BEATRICE’S POV
I said no word to him as his car drove on. Being this close to him made the air thicken with tension, and I could barely breathe. He said nothing, but I could feel his eyes on me. My heart thumped against my ribcage, and my fingers trembled.
“You look good today.” He muttered out of the blue, causing me to look at him. His eyes were as beautiful as always.
“Thanks. You too.” I responded, nervousness munching off me. According to the books I had read, giving back compliments like these meant I didn't see myself worthy of it. Nevertheless, I look out the window again. Soon, we arrived at the tall White building, and his car was parked. I watched as his driver held his door open to let him down, then proceeded to do the same for me, and I caught Xander shaking his head.
“We are here.” Xander’s voice pulled me back to reality. He was holding my door open with his left hand stretched towards me. “Hold me.”
Something about the way he said it made me transfixed for a second, but I knew better than to let the devil get near my soul again. Ignoring him, I stepped out.
“Can we get this over with quickly, Mr. Xander? I have something way more important to attend to.”
I caught something flickering in his eyes, but it was gone as fast, replaced with his stillness.
“You leave when I say so, mate.” His voice dropped, and I swallowed a lump of saliva, clutching hard onto my leather bag.
Fuck my hormones for making me find that seductively attractive.
“After you.” He motioned, and I did while he walked closely behind. I could feel his eyes roam all over my back, especially my butt. The hotness also leaves marks on it. Shyly, I turned around, and I was right. He was looking. Probably comparing it with the women he had been with after me. Yes, I had heard a lot of rumours from my coworkers,
His lips flattened for a second, and I shook it off. Soon, we sat opposite one another in a top-five restaurant, yet it felt empty.
Could I tell my kids this was a date? But was it?
‘Our kids,’ The voice in my head reminded me.
“You haven't touched your food.” His voice pierced through my thoughts, and my eyes traced down to see myself holding the fork. It was spaghetti, steak and some other fancy dishes.
“I’m afraid I didn't come here to eat, Mr Xander. We should proceed to business.” I informed and watched him clench his jaw as his hand froze in the air.
“Really, Beatrice? You really can't wait to get rid of me.”
I caught sadness in his eyes for a second, but it was gone again. “I believe this isn't a personal matter, sir. It is purely business, and I would appreciate it if you treat it as such.” I tried to mask my nervousness as I spoke.
Silence hung in the air until his lips curled up again. “Fine. I will have my Beta send my opinions to you. Can we eat now?”
I twitched my lips and forced on the sweetest smile. “Since that will be all, sir. I would love to take my leave. The meal was nice; thanks for this.”
I knew better than to associate with him for too long. Xander was like ink; it would keep spreading if left uncautioned. I stood up, about to leave.
“No one leaves until the meal is over.” His voice is darker now, meaner, and it made me fidget for a second.
“But I have….”
“Miss Beatrice, a business partner is always right, especially one that happens to be your mate.” His face was slightly frowned as he spoke. “I believe you need to do this for your company.”
I let out a scoff. It was obvious I had been a fool for thinking that he would change. That time would have made him a better Lycan and not just a meaner asshole.
“Fine! As your Kingship pleases, but don’t think in your weirdest dream that makes me hate you less.” I snapped at him and started to gulp down the food. My anger builds with each second.
“At least you are here. It doesn't matter if you hate me, Beatrice. I don’t hate you, and I never will, so stop trying.”
His words caught me off guard, and something fluttered in my heart, yet I knew it was probably his usual words to his other women, too.
We said nothing, nothing except the slow, love music that played in the air. The food was good, I had to admit, and soon we were done eating, at least I was.
“Can I leave now?” I let out the second I gulped down my water and watched his eyes linger on me for a while before he wiped his lips clean with the cloth and set it back on the table.
“Yes, we can.”
He paid, and soon we were walking out of the restaurant, my feet hurting from the heels. I despised the idea of it, yet my job demanded it. His car was parked right outside.
“Thank you for the….meal,” I said, and he nodded.
“Let me drop you off.”
“No,” I responded almost immediately and noticed that he caught my intention to get rid of him quickly. The car would get me very soon, and I needed him gone before then. “You can go. I’m waiting for someone.”
His lips twitched, and I could tell that he wanted to say something, but instead, he didn't.
“Goodbye mate.” His voice was so low that I almost felt guilty for treating him this way, but I needed to protect my kids.
I watched as he walked towards his car, and mine pulled up just in time.
“How was it?” Aunt Silvia said the second I stepped into the car. “Do I need to kick his butt? Do I need to find you a new job?”
