Behind my home is a large forest that stretches way beyond where my little eyes can see. There are many massive trees that can hide a person from view and are so tall that when looking up, all you can see are leaves.
Many animals live there in the forest. I made friends with some of them, who usually come to me for food and pets. My best friend is Coco the rabbit. He is grey in colour, fat and fluffy like a teddy bear with a little pink button nose.
I sat at the trunk of the tree with two large roots on either side of me like I’m sitting on a large chair. I was dressed in my white and green floral dress I loved so much, whilst petting Coco on my lap. I dreamt of what I would look like when I grew up. I want to look just like my mother, for she was beautiful standing at five foot two with her long golden hair, smooth and clear skin and a very kind heart.
Unfortunately I was born with long black hair like my late grandmother's. I also had pimples and freckles on my face that made me look like a ten year old dork, all I missed to complete that look was a pair of specs. My dark brown eyes I'm guessing, must have come from someone in the family, of whom I haven't met them yet.
My family was never one to go on house visits and stuff like that so knowing other family members were slim, unless they visited us.
In the middle of my day dreaming, I saw a faint blue, almost white light straight ahead of me about ten feet away. I stared at it for a while, not sure what to do. Eventually I followed it.It was as though it was calling to me. Coming face to face with the light, my hands automatically stretched out to touch this strange light that felt warm. I tripped on something. Bracing myself for the brute force of the ground, I closed my eyes.
However when my face met with the ground it was unexpectedly soft, and it groaned...
Opening my eyes and scrambling to get up as fast as I could, I stumbled backwards falling hard on my bottom. My golden haired older brother was sprawled out on the hard ground face down.
When I looked around, I found myself in a cleared area with a lake at the center. I’ve been in the forest all my life and never have I seen this place before.
It was beautiful and strangely peaceful.
Before my mind could process anything, the blue light that was hovering over my brother dived at him and engulfed his body. It was like it shielded him. Without thinking my hands stretched out to touch it once more.
A little blop of the light stretched out and caressed my palm. Before I knew it my palm was faced up and the light made a little bunny that danced on my hand.
"Lia..." I heard someone say. "Lia, wake up! Wake up! Wake up!"
Oh it's my little brat of a sister, Aaliyah.
"Five more minutes." I groaned.
"Oh, oh, he's coming," she said, chuckling.
'SPLASH!' a very cold liquid had been splashed over me.
"You son of a witch!" I flew up yelling.
"Morning sunshine" my older brother, Bruce, said with a smirk on his face.
"I'll kill you! You - You aarrrgh!" I spat out infuriated.
"Love you too sis" all the while my sister had been rolling on my bedroom floor laughing.
"Come on, you'll be late for your last day of school. You don't want to miss your own graduation now would you?" Sometimes I hate his guts, he's so annoying but usually he’s right.
"Get out, both of you, let me change." I scoffed, rolling my eyes and was very annoyed because of my drenched condition.
"That sounds more like it, see you in ten. Oh and you might want to put that to get some sun" he said pointing to my now fully soaked bed.
"Arss" I called him by his new name that I’ve been calling him for months now. It’s as though he’s growing into a bigger one as the days go by.
"Hey it worked didn't it?" he said with a little chuckle. "Whatever" I grimaced, throwing my pillow at him as he and my sister laughed on their way out of my room.
After I was dressed and hauled my mattress outside to be sun dried, I went to the kitchen for breakfast. My mother, Alyssa always greeted me with a warm smile, but this morning her smile looked a bit forced."Good morning my dear" she greeted me while turning some deliciously smelling concoction on the stove top.
"Morning mom, is everything okay? You look stressed." She turned her back to me, putting scrambled eggs in the frying pan.
"I'm fine, just a bit excited that my baby is graduating, but sad you're all grown up," she sighed. "Hey, I'll always be your little girl mom" I went around the island to give her a hug.
"I know, it's just that things are changing so fast." She sniffled. I was at a loss for words because things have changed drastically in the last eight years of my life.
"In two days you'll be eighteen." She hiccuped with tears in her eyes.
