CHAPTER 93

LENA.

My journey back home was smooth. There were no signs of any dark energy moving around. I'd have felt it. I bumped into one of the Guardians on Patrol and unfortunately for me, it was Derrick, my father's close friend. He was in charge this afternoon and after about two minutes of scolding, he finally let me go.

By the time I wheeled the rickety bike in, I caught sight of my father standing in front of the porch with hands akimbo and even from where I stood, I could feel the weight of his stern look. He was mad at me.

"Shit." I cursed under my breath and continued to wheel the bike in, my brain going overdrive as I tried to find a lie to tell him. Mostly one he wasn't going to find out really fast. Him being angry meant it wouldn't be hard for him to find out my lies.

"Hey, Dad!" I greeted in the chirpiest voice I could muster as I climbed up the porch steps. "You're rarely outside. What's up?"

"I should be asking you what's up, Lena," He said curtly.

CHAPTER 94 LENA. Well, he left and now, I had to deal with my Dad who was already pacing about in my room. "Are you going to tell me what's wrong?" I lay on the bed, typing away at my phone. I'd been sending strings of texts to Damon but had gotten no reply. He was still mad at me. Maybe a call could solve all of this. I just had to make my Dad leave early. "Lena?!" I dumped my phone on the bed and sat up. "Fine. So I was reading through the book. The Pack Witch asked me to uhm, use the book as a guide. It lead me out of the house," "And you didn't care to inform me?" He asked. "You know how dangerous it is out there, right?" "I was really careful, Dad," I groaned in an exasperated tone. "I know it's dangerous out there and I know how much you hammer so much on it. But trust me when I tell you. I had it under control. I was safe." "Still doesn't matter. You were only lucky today. When will you be going?" "Tomorrow," I replied and threw the duvet over my h

CHAPTER 95 LENA. The roads today were filled with cars and pedestrians walking. It hadn't been this way for almost two weeks. For the first time, I felt like I was living in Willow Town. It had been more of Ghost Town since I could remember. I caught a few students in cars. Some were walking in groups and chattering and I could imagine Willow Town safe once again. Without that demon killing people and all of that. No news of anyone dying had come in for the whole of yesterday and if it wasn't relief I felt, then I didn't know what. The more people died, the more guilty I felt for not being capable enough to protect them. We were all headed towards the Town Hall and when my father parked by the side of the large fence, I realized how filled this place was going to be today. "The whole of Willow Town?" "And some delegates," My father said as he killed the engine and stepped out of the car. I followed suit. "People from other Packs are also here." "Why?" I asked

CHAPTER 96 LEAH. I'd been talking with Luke when Trevor joined us. He looked really upset. "What's wrong, Trevor?" Luke asked. "Something happened?" "There's something off about Lena these days," He said and I agreed. "She's been moving differently." "Yeah, you're right." I replied and folded one arm over the other. She was speaking with Dylan and he said something that made her go from laughing to sighing then taking out her phone. I wonder what he had said to make her look that way. Well, I was going to ask him when he finally got here. "There. That fucking bastard." Trevor hissed. It was Damon and he was staring at Lena. I stared at Damon for a long time, wondering why he was looking at her that way. There was something off about them and then they started talking. "What do you think they're talking about?" I asked when Damon finally got to us. He handed us our bottles of water. "As you can see, it's none of my business, Leah. If you want to know, you can

CHAPTER 97 LENA. I stepped away, feeling a blush creep up my cheek as an overwhelming feeling of self-awareness overcame me. Sure, a whole lot of people had seen me kiss Damon— my Dad included. But I couldn't bring my face to look at anyone. I had no idea why. I hated attention so much and Damon had just turned everyone's attention towards us with just this kiss. What had he been thinking when he asked me to kiss him? Had he done this to claim his ownership of me or something because it felt like it. "The announcements have begun," Damon whispered beside me but he didn't take my hand. I wanted him to take my hand so I didn't feel alone. But I wasn't some sick puppy, begging for love. I could stand for myself. The person I saw immediately I looked up was Leah. She was staring intently at me but she tore her gaze away when Luke said something to her. She also said something that made him kiss her. "Do you think she still likes you?" I asked Damon as we drew close

