" Food is ready" Ann said aloud, her voice echoing from the kitchen. Denise faked a static smile when Ann moved closer to the dining table. She placed the food on the table while Denise rose to join her. "That's it! A strong and beautiful Denise we have here" Ann praised...rubbing her best friend's hair. " Leave me alone already" Denise replied jokingly. She opened the food and inhaled deeply. " Easy Denise...I don't want you to use your inhaler right now. The food is more sumptuous than it looks" she whispered.
Denise smiled. This time, it wasn't fake. She drew in a long breath. " Thanks Ann" she said.
" What? Come on! Stop that" Ann replied munching the mountain of food in her mouth. " Just eat up! I made this with so much love" Ann said. Denise took a spoonful and nodded her head. Ann sure knew how to spice her food. She was right–it tasted better than it looked.
" Why don't you open up a restaurant real soon? This is so delicious" Denise praised. " Well...I uhmm..."
A message from Denise's phone interrupted her words. Denise swiped up and saw that she had a notification from I*******m. She dropped the phone and hissed. Then, took another spoonful of food. But her eyes were still on the phone.
" Are you sure you wouldn't check that out?" Ann suggested. Denise paused and rolled her eyes. Then she clicked om the message. She shouldn't have listened to her best friend.
Right before her eyes was a post from Kathryn and it read...
" With the love of my life, C..."
Denise counted the love emojis after the letter 'C'. They were exactly thirteen.
She was filled with rage. The food she had fetched dropped on the table." What is it this time?" Angela asked fuming under her breath. Denise faked a smile and turned her phone upside down. " Denise...?" Ann called out. " It's nothing...just some stuff..." She lied.
Denise couldn't control the heat that weled up in her stomach. Why would she wait till daybreak to appease her instincts? The post she had just seen triggered her fury even more. Soon, she had left the food on the table and grabbed her bag. " I'm going to meet up with som colleague from work. Will be back shortly" she texted Ann whom she waited for to go upstairs before sneaking out to avoid being interrogated like a culprit at the police station.
Denise looked up the annoying photo again and zoomed out to have a better view. Then, a message dropped in her inbox. She quickly opened it. " How daring of that witch!" she murmured under her breath.
She zoomed out the photo on the screen. Clark and Kathryn were at the beach smiling as if they had not attempted to send a human soul to an early grave. How cruel of Clark! Denise's breath heightened. She knew what to do; keep the phone away but she couldn't. The beach was one of her favorite spots. She had gone there with Clark once after much persuasion. It never dawned on her that Clark was putting up an act all along. If only she knew earlier...
Clark broke her heart. Kathryn pierced it. The photo dropped hot coals on her chest. She was back to the routine–crying her eyes out. The tears dropped on her phone screen. Denise tried to be as quiet as possible in order to keep the driver's attention away. She was lost in the labyrinth of her thoughts when the driver called out to her awakening her senses.
" Yes! I'm.. I'm so sorry sir" she apologized and stepped out of the car then paid him off.
Her eyes were swollen. One would bet that another round of crying from her would automatically make her go blind from eye swelling.
Denise booked an appointment quickly. Thanks to the kind nurse she had met on the counter. The doctor was surprised to see Denise again.
" Yes! I was here and I'm here to take a paternity test" Denise cleared his doubts.
" Why would you do that?" he inquired. If only the doctor knew how annoying his question was...how furious Denise was getting but tried to maintain her cool...he wouldn't have spat such privacy intruding words.
" Are you doing it or not?" Denise asked forgetting her manners. The doctor caught sight of the smirk on her face and sighed. " I was just wondering why that'll be necessary, ma'am" he said as if reading her thoughts. Denise rolled her eyes.
" I want it tonight" she added.
" That won't be possible" the doctor responded. " The result will be sent to your home address when it's ready. Please do well to leave your address before you leave" he said.
Denise brought out a piece of paper and pen from her bag and scribbled some letters on it then pushed it to the doctor's face.
He leaned backwards to avoid having close contact with the paper. Denise faked a smile which sent shivers down the doctor's spine.
" Uh...let me carry out a few scans before you leave" he managed to say.
Denise made way for him to do whatever he needed to do. Moreover, she would be getting a confirmation soon. How he went about it wasn't her business...what the result will be was what mattered the most.
