Broken Mate

Chapter One

Let me take a second to introduce myself. Hi I’m Ireland, yes like the Country. I am fairly tall for a girl about 5’7'' and about 140 lbs. I have light brown hair and eyes, nothing special. I was not abused by my parents or pack, spoiled, popular or bullied growing up. I was just me. I am very independent and very stubborn. I turned 21 today, yay me. Also I am a werewolf, a very strong one really but I choose to live human. It’s just safer for me that way. I have werewolf friends but other than the Alpha, Luna and pack doctor only 5 more people know I am a wolf. I do not live on pack lands but I work at a bar owned by the Alpha, The Howler. I know how original. Well that's it for now.

The smell of alcohol and sweat wafts through the bar burning my nostrils. I will be glad when 11 pm rolls around I will be off work and can drink legally.  However, until then I need these tips for rent. I navigate the floor of the bar with my drink tray dressed to do just that to earn tips. I am wearing a mini distressed denim skirt that shows off my long tan legs and a black low cut tank top to show my ample cleavage (36DDD cleavage). There are alot of werewolves here drinking so I hide my scent so they won’t know that I am not human. I make my way to the back booth to get a drink order from the group of guys that came in. Thirty more minutes and I can stop waiting on these drunk morons and work on becoming one. Out of nowhere the smell of beer and sweat is replaced with the most delicious smell. A masculine smell but with a hint of sweetness like hot gooey caramel. ‘Oh shit only one thing could smell this good’

‘Mate!’ my wolf yells in my head

Just then I look up at the 5 guys sitting crammed in a booth. They are all muscular and the 3 sitting together looked uncomfortable. Just as I am about to ask their drink order and look around at each of them, I catch sight of the most beautiful pair of green eyes. This man is yummy, dark brown hair, clean shaven on the sides, longer and combed to the side on top and a five o’clock shadow, I just want to feel it rub between my thighs. It took me only a second to take him in and have that naughty thought. However in that second I saw his eyes go from intrigue to pure disappointment.  I knew in that second he was my mate and I was his and he was utterly disappointed because he believed I was human. 

I know what you're thinking, why not quit hiding your scent  and let him know I was a wolf. Where is the fun in that plus I hate judgemental people. He thinks he’s better than me because he's a werewolf and he doesn’t even know me. This is gonna be fun. 

“What can I get ya to drink?” I asked while drifting my gaze to all the other guys at the table.

“Two pitchers of Blue Moon and your name sweetheart” some Platinum blonde next to Mr. Judgemental requests.

I smiled sweetly looking directly at him “Ireland what's yours sugar?” A scowl was etched on Mr. Judgementals face. 

“Well I am Josh, this is Jackson” pointing to the guy across from him with light brown hair. “This is Greyson” he pointed to the guy in the middle of the 3 that had black hair.

“I am Preston” Piped up the guy sitting on the end. When Mr. Judgemental did not speak up, he stated “and this is Oliver.”

“Well I will be back with those drinks and here is a chair so you don’t have to sit on top of each other.”

“I would be fine if you sat on top of me,” Greyson flirted. I just chuckled but the redness in Oliver’s face could not be hidden. ‘Stupid jealous wolves’

“10 shots of Jack too” Oliver gritted out.

Greyson hands me his card “keep it open.”

“Coming right up” I turned and left purposefully flicking my hair so my muted scent would drift toward my mate. You see there is an element of a wolf's scent that makes it known they’re a werewolf so hiding my scent does not mean I don’t have a scent to me it's just muted but to my mate it is different. A mate's scent is a combination of smells you love most. It attracts you to them.

I walked up to Erik, the bartender who happens to be one of the few that knows about me and is also a werewolf but not a pack wolf. Pack wolves call none pack wolves rogues. Rogues exist but wolves like Erik I just refer to as independents. He does not try to hurt anyone or live wildly. He just doesn’t answer to an Alpha well with the exception of at work.

“15 more minutes and you're off and I am gonna serve you alcohol until you pass out, lollipop (his nickname for me). I laugh and give him the order for the table of wolves. “Why is that pack guy staring at you?” he asked. 

“He’s my mate” I state dryly.