CHAPTER 98 DAMON. No fucking way. Of all the imaginations I had conjured about her, this definitely hadn't been it. I'd been taken by surprise, along with everyone else and I couldn't even talk to her because she was already walking through the crowd that had parted for her. Trevor's father was smiling but I didn't miss the question in his eyes. And as for her father, he definitely didn't look shocked. I wondered if all of these had been planned. Leah, seeing that Lena as gone, pulled Luke towards me. She was the last person I wanted to see. "Hey, Damon!" She said chirpily in her annoyingly sweet voice. Luke tipped the imaginary hat at me and smiled. If only he knew what his mate was up to. "What's up?" I shrugged. "Surviving the day, I guess." Lena had mounted the podium and was speaking. I wanted to hear what she had to say. But Lena didn't seem to want to keep her mouth shut. "So you and Lena, huh? I definitely didn't see that coming." "Leah, let's listen

CHAPTER 99 LENA. The last hour had been daunting for me. From stripping before these people to probe a point to making a speech before everyone and defying my father. Alpha Lance stood before us, smiling at me as he stepped onto the podium. "I know you're worried and all of that but trust me, she'll be trained properly." I didn't miss the look on my father's face. He was afraid. I understood his fears but this was my destiny. I couldn't run away from it. If he was afraid of me dying in the process, I wasn't. All I wanted to do was save my people even if it meant losing my life. I couldn't say that to him though. He was going to have my head on a platter. "I..." He sighed again. "She's never been to combat classes. Time is limited. How would she be able to learn what it takes to go into the other realm?" Alpha Lance placed a hand on my father's shoulder, giving him a comforting look. "We have to be realistic right now, Hales. If she doesn't do this, we are going to

CHAPTER 100 LENA. Damon was quiet for the whole drive back to my home. He'd come out with his car today and when I asked him why, he kept quiet. "I was attacked yesterday," He finally said. "I don't know, but I think someone I knew did it." I whipped my head to look at him. "Attacked?" He nodded and swallowed. His knuckles tightened around the steering wheel. "Kind of a trap. Nothing you should worry about." I scoffed. "You don't tell me stuff like this and expect me to magically not worry about it, Damon. Tell me. Everything." He sighed and rolled his eyes before nodding. "If you say so, mama. I was driving my bike back home last night and didn't see a line of spikes ahead of me. My tires hinged into it and the next thing, I was tumbling down a hill." It wasn't the demon. Heck, why would an entity with supernatural powers set up something like that for Damon? "Someone did that," I muttered underneath my breath. Damon shrugged. "I guess I have a hater now

CHAPTER 101 LENA. For the whole of next week, I dove into a series of training sessions. Alpha Lance had made sure my phone and other communication devices were confiscated. This was to make me more focused and less distracted. Well, it was easy because I decided not to text Damon after the last time. I knew the best way to talk about it was to communicate about it but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I was slightly embarrassed to talk about it so I checked out already. We also didn't text that night and that was solely because I wasn't interested in talking. I'd switched off my phone and gone ahead to continue reading the book of light, silently wishing Damon would show up at my window so we could talk it out face to face. But that night, I'd turned my phone back on to see that a guard had been killed. He was on a patrol and had strayed away from his group members and that had must have lured the Demon. I had talked about it with Alpha Lance and these were his word

Damon, who had slept over, all thanks to my Dad who gave him the permission, was still on the bed typing away at his phone. He looked up at me. "What's that? The meeting?" I nodded. "Yes." He climbed out of the bed and placed his phone on it before walking over to where I stood and cupping my cheeks. "Yes, love. It is an absolutely good idea. An opportunity for me to make it up to everyone and I don't think I can do it without you. So get dressed and let's go to the council meeting." "Okay?" I nodded. We arrived late. The meeting had started about an hour ago and just as we stepped in, everyone turned to look at us. Master Choi was at the door. He smiled at me. "You did it." I looked at Damon who shook his head. He didn't want me telling people what happened. It was our little secret and I was going to keep it f

CHAPTER 126 LENA. We were back in Willow Town. Directly in front of the tree close to the portal. Damon decided that closing it for good was the best idea. And I agreed to it. As soon as it was closed, I turned to him with a bright smile on my face. "I still can't believe that this is already over. It ended as soon as it began." "It wasn't easy anyway." Damon replied as he parted a branch for me to pass through. "I thought I was going to die for real. Metheus he...he makes me so afraid." "But he's gone now," I took his hand in mine and we intertwined fingers. "He's gone for good." "And I am happy." He sighed and looked at me. I pushed back a lock of his hair that fell over his face. "I am so happy, Lena. I am happy to be here with you. I want to help now. This is my way of repaying my sins." "It wasn't your fault," I said to him as we burst out of the woods. I smiled, seeing that my car was still there. It was almost dawn and I could tell from the way the skies