"Hey don't cry it's not like I'm getting married and leaving to go halfway across the world or something, I'll still be here. Come on, you know I don't like to see you cry, mom I'll be late if you do this." I tickled her a bit to make her laugh while hugging her.
"Okay come on, take your breakfast and get out of my house before you're really late. We'll see you there. I love you honey." She said pushing me out the front door.
"I love you too mom." I said then gave her a kiss before I left to meet my brother, who was giving me a ride to school in his brand new Audi.
"Shit Bruce I'm fricking graduating! I'm freaking out. Was it like this for you? - what the hell, stop laughing. I'm serious here. Bruce!" I tapped him on the back of his head."Hey! Okay, okay, yeah it was. Mom dropped the 'you're all grown up' stunt didn't she?" He said, shaking his head.
"Yeah and she cried too." I looked at him with a pained expression across my face
"Oh yeahhh you're screwed” he chuckled,
"You are no help whatsoever!"
I slumped into the seat with a frown on my face.A few hours later, I finally got through graduation with my friend Becca. We both ended up in tears and we clung to each other like glue the whole time."Hey pumpkin." A man with sun kissed hair that has a resemblance to my brother but older, called out to me.
"Daddy! you're here!" My father, Bryan Valentina, was supposed to be at a very important meeting at this moment.
"You don't think I was going to miss one of my favourite girls' big day did you?" I ran into his open arms.
"Oh daddy, thank you, but you're - " he cut me off with a motion of his hand.
"I finished early so I came straight here just in time to see you up there." Okay that was all it took for the dam in me to burst, I tried so hard not to cry all day but this, this ruined me.
Two days after my graduation, I'm eighteen but I don’t feel happy about it, which is weird. Dad is keeping a party for me which I totally tried to stop him from doing without much luck. ”You're eighteen now and things will be changing for you. Most of our family and friends will be joining us so don't worry about it.” he explained simply. I hate crowds. I guess I'll just have to tolerate it then. Family and friends I can handle. I just have to find a way to sneak out and get some alone time and let off some of this energy build up, that seems to be getting stronger, I can feel it running through my veins. After my morning shower, I looked at myself in the mirror, I look a bit different than I was eight years ago. I no longer have pimples, however the freckles still remained, but they do look a little faded now. I have
Malia's POVThe Windows were all broken, there were bodies laying all over the front lawn. As soon as I pulled over on the side of the road, not bothering to go into the garage, Bruce and I fled to the front door with Aaliyah on our heels. Bruce swung the door open, almost taking it right off of its hinges. There is a lot of blood, dead people, some beheaded, a man and a woman who looks like Bruce and I but older, were standing before us with blood on their hands and cheeks. Mom laid in dad's arms on the floor. They both looked weak. As soon as my mind processed what had happened, my power flared up. My skin started to glow, colors danced on my skin, red, yellow, purple, blue, green, and my eyes turned from brown to a crystal green. I was angry. As I was about to attack the two strangers, I
"This Oasis of Terra-genesis, is the lake of the gods which only appears to descendants who have not yet crossed into adulthood and are yet unable to control their power, wherever they may be. The water itself manifests the descendants' uncontrollable power in an attempt to subdue the mass of power that is generated from the young descendants by creating a battle in their body and minds. It is then up to them to fight and take control of what power is left in them. For each descendant their training is different. Bruce, for example, has no need to enter the lake. His power controls the earth and the sky, therefore the earth is more of an anchor for him. What amazes me the most is that Malia has the power to control water, the earth, the sky and the animals. However, in the state both of you are in, you need to start physical training as soon as possible." Before Ryan could finish his explanation on the lake, all my power had been given bac
I heard a loud howl which gave me a jump start to swim for the shore. Back on land I slipped on my nightgown but before I could make a move to head back for the steps, I heard movements a few yards from where I stood. I turned slowly to face my pursuer, my breath caught in my throat. A huge yellow pair of eyes, jet black fur, four legs, muscular body, an animal that looked like a wolf and a dog at the same time, eye level with me and huge sharp white teeth. My shock lasted a few precious seconds before I slowly backed away from the creature. Every step I took backwards, the creature advanced slowly as though it was toying with its prey. I backed away until my back went flush against the bank. The steps were a few feet away from me but getting from here to there seemed nearly impossible without getting torn to pieces. Resigned to my faith I closed my eyes and turned my head away from t