“That’s amazing, why aren’t you already in the bathroom mating and marking?” Erik laughs but there is a sorrow in his words having been rejected by his mate because he was an independent. 

“Gross! I may be loud mouthed but I ain’t trashy plus he appears disappointed because he thinks I’m human. He barely spoke to me.”

“Oh no that judgemental ass doesn’t know the trouble he started.” Erik just laughs.

I winked at him, grabbed the pitchers of beer and glasses and headed back to the table. “I will be right back with those shots.”

“You're not going to pour our first glasses for us?” Greyson asks. 

“Of course I will.” I begin pouring the glasses of beer “ I just didn’t realize you liked to be babied.” 

“You can baby me any time.” Greyson smirked.

“Not so much head!” Oliver growled out when there was a little too much foam on top of his glass.

“I am sorry I thought men liked head.” I say suggestively and walk away while his friends laugh and his mouth hangs open, eyes darkened in lust.

When I arrive back at the bar there are 12 shots on the tray. 10 of them Jack and 2 Tequila. I look at Erik questioningly. 

“The tequila is yours, you will be off when you drop them off so give ‘em hell.”

“I love you Erik!”

I made my way back to the table. “Who is ready for shots?” I cheer as I set the tray down on the empty table next to me.

“Two shots each please to atleast get us started,” Jackson laughed. I placed two shots in front of everyone making sure that when I gave my mate his I bent down showing him my cleavage. His eyes met mine; they were again darkened with lust. I just smirked and straightened up. ‘I will never understand how some wolves can’t keep emotions from their eyes’. I turned back to my shot picking them up.

“Cheers boys!” I downed both shots and the guys followed in suit, downing theirs with Jackson making a face. I smiled at all of them about to walk away to get another drink and wait for my friend to arrive. 

“Does the owner know you drink on the job, flirt and throw yourself at guys for tips?” Mr. Judgmental questions. 

‘Listen here you mutt don’t you ever assume shit about me’, that is what I wanted to say but I reel in my mouth just this once.

  “Actually I am off work now, I turned 21 today. I don’t need to get drunk, throw myself at anyone or flirt to earn tips. I am good at my job and these dogs here know I am off limits. They like me so they tip me because of my cheery demeanor. Now if you don’t mind I will leave you and your pack of wolves to yourselves. Stay safe.” All the snickering of the guys at the table stopped at my comment about wolves. 

“What do you mean pack of wolves?” Preston questioned.

“Oh all I mean is you are a bunch of good looking guys, I am sure when you set your sights on a girl you get your prey.” I lied, placing my hand on Preston’s shoulder. I could feel Oliver's glare where my hand was touching another male. 

“You're right, we could have anyone” Oliver spat. I wonder if he was trying to convince me or himself.

“Down boy. Of course that is anyone but me.” I winked and left him. I could hear a faint growl but mostly I heard his friends laughing.

‘Why did you do that to mate? I want to be with mate!’ My wolf Belle scolds me.

‘You saw how he judged us, rejected us without knowing us.’

Belle whimpers at the word “rejected,” I feel bad but she needs to be with me on this.

I sat at the bar having whatever drink Erik made. It was good and strong when Jason came in, Erik’s cousin. Jason was a Pack wolf he belonged to Dark Skies Pack. Despite being a pack wolf he was one of my best friends. Belle and his wolf Max loved to run together. Erik hands Jason a beer. 

“Now that you can be here after work you wanna learn how to play pool?” Jason asks with a smile.

“Yes please, anything to distract me, Erik send another round of shots on me to the wolf pack, I am gonna have some fun.”

Jason looked confused so Erik filled him in while he poured shots. Jason turned around and looked at the table. As he went face by face around the table a look of recognition crossed his face. Before I could ask about it Jason said “Let's give him hell.”

As the shots were being delivered to the table I raised my shot in the air while looking at them with a smirk and downed my tequila and finished it with a lime. The others at the table took theirs as well, well everyone except Mr. Judgmental. He smirked then touched the waitress that replaced me on the arm and whispered in her ear. Emilia, my replacement was a slutty little pack wolf she didn’t know I was a wolf and she did not like me at all. I turned my attention back to Jason and smiled. I slid off my barstool making our way to the pool tables. We made sure to get a table that my so-called mate would have a good view of. While Jason racked the balls I slowly slid my hand up and down the pool stick while moving my hips to the music a little. A low growl could be heard, however someone was trying to make it sound like they were just clearing their throat. I could see by the reflection in the pool stick case that it was Mr. Judgmental himself. I could also see when he grabbed Emilia by the arm and sat her on his lap. She giggled her stupid high pitch laugh and wiggled around suggestively. 