But this one? She's going to be dead before this ends." "Don't listen to him, Lena. He's trying to make you afraid of him. It's what he does." This was definitely harder than I thought. I was just coming out from the shock of seeing everyone that had died in the attack and having to let them go for good. There was this pain and burning hatred in my chest and it was all directed at the man standing before me. He was evil, menacingly cunning like the Devil and I saw why Damon was so afraid of him. I would be too. But I wasn't. All I wanted to do was avenge the death of my mother and everyone else. I had vanquished all of his demons, had his sons all locked up in abyss and it was just me and him against the whole fucking world. He was strong, I had to admit that. None of

I didn't even want to think about it. But Lena was standing beside me and she didn't look the least afraid. "They are an illusion, Lena," I informed her. "Created in his mind and brought to life like a hologram." She nodded. "That means we go for him?" I nodded. He wasn't here yet but that was the memo. "Yes." From the tower, we could see the Palace. There were several entrances on each floor and I knew which he was going to step out from. More wyverns flew out through the dome of the castle, flapping their dark, veiny wings and screeching into the night air as they flew around. One swooped down to our level and I ducked, pulling Lena along with me. "Their talons are sharp enough to kill you." "Not if we kill them first." "My father, remember?" She nodded. Just as we mo

I burst into laughter when I noticed how their frowns deepened. "We have no time for that. You're going to calmly walk to us and you're going to surrender. Unless you want us to force you." Slowly, my arms spread out. My eyes darted over to the other side of the wall. It was just Damon there. Just as he shook his head at me with panic in his eyes, he was pulled off the wall forcefully. I frowned and darted my eyes back to the men before looking back at the fort. Damon was in combat with Stefan. What the fuck? Something was wrong and Damon was unaware. Closing my eyes, I felt my powers bubble up from my insides. My eyes opened and I didn't miss the shock on the men's faces. A smirk curled up my lips and I drew close, feeling frost coat on my fingers. One of the guards broke out of the others and

I wanted to tell her that I missed her and that I wanted to kiss her full on the lips. That I wanted to touch her and sink my fingers into her hair. But she didn't seem to be in the mood for all that. If there was someone more determined than Stefan, then she had to be the one. She placed her backpack on the floor and zipped it open before grabbing a bottle of water and a croissant. She looked at me and raised it into the air in a way of asking me if I was going to eat but I shook her head and smiled at her in appreciation. Nodding, she sank her teeth into the croissant and began to chew slowly as she took a look around. She gulped down her water and kicked at a stone. I knew she was avoiding me. I knew she was avoiding getting into a conversation with me. Sighing, I leaned against the tree trunk close to me and watched her while she a

I couldn't process anything other than that and even if a tiny bit of me still felt something for him, I decided to process those feelings first before saying anything. "So what do we do now?" I asked as I kick started the engine. "Uhm, we should see your father before doing anything else. He's missed you." I gave him a hard look. "If we do not do this now, I don't know when we will. Someone else is going to die." A look of hurt flashed in his eyes but it was gone as soon as it came. He nodded. "I wasn't planning on killing anyone after that but you're right." "Where are we driving to?" I asked as I slowly backed away before making a turn in the middle of the road. "And know that if you lead me down the wrong road and try to kill me, I'll rip you apart before you blink." He's not going to harm you. "I don't care!" I snapped back at her, not minding

It felt like she was repulsed by me and it hurt really bad. It wasn't her fault anyway. I had brought this on myself. I had hurt her terribly and I knew she wasn't going to ever forgive me. Hell, I wasn't going to forgive myself for putting her through too much pain. Her fingers were wrapped around the steering wheel and her knuckles had turned white from having to grip it tightly. Once again, it was my fault. I wasn't even going to blame her for something I did. I wanted to reach out to her. I wanted to touch her so bad. I had planned a lot for her return. I had made a lot of collages of both of us and we had even set up a surprise party for her when she returned. I had set up a date for us both together before I took her back to my place. I shook my head and tried clearing my head but he was still standing before him, shock written all over his face and for the first time, I saw who he really was. For the first time, it clicked. It all started to make sense. The dark aura, the confusion that had come with him. It was all starting to manifest right now and I couldn't find my Damon anymore. I didn't see the boy I was in love with. All I could see was a murderer. A beast. A fucking killer and a demon. I tried to speak but my words got caught in my throat. My eyes darted over to the dead bodies. The amber glow of the streetlights around it burnished against the pale skin of the dead bodies, making them look ethe
