I heard a loud howl which gave me a jump start to swim for the shore. Back on land I slipped on my nightgown but before I could make a move to head back for the steps, I heard movements a few yards from where I stood. I turned slowly to face my pursuer, my breath caught in my throat. A huge yellow pair of eyes, jet black fur, four legs, muscular body, an animal that looked like a wolf and a dog at the same time, eye level with me and huge sharp white teeth. My shock lasted a few precious seconds before I slowly backed away from the creature. Every step I took backwards, the creature advanced slowly as though it was toying with its prey. I backed away until my back went flush against the bank.
The steps were a few feet away from me but getting from here to there seemed nearly impossible without getting torn to pieces. Resigned to my faith I closed my eyes and turned my head away from the creature and the steps that showed false promise. The wolf-like creature sniffed the air around me as though I smelled delicious, it was so close to me I felt its body heat and breath on my wet skin however the creature didn't touch me.
I opened my eyes again and saw the creature bow? Was I seeing correctly or was I dead? Without thinking my right hand slowly moved on its own to touch the creature. My fear slowly left me when I noticed that the creature leaned into my touch. Before I knew it the creature bowed its head and backed away from me. Assuming he wanted me to leave, I did without question, knowing that this creature would not hurt me. After I got to the top of the bank I looked down to where we were, but to my surprise the creature was nowhere to be seen. After a shower and a change of clothes, I fell into a dreamless sleep."No let me!", "No me! ─" screech! Badong! I awoke to someone sobbing then quick movements across the room. "So, what do we have here?" all sobbing stopped and two frightened tiny faces looked up at me from the floor to where I sat on the bed. "Sorry did I scare you?" two pairs of bright green eyed children, one boy and one girl stared at me without a word." Are you hurt?" the little girl checked her elbows and knees before she looked at me and shook her head when she didn't find any bruises. Both kids stood up and dusted off their clothing. "I'm Elizabeth Figaro." She did a little curtsy. "And I'm Elliott Figaro" he also did a small bow "Nice to meet you Elizabeth and Elliott, I'm Malia Amari Valentina. Would you like to come and sit with me?" Both of them looked at each other with a grin then dashed to the bed. Elliott climbed up the bed with his momentum however Elizabeth is shorter than him which didn't do her momentum any good so I reached out to give her a hand up. "Thank you." She said while settling herself on the soft bed.
"You're pretty. Are you an angel?" she looked up at me with a breathtaking smile. "Thank you, you're also pretty but I'm not an angel." I chuckled. "So what brings you two to grace me with your presence?" They both shouted to me their reason for coming to me. “Uncle brainy wants to see you.” I looked at them puzzled. "Uncle Brainy? wants to see me?" I wonder who that could be. Then again I haven't seen anyone who lives here so that's understandable.
"Who is Uncle Brainy?" They both laughed "he's your father silly." Elizabeth said giggling, and then I heard a gasp from Elliott. "He doesn't like to be kept waiting." I looked at them with a priceless grin of my own "Really? then I guess he is going to have to wait a little because I just met my two new friends." They gave me two bright smiles that made my heart feel lighter than it felt in the past few days.
"You are late." Ryan didn't look up from reading the paper on his desk to know who was in his study. "Really, I hadn't noticed." I couldn't resist the urge to roll my eyes. "Have a seat." After I sat I noticed a small smile forming on his face however it was gone in an instant. "Today you will be shown around the castle,oh and do not enter the woods unguarded. Your training starts tomorrow at dawn. I will introduce your trainer at the memorial dinner tonight, I expect you to be there-" a short laugh came out of me, "With all due respect Sir. I won't be there so I'd really appreciate it if you didn't expect me to be there. Since you've finished speaking I'll be out of your hair." I was halfway out the door when I heard him laugh.Memorial DinnerThe day was long and dreadful, it felt like it would never end, then finally it was mid-day when I got to be on my own. Mia showed us around the castle and introduced us to the staff. She seems genuinely sweet, she even treats Aaliyah as her own daughter so it's futile to be mad at her.
I noticed a few minutes ago, Bruce taking Aaliyah down to the beach. Knowing that Aaliyah is still uncomfortable being around me I decided to be on my own however I couldn't stay in the castle any longer so I decided on a stroll. Something shifted in the woods but I didn't see what it was so I slowly advanced.
"Lia! Lia!" Elliott, and Elizabeth both ran towards me with bright smiles on their faces. "Lia let's play." Forgetting about the woods I spent the rest of the day playing with the cutest children I've ever seen. "Lia, are you going to dinner tonight?" Elizabeth turned to me with bright round eyes.
"I do not wish to go. What made you ask me?" I smiled and gently touched her nose which made her giggle. "I asked for Elizabeth and I to attend but uncle Brainy said we cannot because it will be past our bedtime." As much as I didn't want to attend the dinner, an idea came to me. For the sake of these kids I just couldn't let them go to bed with sulking faces...