As I got to the lawn in front of the castle, colours danced on my skin. My entire body was enclosed in a mixture of colours. “What…. Bruce, what’s happening to me?” Fear gripped me. My body was in a war with itself. My power was pushing but my conscious mind tried to contain it. “Malia, look at me.” Mia commanded. “Breathe honey, breathe. It’s ok. Stop fighting it. Everything is going to be alright. It’s ok to let go.” I shivered with the amount of power that felt like it would rip my insides out. By this time all who came to the memorial gathering were now surrounding me and looking on. “No! Get back! Get away from me please…..” I pleaded and fell to my knees on the cold hard groun
“This is Cayden Xalvador, warrior and protector of the throne. Xalvador, my daughter, Princess Malia Amari Valentina.” An involuntary groan sounded from my throat because of the introduction. I raised a perfectly arched brow “Mate?” My body tensed as I heard the sexiest sound I have ever heard. Mr. Xalvador groaned. He groaned and my body felt like it burned inside out. Cayden Xalvador opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out. He looked as though he was in agony. Beaded sweat was along his forehead. “Excuse me. We’ll meet again.” I was stunned for a moment when Mr. Xalvador practically ran out the door taking that sweet manly scent with him. There was pure silence for about a minute u
“None of you are allowed to be out of this castle without an escort.” Ryan exclaimed to my siblings and I. “We need to protect you from the Xaiden Clan. They aren’t like the vampires you’ve encountered on our way here. They are stronger, faster and are involved in mutations that are extremely… revolting.” Xaiden Clan? Where have I heard this name before? “What do you mean Xaiden Clan? How do I know that name?” Dad told us stories about the great underworld but I thought it was just bedtime stories to scare us. “Xaiden has been claimed to be the first vampire bloodline which are the original vampires since the beginning of time.” Ryan explained, “They live for thousands of years if they are not killed. Their strength and speed are immeasurable. The newborns were the ones you encountered on our way here. They are weaker and a
Mia granted my request to have Aaliyah and I separated, however what I didn't know was that Caden would be accompanying me as Mia assisted Aaliyah. We both sat in the waiting room or as Mia called it the parlour. ”Caden?” I said turning to face him. ”hmm” he was going through some kind of documents in his hands. ”Can I be absolutely honest with you?” He stopped what he was doing and looked directly into my eyes. ”Sure. I expect nothing less.” I fidgeted for a bit but it needed to be said. ”I… You scare me.” I blurted out and hung my head, not looking at him to get away from his alluring eyes. He was silent for what seemed like an eternity before he responded, ”what exactly scares you?” As he asked this I felt the seat next to me dip as I realized that he was now
Becca joined in on the fight with Mr. Seghal against Malia using a ball of her fire power as Mr. Seghal tried to physically tackle her. Malia spun away from Mr. Seaghal’s close grasp as she used a ball of water bigger that Becca’s fireball which quenched the fire in mid air as she aimed it at Mr. Seghal. Before he could drudge the attack he was hit by the water ball. He was caught off guard and was now drenched. Aaliyah was frozen to the spot she was sitting. Becca was the second person whom she had ever seen use powers which were even similar to Malia’s. On the day they arrived at Vernon's cove, the flames that burnt the flesh of those vampires were blue, whereas the flames that Becca used were more an orange, red like color. Malia lost in the physical fight however she was not backed into a corner when the odds were against her
That night after Caden dropped me back to the castle I opened his black box. Inside was a single silver key. I held the key to examine it. To my knowledge it looked like a house key. Smiling, I placed it back in the box and kept it on the nightstand.I then opened the little bag that Miss Jouysena gave me. Inside was a little jade ornament that was the shape of a seahorse. It was just like the one I saw in her shop. I place the ornament in the palm of my hand admiring the beauty of it. Before I knew it the jade was glowing like the colours of the rainbow. Its shape had changed into a dragon. It slithered to my wrist, encircling it wrapping itself around my hand until it settled into a resting position. It was no longer jade but a type of silver metal or something that was now a bracelet. To be honest I was shocked, a bit scared