She finished from the hospital at exactly 10:00pm. It would be difficult to get a cab home as none of the drivers were within reach. Denise walked a few meters away from the hospital looking for a cab.
After waiting for over fifteen minutes, the headlights of a car from the distance gave her hope. She waved but it didn't stop. It was driving with such a speed she had to leave the road quickly to avoid being run over.
" What was that nonsense?" she hollered holding her chest and breathing heavily.
Like the speed of lightning, it dawned on Denise to go after the car as it looked familiar. She quickly rushed over and hid beside a wall to have a better look.
It was a red Mercedes-Benz...she was always at the front seat. It was Clark's.
"No way!" Denise whispered.
Just then, an astonishing beauty stepped down from the car. From the legs, to the height to the body...she was on shades and a veil covered her face. They grew up together. No matter the transformation... Denise's wouldn't get it wrong! It was

" What on earth are the two sworn enemies of her destiny doing at this hospital so late in the night?" Denise thought to herself. She could hear Kathryn complaining agitatively about something. Denise moved closer being extra careful not to be seen by them. Thankfully, there were a few cars parked before Clark's Mercedes-Benz. Denise tiptoed to the one right beside Clark's and squat to listen to Kathryn's words." I can't believe you failed to use the condoms. I bought three whole oacks for the night. Why were you careless?" Kathryn's voice echoed.Denise wondered why she was so loud. It was late in the night...has she forgotten? " Wait a sec, protection?" Denise whispered to herself. She had a clear picture of what that meant but she dismissed the thought at once. She must hear from the horse's mouth. She had had enough already." Babe, I'm sorry. You know how irresistible you are. I couldn't step back to get them. You put me in the mood already"" Shut the fuck up! You say that all
Immediately they went into the hospital, Denise pulled herself out of hiding. She watched as they clasped their hands together and headed into the hospital like newlyweds. Her phone rang to disrupt her array of thoughts. She quickly left to find a cab. Her phone kept blaring until she answered it. “Where are you? It’s late…”Denise sniffled her nose in a bid not to breakdown into tears. “Hey...Can you hear me?” Angela’s voice asked from other end of the call. Denise looked around yet, she couldn’t see any cab that would pull over to take her to her destination. “Angela…please can you…”Before she could complete her statement, she sighted a cab and screamed…”stop! Please…”Fortunately, the cab pulled over. “I’m spending the night at my house. I’ll see you tomorrow” she told Angela immediately she got into the cab. The ride was quiet short. Denise hurried out of the car as soon as she paid the cab driver double the usual pay. She flung the gate open and jerked off to the living room
The transition from night to dawn took a donkey years. If there was a way to hasten it, Denise would have spun the wheel. Perhaps, she would have been in thhee future; five years after the heartbreak. She yawned as she stretched her arms." Ouch! That hurts" she whined. What could she expect? Her body would definitely ache from laying on the tiles floor all through the night. She rushed out of the house after grabbing her bag and went straight to board a taxi. It wasn't she long she got one and off she went to Angela's. Denise peeped from the gate and certain that no one was in the house, tiptoed in. It was a perfect timing! She had never wanted anyone to know her next move. With what she had in mind, Angela would stop her.She quickly put her few stuff together into one of Angela's empty bags. She didn't think of anything else...not even to take a shower, brush her mouth or tidy her hair. " I'm sorry, Angela. You were the only one that comforted me in my pain. I should inform you but
" The number you've dialed is unavailable. Please leave a voice message or call back later..." a tiny voice echoed from the other end of the call. Angela drew her lower lip in between her teeth and bit gently. She couldn't seem to settle down. " Where could she be? She's always home before this time. Denise..." she complained. Finally, she slumped into the couch and embraced a pillow beside her. " Denise, I hope you are safe out there" she thought to herself. Just then, her phone beeped. " Denise?" her eyes sparkled with joy. She answered the call quickly without checking the caller's name. " Good heavens! Why did it take you so long to call me? Don't ever try to give me a heart attack. Jeez...! " Excuse me, is this Miss Angela?" the voice from the other end of the call inquired bringing Ann back to her senses. " Ye---s" she managed to reply. The caller went on and on. " We'll see at work tomorrow. Make sure to get the files processed. I'm looking forward to a great work" " Of c