I stood at the entrance of the dining room with the children both dressed up and excited to be attending the dinner. Elizabeth was wearing a pink dress and a paper crown I made for her and Elliott had worn a mini tuxedo made for his size. I noticed Mr. Jenkins, the butler, standing near the big Oak doors, whom I remembered from when Mia introduced us earlier today. He smiled at us and was about to introduce us. Before he could I whispered to him."Introducing Prince Elliott and Princess Elizabeth. Introducing Your Royal Highness, Princess Malia Amari Valentina." Hearing him introduce me like that made me feel insecure and agitated because everyone in the room looked directly at me. The children held on to my hand as though I was their life support. Realizing that they were just as scared as I was, I grabbed my courage by the tail and led the way inside.
As soon as I stepped inside my nostrils picked up on a scent I smelled just last night. But surely it was just my nerves. Spotting Bruce and Aaliyah speaking with a couple I didn't hesitate to go in their direction, unfortunately Elliott and Elizabeth had other plans for me. They dragged me to the opposite side of the room, away from Bruce and Aaliyah.
"Michael!" Elizabeth yelled with her tiny voice. Three gentlemen stood looking at us in the direction we were headed. Before I knew it, Elizabeth abandoned my hand and ran straight into the arms of the one she had called out to. Elliott on the other hand smiled brightly and led me to the small cluster of men."Your Highness" each man bowed their heads and said in unison. I however couldn't curtsy so I acknowledged them with a simple nod of my head and a simple hello. Elliott did the honors by introducing this little group."Mr. George Donovan" the gentleman to my left, "Mr. Hermoth Gillbirth" the gentleman to my right. "My brother and pack leader Michael Figaro"
The scent I smelled at the door was even stronger now, it was crushing my lungs, within seconds I felt Bruce by my side. "Gentlemen." I felt Bruce’s hands on my arm. “Please excuse us for a moment.” With the determination I heard in my brother’s voice my eyes widened and at that moment I made a double take. I turned and ran out the way I had just entered with Bruce on my heels.
As I got to the lawn in front of the castle, colours danced on my skin. My entire body was enclosed in a mixture of colours. “What…. Bruce, what’s happening to me?” Fear gripped me. My body was in a war with itself. My power was pushing but my conscious mind tried to contain it. “Malia, look at me.” Mia commanded. “Breathe honey, breathe. It’s ok. Stop fighting it. Everything is going to be alright. It’s ok to let go.” I shivered with the amount of power that felt like it would rip my insides out. By this time all who came to the memorial gathering were now surrounding me and looking on. “No! Get back! Get away from me please…..” I pleaded and fell to my knees on the cold hard groun
“This is Cayden Xalvador, warrior and protector of the throne. Xalvador, my daughter, Princess Malia Amari Valentina.” An involuntary groan sounded from my throat because of the introduction. I raised a perfectly arched brow “Mate?” My body tensed as I heard the sexiest sound I have ever heard. Mr. Xalvador groaned. He groaned and my body felt like it burned inside out. Cayden Xalvador opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out. He looked as though he was in agony. Beaded sweat was along his forehead. “Excuse me. We’ll meet again.” I was stunned for a moment when Mr. Xalvador practically ran out the door taking that sweet manly scent with him. There was pure silence for about a minute u
“None of you are allowed to be out of this castle without an escort.” Ryan exclaimed to my siblings and I. “We need to protect you from the Xaiden Clan. They aren’t like the vampires you’ve encountered on our way here. They are stronger, faster and are involved in mutations that are extremely… revolting.” Xaiden Clan? Where have I heard this name before? “What do you mean Xaiden Clan? How do I know that name?” Dad told us stories about the great underworld but I thought it was just bedtime stories to scare us. “Xaiden has been claimed to be the first vampire bloodline which are the original vampires since the beginning of time.” Ryan explained, “They live for thousands of years if they are not killed. Their strength and speed are immeasurable. The newborns were the ones you encountered on our way here. They are weaker and a
Mia granted my request to have Aaliyah and I separated, however what I didn't know was that Caden would be accompanying me as Mia assisted Aaliyah. We both sat in the waiting room or as Mia called it the parlour. ”Caden?” I said turning to face him. ”hmm” he was going through some kind of documents in his hands. ”Can I be absolutely honest with you?” He stopped what he was doing and looked directly into my eyes. ”Sure. I expect nothing less.” I fidgeted for a bit but it needed to be said. ”I… You scare me.” I blurted out and hung my head, not looking at him to get away from his alluring eyes. He was silent for what seemed like an eternity before he responded, ”what exactly scares you?” As he asked this I felt the seat next to me dip as I realized that he was now
That night I couldn't sleep again so I went down to the beach with a sheet, a basket of apples and a bottle filled with water. I laid myself and the basket on the now opened sheet on the sand. Listening to the wind and the waves crashing on the sand. Looking at the stars in the sky I tried to free my mind from everything I've been through for the past few days. How do I deal with a situation like this? I know running from it wouldn’t really help me but where do I start? How do I even begin? “Mom, dad, I need you. What advice would you give me?” I laughed a little as I remembered dad’s favorite words, “If life gives you lemons sweety, just make yourself some lemonade.” and mom would always tell me that no matter where I end up in life its my choice to be who I want to be, and if I fall no matter what, get back up, remember who you are and try again.