A fresh rumble of laughter pierced through my throat. “I’m fine. I can handle people like him.” I muttered, yet it felt like I was trying to convince myself instead. His car was still there; his tainted glass was up.
I could have sworn that she noticed my uneasiness, yet she said nothing as she nodded and drove off.
XANDER’S POV
I could have sworn that a man picked her up. That had to be the only explanation for how much she despised me now. I grunted and threw the glass of wine across my study room. It had taken a lot not to whoop her over my shoulder and bring her where she belonged. Home. Here with me.
The door pushed open, and my Beta walked in.
“Yes.” I let out distaste in my voice.
“Are you good, sir?”
“And what would you do if I wasn't?” I threw at him, my rage intensifying. It wasn't as if he could kidnap Beatrice and bring her to me. Could I do that?
“Bring Beatrice to me even if you have to abduct her.”
“Sir….” He stammered. “That isn't legal.”
“And do I look like I care?” I grunted and watched him shake.
“I’m sorry, master. I just thought….” He paused, clearing his throat. “I suggest you try to win her over instead so she doesn't hate you.”
He did have a point.
“Find out who her man is, what he isn't doing for her, what he does for her. And everything about him.” I ordered and watched him nod.
To get her to come back, I needed to take her lover out of the picture. Bribe him. Ruin him. Anything to get my desired result.
“Wait,” I informed before he could open the door and watched him turn around. “Find out where she lives and deliver some flowers to her. Add a note.”
BEATRICE’S POVJust like every other normal day, I got up and got the kids dressed for school. All was going just fine until I opened my front door to find flowers sitting right there. Every single space was occupied by one. Flowers of different colours and kinds.“Oh, Mummy's got an admirer.” My kids' excitement pierced through the air.“Waw! He must like Mummy to bring all of this. It must have taken him all night. It is just like Cinderella and the prince.” Charlotte awned. While I just stood there transfixed. BEATRICE’S POV“Retrieve the document and burn down the damn house!” A voice yelled outside, and the door creaked under the intense banging. The unpredictable slams were both unsettling and nerve-wracking.My hands trembled as I watched Father scurry to hide the brown envelope he held.“Go hide. Now!” He ordered, fear written all over him. But I was just seven. My feet remained frozen, and I let out wails, a piece of my chocolate birthday cake in my palm. “Daddy…”“Go pumpkin. You can't let them find you.” He picked me up, ignoring my wails as he rushed towards the back door. His breathing had gotten so heavy, and the voices from outside sent my fear on a spiral. I was holding onto his shirt as he put me down. “Don’t look back. Run until you get to the end of the world. Don’t let them get you.” “Daddy…” My voice broke. “Can you come with me?” I was scared of the dark. Of the outside world. Even though I was nothing but an Omega, my parents had done everything to protect my innocenc
BEATRICE’S POVI watched as they spoke in hushed tones. I was standing feet away from them, and from the frown on Fred’s face, I could tell he wasn't happy. But I was. I was glad I was finally leaving him and that I would be happy now. My mate patted him on the shoulder and then walked towards me. “Let’s go.” He informed, sending me a warm smile before he grabbed my palm.Peace was what I felt. Or was it pride when we walked amid the maids with their faces full of envy? Or was it their loud gasps? I could have sworn they would have wished to be for a second. It felt so good to experience this straight out of a rom movie feeling. “Get in.” He said and held out the door. Sending him a smile, I did even though I wanted to tell him I reeked and needed a bath. Or that my butt still hurt from the whip. But no, this was my new life now.I clutched onto my dress out of sheer happiness while trying not to scream or giggle as we drove away from the pack. Throughout the journey, he said nothi
BEATRICE’S POV It continued, the act of him making me watch her cum as he thrust into her while my heart ripped into two from the splitting pain. Every single time, my wolf would wail and groan in pain, but that was as much of a conversation as we had. In a few days, I had learned to accept my fate and gotten used to being a maid. A loud slam sent me back to reality, and I met with her brown piercing eyes. The female my mate cherished. “Iron this,” Anna said irritably, placing her silky blue dress on the kitchen counter. “Babe is taking me out in ten minutes.” She rolled her hair with a finger and then proceeded to eye me. “I wonder how he can be mated to someone like you. You look nothing like me, and don’t get your hopes up, and I’m the only one he wants.” All I could do was sigh as I watched her walk away. Tears weighed in my eyes at the thought of how unfortunate I was. I moved towards the iron board and ran the iron over the dress, hoping and wishing that one day, my mate w