Angela slipped into her pyjamas, the soft cotton fabric a comfort against her skin after a long day. She brushed her teeth, the minty taste lingering as she glanced at her reflection. Her usually bright eyes were shadowed with fatigue, yet a restless energy hummed beneath the surface. She turned off the bathroom light and padded back to her bedroom, where the moonlight spilled through the curtains, casting silvery patterns on the floor. Angela pulled back the covers and slid into bed, the sheets cool and crisp.Hours ticked by, and Angela found herself staring at the ceiling, her book long forgotten beside her. The silence of the house was punctuated by the occasional creak of settling wood, each sound amplifying her awareness of the stillness. She tossed and turned, her mind replaying the events of the day and anticipating the challenges of tomorrow. No position brought comfort, and each attempt to settle only seemed to heighten her frustration. Angela's mind was filled with thoug
You’re freaking hot, man”, Denise said with a drowsy voice that clearly says she’s wasted. The young man sitting in front of her was everything ‘hot’ entailed. Is it his bare and hairy chest that stood from his lilac unbuttoned collar shirt just the way Denise wanted? Or his arms that screams “Dwayne Johnson’ one of Denise’s favourite Hollywood actors? Denise was completely taken aback. This gentleman sitting in front of her had turned her on without even knowing it. She reached out for his chest and his eyes followed her hands step by step. Just before it landed on his bare chest, he held her hand. “Easy, baby…Clark’s nothing you can handle” he said. “I couldn’t resist….Clark? She mentioned his name as if it was a question that demanded a quick answer. Clark chuckled. Denise just didn’t know who she was dealing with. He turned to his bodyguards and nodded his head and immediately, they stepped back. Clark rose to his feet and walked over to Denise. “shall we?” he asked. She sipp
“You look worn out…but a bit over the moon. Tell me, what’s the secret?” Kathryn said in that lovely voice of hers to her one and only elder sister, Denise. The office girl dragged her feet and slumped into the couch in the living room while throwing her bag carelessly and it fell on Kathryn’s face.“Ouch! That hurts” her younger sister whined. Denise chuckled. “Really? You’re not going to say sorry?” Kathryn complained. Denise drew in a long breath and pressed her cheeks excitedly. Her stomach rumbled. Quite a long day with a beautiful memory she wouldn’t forget in a long while.Kathryn walked up to her and sat on the couch’s arm. Then she pinched her neck. “Ouch!” Denise screamed while Kathryn burst into laughter. “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” she joked. “Very well then, I won’t tell you the reason behind my excitement” Denise threatened. Denise pushed her mouth and a line appeared between her eyebrows. She sat into the couch and wrapped her arms around Denise. The elder

Angela heaved a long sigh as she rolled her eyes. Come on, Denise...I know this is hard but you can't continue like this babe..." Denise blinked her eyelids many times as possible to keep the tears away from dripping. She turned her back against Angela. But then, she burst into crying. Angela locked the door and hugged Denise from behind. " It's okay darling...I understand that Kathryn hurt you but this is not he best way to go about it"Denise released herself from Angela's hug. " This is not just about Kathryn. Clark caused everything. He lied to me and made me believe that he was in love with me. Ann, I gave him my all and..."" Oh! Please...the last thing I want to talk about right now is that fool" Angela rolled her eyes and smirked. Denise was still sobbing. She slumped into the couch behind her staring straight into her best friend's eyes. She had never wanted things to get so bad that her best friend would insult the love of her life. "There's got to be some mistake..." The words flew out of her mouth without caution. The doctor, who was beaming with smiles raised an eyebrow. " Excuse me?" he said. Denise's eyes were still fixated on the paper in her hands. She shut her eyes and opened them at once wishing as always that everything was a nightmare. " Uh...I think you should go home and have some rest. Eat well and make sure to come for a check-up in the next one month". The doctor instructed.Denise jerked off the bed leaving the doctor startled andd headed straight out of the hospital. She was trying hard to get a hold of herself. Here is her world, crumbling again. " I can't be pregnant. Not right now good heavens!" she sobbed under her breath. She waved at a cab driver and he pulled over right in front of her. She couldn't say a word to him. Denise typed the address on her cellphone and showed it to him. There was nowhere else to go except Angela's. Even though, Denise didn't want her to find her in such a sor