The meeting I asked Ryan to organise would start at 2:30pm as it gave everyone time to assemble. I invited Becca to accompany me to the meeting. I was a bit nervous but having her there made me a little comfortable as she was the only one I really knew. The three gentlemen whom I rudely interrupted the other day were there as well as Ryan and Caden. As Ryan was about to introduce everyone, I politely stopped him, “Good day gentlemen. Thank you for making time in your busy schedule to come today. Please have a seat.” no one sat except for Becca. I looked at Ryan and Caden who were also standing. Becca chuckled a little, “You know... they won't unless you do.” she said looking at me with amusement clearly showing on her face. Ryan gestured for me to sit in his seat behind his desk however I shook my head and sat next to Becca turni
That night after the meeting was another night of no sleep. Instead of roaming the castle or going to the beach I sat out by the balcony of my room overlooking a mass majority of clean cut lawn. There was a rounded glass top table with two identical wooden chairs on either side of the table. My mind roamed to my parents which caused my heart to ache. Silent tears fell as I remembered their faces and our happy and sad times together. I miss spending time with my siblings however it can’t be helped at this time. It’s hard dealing with our parents' death but for Aaliyah’s sake I can’t be around her. As my mind tried to reason with the pros and cons in my current situation. There was a sudden knock at the door. Thinking it might be Bruce coming to check on me, I wipe
The next day I had an appointment with Becca and Seghal. “Lia you're getting sloppy. Concentrate.” Becca and I were sparring with each other. Something we haven’t done for almost over two months due to exams, graduation and moving here. The first time I saw Becca’s strength was when she took down the class bully in just one swift move. I was in aww. She was strong, fast and heck she stood up to the fat guy who was three or four times her size and about ten times her weight. One steady uppercut under his jaw and he was down for the count. I practically begged her to teach me how to fight and she had. However, today, today I realized that she was holding back. I felt sore all over, and the worst part was, she was still holding back. Over the years she had gotten stronger and faster. “If you can’t hit me, block my attack and t
Becca joined in on the fight with Mr. Seghal against Malia using a ball of her fire power as Mr. Seghal tried to physically tackle her. Malia spun away from Mr. Seaghal’s close grasp as she used a ball of water bigger that Becca’s fireball which quenched the fire in mid air as she aimed it at Mr. Seghal. Before he could drudge the attack he was hit by the water ball. He was caught off guard and was now drenched. Aaliyah was frozen to the spot she was sitting. Becca was the second person whom she had ever seen use powers which were even similar to Malia’s. On the day they arrived at Vernon's cove, the flames that burnt the flesh of those vampires were blue, whereas the flames that Becca used were more an orange, red like color. Malia lost in the physical fight however she was not backed into a corner when the odds were against her
That night after Caden dropped me back to the castle I opened his black box. Inside was a single silver key. I held the key to examine it. To my knowledge it looked like a house key. Smiling, I placed it back in the box and kept it on the nightstand.I then opened the little bag that Miss Jouysena gave me. Inside was a little jade ornament that was the shape of a seahorse. It was just like the one I saw in her shop. I place the ornament in the palm of my hand admiring the beauty of it. Before I knew it the jade was glowing like the colours of the rainbow. Its shape had changed into a dragon. It slithered to my wrist, encircling it wrapping itself around my hand until it settled into a resting position. It was no longer jade but a type of silver metal or something that was now a bracelet. To be honest I was shocked, a bit scared
After leaving Jouysena’s, Caden took me to a remote place away from the village. He took me to his home near a lake. “Does jouysena live with you?”“No, but you're welcome to.” He said as he chopped up vegetables, teasing me.Caden decided to cook us dinner for our first date. I sat at the counter watching him at work as I kept him company. It’s not that I could not cook but Caden decided that he wanted to do something special for me before he left for his mission tomorrow.“You’re parents…what happened to them?” It was hard to ask but I did want to know. “Vampires. They attacked our village. My father was coming back from a search party when their group was ambushed. Mother was with me and my brother a
“I give up. I have absolutely nothing to wear. I can’t go with any of these.” I showed her the hopeless clothing I brought along with me from home. “What do I do Be?” I sank to the bed discarding the top I had in my hand to the rest of the pile on the bed next to us. The seamstress hadn’t finished making my clothes yet so what I came with is what I had to choose from which wasn't very much. There was a knock at the door when I dropped myself next to the pile laying on the bed in frustration. Becca went to see who it was looking at me with amusement which caused me to throw a pillow at her which she caught while sticking out her tongue at me. “Does someone need a little hand?” Mia asked, holding up a green tank top in her hands. My eyes opened wide as I sprang up to sit