BEATRICE’S POVThe morning light hit my face, and the scent of freshness dampened with sex lingered in the air. My head banged hard as I managed to drag myself out of bed. Bed? Silk white bedsheet and the hot naked blonde lying right next to me. I gasped the second it sank in. I had slept with a stranger. Kia was going to kill me. Picking my scattered clothes, I darted out of the room with my heart pounding fast. I knew I was so dead because, by now, Kia would be foaming. My adrenaline increased the second the house came into view. I caught the glances of the other enslaved people and their hushed whispers. I could tell I looked like a mess and probably still smelt like him. Sarah sent me a concerned look the second I stepped in. “He has been calling your names for hours. He is foaming. You need to go see him.”I sighed heavily and sent a nod before proceeding to his room. I cupped my palm and blew into it, and trust me, I stink. He was pacing up and down by the time I stepped in. O
BEATRICE’S POVSeven years had passed. Seven years of working hard to make ends meet and take good care of my babies. Claiming a new identity, a new name, and finding a purpose. This was just a glimpse of what I deserved for what I did to my mate. Even though It had been seven years, I still couldn’t stop blaming myself for showing up in her life. If only I had let her be. If only I never got down from the car the other day. Suppose I had ignored my wolf’s endless pleas to meet her just on my way back from a meeting. But her smell had grasped me, welcoming me as I approached the bar. Yet, with each step I took, I could feel my anger boiling at the thought of another man touching her. This was the seventh glass I was taking, and every single time, her face came back clearly in my mind. Her two-timing yet pretty face. A face that I was going to make shed tears. I lowered my head to see my blood drop on the tiles. The broken glass had penetrated my palm, yet I felt no pain. I had been through worse. Pulling out my phone, I dialed my Beta, and his voice came through in a second.“Get me all the information on her,” I ordered and hung up before he could respond. Wrapping my palm, I headed out of the hotel, straight to one of the bars I had found in town. The whole place was rowdy, with the smell of alcohol and sweat consuming the air. BEATRICE’S POVThe dreadful day that I had long avoided slowly slipped in like a thick fog consuming the sky, and now I knew it was either I faced it head-on or lost my job, and the latter wasn’t an option. I patted my face with the powder foam for the umpteenth time as my heart thumped loudly against my rib cage. It was funny how I had changed my hairstyle into something more elegant, just like my son advised. But what could Xander be up to this time? What was his plan? Did he know about the kids? My hands trembled at the thought, but I straightened out the unseen wrinkles on my Red gown. The choice of colour was the only way to intimidate him, accompanied by my red lipstick. Call me unprofessional, but I wasn't about to let him have the last laugh. The meeting was due in an hour, and the company was forty-five minutes drive from my house. “You don’t have to go if you don’t want to. I can always support you and my grandkids.” Aunt Silvia reminded me the second I got into the sittin
BEATRICE’S POVMy eyes darted around the restaurant as I awaited the arrival of whoever the owner of the message was. Something about wanting to partner with the company: yes, maybe doing this without the knowledge of the boss was absurd, but if it turned out to be a potential client, then I wouldn’t have to put up with the annoying attitude of Xander. All we needed was someone willing to invest in ‘Dreamland’, our company’s new project. I glanced at my watch again. Thirty minutes had passed, yet nothing. I let out a frustrated sigh the second the voice in my head reminded me that it could have been a prank.“HI, Beatrice. We meet again.” The overly familiar voice vibrated in my ears, and I felt my heart flip multiple times. My breathing got stuck the second our eyes met. “Did you miss me?” He laughed dryly. “Kai. What are you doing here?” I was in shock. How was he five hours away from his pack? Why?“Oh, baby. Is that the ‘I miss you’ I get after so long?” He was dressed in a whi
BEATRICE’S POVThe date the night before had been a disaster. It had taken every strength in me not to ditch him and run. Was it the way he kept calling me pumpkin? Or trying to act like we were so much in love. The only reason I had stayed back was because Aunt Silvia made me promise to get through this one date. For the sake of the kids, she had said. However, it came in handy when my worst nightmare decided to stroll through the room like he fucking owned it. Every step he took had my heart pounding because I could tell from the hotness of his gaze on me. It burnt through my skin and threatened to search my soul as well. But above all, I knew he was dangerous, and I knew better than to let myself mingle with him beyond business level. Or to let him know that my babies exist. “How was the date?” Aunt Silvia finally asked as she poured herself a cup of coffee and settled beside me. I had expected the question all day, yet it was late afternoon. I felt something wrong with how she mo
