(FLASHBACK )

I heard the shattering of the window and my heart started pounding like a bass drum in my chest. Fear and panic coursed through my veins as I realized that someone had broken into our home. I quickly picked up the phone and dialed Cole, praying that he would answer.

"Cole, oh my God, someone broke into the house!" I exclaimed, trying to keep my voice low as I hurriedly made my way through the dark halls, trying to find a place to hide.

"What?! Elizabeth, are you okay?" Cole's voice was tense with worry, and I could hear the sound of him rushing around on the other end.

"I don't know, I don't know!" I replied frantically, my breaths coming in short, shallow gasps. "I'm trying to find a place to hide, but I don't know where to go!"

"Okay, okay, just stay on the line with me," Cole instructed, and I felt a small surge of relief at his calm and steady voice. "Can you see anything? Did you get a look at the intruder?"

"No, it's too dark, and they're wearing a mask," I whispere