After leaving Jouysena’s, Caden took me to a remote place away from the village. He took me to his home near a lake. “Does jouysena live with you?”“No, but you're welcome to.” He said as he chopped up vegetables, teasing me.Caden decided to cook us dinner for our first date. I sat at the counter watching him at work as I kept him company. It’s not that I could not cook but Caden decided that he wanted to do something special for me before he left for his mission tomorrow.“You’re parents…what happened to them?” It was hard to ask but I did want to know. “Vampires. They attacked our village. My father was coming back from a search party when their group was ambushed. Mother was with me and my brother a
“I give up. I have absolutely nothing to wear. I can’t go with any of these.” I showed her the hopeless clothing I brought along with me from home. “What do I do Be?” I sank to the bed discarding the top I had in my hand to the rest of the pile on the bed next to us. The seamstress hadn’t finished making my clothes yet so what I came with is what I had to choose from which wasn't very much. There was a knock at the door when I dropped myself next to the pile laying on the bed in frustration. Becca went to see who it was looking at me with amusement which caused me to throw a pillow at her which she caught while sticking out her tongue at me. “Does someone need a little hand?” Mia asked, holding up a green tank top in her hands. My eyes opened wide as I sprang up to sit
The next day I had an appointment with Becca and Seghal. “Lia you're getting sloppy. Concentrate.” Becca and I were sparring with each other. Something we haven’t done for almost over two months due to exams, graduation and moving here. The first time I saw Becca’s strength was when she took down the class bully in just one swift move. I was in aww. She was strong, fast and heck she stood up to the fat guy who was three or four times her size and about ten times her weight. One steady uppercut under his jaw and he was down for the count. I practically begged her to teach me how to fight and she had. However, today, today I realized that she was holding back. I felt sore all over, and the worst part was, she was still holding back. Over the years she had gotten stronger and faster. “If you can’t hit me, block my attack and t
That night after the meeting was another night of no sleep. Instead of roaming the castle or going to the beach I sat out by the balcony of my room overlooking a mass majority of clean cut lawn. There was a rounded glass top table with two identical wooden chairs on either side of the table. My mind roamed to my parents which caused my heart to ache. Silent tears fell as I remembered their faces and our happy and sad times together. I miss spending time with my siblings however it can’t be helped at this time. It’s hard dealing with our parents' death but for Aaliyah’s sake I can’t be around her. As my mind tried to reason with the pros and cons in my current situation. There was a sudden knock at the door. Thinking it might be Bruce coming to check on me, I wipe
The meeting I asked Ryan to organise would start at 2:30pm as it gave everyone time to assemble. I invited Becca to accompany me to the meeting. I was a bit nervous but having her there made me a little comfortable as she was the only one I really knew. The three gentlemen whom I rudely interrupted the other day were there as well as Ryan and Caden. As Ryan was about to introduce everyone, I politely stopped him, “Good day gentlemen. Thank you for making time in your busy schedule to come today. Please have a seat.” no one sat except for Becca. I looked at Ryan and Caden who were also standing. Becca chuckled a little, “You know... they won't unless you do.” she said looking at me with amusement clearly showing on her face. Ryan gestured for me to sit in his seat behind his desk however I shook my head and sat next to Becca turni
That night I couldn't sleep again so I went down to the beach with a sheet, a basket of apples and a bottle filled with water. I laid myself and the basket on the now opened sheet on the sand. Listening to the wind and the waves crashing on the sand. Looking at the stars in the sky I tried to free my mind from everything I've been through for the past few days. How do I deal with a situation like this? I know running from it wouldn’t really help me but where do I start? How do I even begin? “Mom, dad, I need you. What advice would you give me?” I laughed a little as I remembered dad’s favorite words, “If life gives you lemons sweety, just make yourself some lemonade.” and mom would always tell me that no matter where I end up in life its my choice to be who I want to be, and if I fall no matter what, get back up, remember who you are and try again.
