Chapter Thirty-two

Kendall’s POV

As Declan’s words hung in the air, I felt a surge of shock coursing through me. Leave the house? Leave the pack? It seemed incomprehensible, inconceivable even.

But looking into his eyes, I could see the firm seriousness there, the decision that wanted no argument.

“Why?” I managed to choke out, my voice trembling with disbelief. “Why are you asking me to leave?”

Declan’s expression remained impassive, his gaze never softening. “It’s for the best,” he replied tensely and looked away. “For both of us. Leave before sunrise.”

Tears gathered up in my eyes as I struggled to understand his words. Leave before sunrise? The thought sent a chill down my spine, filling me with a sense of dread. I couldn’t leave. I had nowhere else to go, no one else to turn to. And yet, Declan’s words brooked no argument.

“But where will I go?” I pleaded, desperation creeping into my voice. “I can’t go back to my father, you know that.”
