed no one had expected such a dramatic turn.

Eugene stumbled backward as if a thought struck him. He suddenly looked up at me, his lips trembling uncontrollably, his face etched with boundless remorse.

The truth was revealed with such ease and drama.

Yet, all I felt was sorrow. Such a foolish and naive trick had inflicted such profound suffering upon me. How tragic and laughable.

I stared at Eugene expressionlessly and asked softly, "Is this the love you tried to get even at the cost of our lives?"

Eugene's face was drained of color instantly. Bowing his head, he shed a tear, asking me gently, "Sherlyn, did it hurt at that time?"

My breath caught. I thought, "Did it hurt? I witnessed my loved ones kneeling, pleading, and dying. And I was betrayed and abused to death by the one I loved. That suffocat