‘How dare that bitch sit on our mates lap’ Belle seethed in my mind. 

“Okay baby girl, I am gonna step this up a notch and give that hoe bag mate of yours a taste of his own medicine.” Jason spoke quietly so as to not be overheard.

Jason gets behind me and uses his body to bend mine over, then he puts his hand lightly on my inner thigh to spread my legs a bit. After doing that he wrapped his arms around me to help me hold the pool stick correctly. I am sure this all looks very intimate, but I am not Jason’s type. I don’t have the right equipment in my panties. I could feel Oliver’s glare as much as I could see it in the reflection. I was actually surprised by his restraint, but then again he doesn’t want a human like me. The restraint must have snapped when Jason brushed my hair to the side, resting his head on my shoulder and acted like he was whispering in my ear because a growl ripped through the bar. Oliver then stomped by knocking Jason off to the side of me with his shoulder. As he kept walking I noticed his hand in Emilia’s walking toward the women’s bathroom. I knew what he and that whore were about to do and it took great restraint not to attack right then, but I decided to give it a few minutes.

My lips started to burn and my tongue felt like I had just eaten a ghost pepper. This was an indication my mate was kissing someone other than me. When you find your mate and they do something sexual with another you feel what they are doing to the other one, just it’s painful. However, I held off just a little longer till I felt a tightness in my chest just over my right breast, that's when I stormed into the bathroom. The sight that I see makes my blood boil, but I remind myself that I have to stay calm, act human, and ignore my instincts.

My mate has Emilia against a wall kissing her, his hand on her breast and her legs wrapped around his waist. Belle is screaming in my head ready to murder this whore. I wince slightly at the instant headache she is causing. Goddess I don’t know how I was granted so much strength, but I calmly cleared my throat and tapped my mate's shoulder getting his attention. 

“Sorry, to interrupt this beautiful romantic moment but Emilia needs to get to work despite what you and her may believe fucking in the bathroom isn’t her job.”

“Listen here slut, you're not my alph...boss. You don’t tell me what to do.” Emilia snapped. She must be feeling brave with Oliver here. 

That's when I snapped. I grab her by her arm, jerk her out from the wall and Oliver and toss her toward the door. She landed on the floor rather harshly. “I may not be your boss but Zander is and you know how it is between me and him. So watch your fucking mouth don’t you ever insult me again or I will cut your tongue out, now get your pathetic ass to work.” 

She gets up off the floor, she looks like she wants to say something but my facial expression must stop her because she exits the bathroom. I walk into the stall to do my business, not caring if Mr. Ass was still in the bathroom. When I came out and began washing my hands, and  I notice he was still in here, standing next to the wall looking all pissed off at me. 

“Can I help you? This is the lil girls room.”

That's when his control snapped again tonight. He grabs me and pins me to the wall. He was just a couple inches taller than me, not quite 6 foot tall. Our bodies are touching, igniting sparks where our skin touches. I try really hard to not let it show that it affects me. He however is not as good as me as he takes a big inhale of my scent, before looking at me angrily. “What did you mean by how things are between you and Zander? Are you having sex with him? He’s married. What kind of slut did I get for a Ma...waitress?” His eyes were almost black. 

‘He almost messed up and acknowledged we were mates’ Belle was so happy.

I just started laughing and the grip he had on my arms tightened which made me laugh a bit harder. “That is gross, Zander is old enough to be my dad! He actually knew my dad. Lilly, Zanders wife is a lovely woman. I have a question, Oliver was it? Why do you care what kind of slut your waitress is or your former waitress? I am off work now. Are you jealous that someone else may be able to touch this body?” I say wiggling a little bit. “Might, get to own this mouth?” I lean in and touch my lips to him briefly. I can feel him wanting to deepen the kiss instantly, my body wants to react too but I can’t let it. I shove him back and as he growls and I saunter out the door.
