His words kept on ringing in my head, "You're ugly, you should feel lucky that someone like me chose you." Dumuzi's words had cut deep into my heart, the way he had mercilessly judged my body as I twirled and twisted to the music right in front of him. I lay thinking about what would happen at school.
Morning dawned in on the night and I still lay awake with no hint of drowsiness or fatigue. It's as if, my sadness had swallowed away all my sleep. I lay thinking about the boy who had taken my virginity. I wanted to get out of bed and start preparing for school but I found my self unable to find the zeal to perform that very simple action. My nerves were on edge. A certain embarrassment, fear, nervousness, unease or some similar feeling had settled in and lingered within me. I was deathly afraid of what everybody would think and say when they found out what Dumizi had done to me. My body was like my own secret shrine, my space that Dumuzi had maliciously invaded. I felt vulnerable at the thought of him exposing this secret of us doing the forbidden. I was horrified just imagining him telling his friends what I did, how I did it, the dance, my nakedness, If I had the choice and if it were that easy, I would have changed schools but this was my reality and I had to face my fears.
I got out of bed hesitantly. My body felt weak. I couldn't even dare to think of transfering schools because Mamilantis Academy was one of the most prestigious learning institute's in Atlantis that could be attended even be the middle class like me whose parents were blue collar workers struggling to make ends meet.
Word about my date with the infamous bad boy Dumuzi had circulated in the school like a bad virus during a pandemic. Word had gotten out as usual since people lived for gossip. That's what high school was all about, no wonder I didn't fit in. I found out the hard way as i stood by the lockers that morning preparing for my class, Carly, my bully walked by, and stopped. She greeted and smiled at me, something she had never done before. "Morning Anathi," she said politely. I felt uneasy. Mostly she would have shoved me against the lockers or she would have said something mean about me and her posse would have laughed at her unfunny jokes or she would have punched me hard in the face. She had done all this before not just to me but to other girls as well; even though bullying was strictly outlawed in the academy and only punishable through expulsion.
"Umm... Anathi, could you like come over tonight at my place, because my boyfriend needs someone to hook up with! Since you're like the school's tramp and all!" They all roared out in laughter as I ran to the bathrooms to cry my eyes out.
Later on that day, I would even be more heart broken at seeing Dumuzi with another girl. He had moved on. To him, i had become a memory, an unwanted bother he had to avoid, because when he met me in the school's corridors, he ignored me like I didn't exist. Like before when we hadn't gone on the date. He walked by me without paying me any attention as I stood there. It's not like I really wanted anything from him, its not like I expected him to talk to me, all I wanted to know was if the photos and video had been deleted. It wouldn't have hurt to just greet me either but he chose to treat me like I did not exist, I would later learn that he was not to be trusted. Have you ever walked through a place and felt like all eyes were on you? Like everybody was looking at you and judging you, like they knew something only you don't know. That's how I felt on that day at school. Some even greeted me like I was popular. I cringed at the thought of the reasons for my growing popularity. I was now officially considered a whore and everyone was talking about it. Soon all boys would seek me as their lover, just to have a fun night with me. I might have a chance at being popular because of him. My bad social credit would diminish, anything for my secret to be kept, I would have done. Even the most popular boy in the academy, the quiet one Mr know- it- all, Rydian, wanted to talk to me, he wanted to ask me out, and I actually liked this guy. Like i had mensioned It turns out he actually did not know what I looked like. So he sent over his friends to talk to me and take a picture of me, which they did after class.
"Rydian wants to meet you after school in the woods near the secluded ancient tombs of the Indi. " one of his friends Caleb said in a whisper as he stood with his arm around my waist. His eyes glowed a beautiful light green, his smile was charming.
"For what?" I said as they all gazed at me confused.
"For what?" He said as he looked at the others and they all roar out in utter laughter out of perplexity.
"Dont mind her, she tends to sound like an idiot sometimes when she is around handsome boys. She will definitely come!" My friend said as she blushed in front of them. I looked at her offended. There were three of his friends who had come to talk to me. I agreed to meet him at the place after school.
When i arrived I was disappointed to find no one. I thought they were playing a joke on me. I wanted to burst into tears, but then from the corner of my eyes I noticed them. The woods were wet, from the drizzling rain. The smell of wet grass, leaves and wet mud filled the air. My wolf senses picked up the smell of daffodils that stood planted near to the burial shrine, miles away from were i waited. This shrine was a place that people in my town commemorated for it held an important place in their hearts. Great ancient Atlantic kings were buried there and the place was secluded and guarded. From were I was at, I could sense the woods spread miles away until reaching the ocean. First I sensed the sound of their paws against the wet ground as they approached. Then I saw them, large grey and black wolves heading in my direction. Their fangs hung out of their mouths causally. I was scared. I climbed the tree I had been leaning on screaming and they stooped right below me and I watched i
My father had taken precaution in educating me about the types of werewolves there were. I noticed amongst Rydian's friends, one was a western wolf. Two were from southern clans. And the rest were northern wolves. They all differed in shapes, size colour and fur. That how one could tell.He layed it out on me easy , how Rydian had made a mistake by requesting me to come meet him. And one by one they all morphed into their wolf form they all left me as I watched them disappear on the horizon. Even my so called mate's best friend Caleb. He was disappointed by Rydian's behaviour so much as he had said he himself was when he gazed at my photo. He told me Rydian was angry, angry with me, angry with himself but mostly embarrassed that he ever considered someone like me and actually wanted me to be his girlfriend. He did not want anything to do with me. "You're not the kind of mate my friend was hoping to meet." He said. "The moment he layed eyes on a photo of yours we showed hi
He doesn't matter, they all don't matter, your high school enemies don't matter because the real deal is you going to university." She paused and continued. "Anathi, one day, when the time is right, you're going to meet the perfect one. And you'll know he's the one," my sister had said. My sister was dear to me and Hanna was her name. Hanna was about seven years older than me. When she was born there was much rejoicing. Our father, the alpha of our pack made it his obligation to inform each member in our circle of friends and family and concil that he had, had his first born child, his princess. When I was born seven years later, it was a memory my father did his best to hide and forget forever. A memory frozen in his cold icy heart. A memory that brought forth a tone of raging emotions within him causing him to lash out on me that I'd find my self kneeling in pain after being beaten profusely for silly little mistakes. . When I was born, it was a full moon. My mother , the luna, th
Welcome miss Kimuta!"She ushered me in with her hand. "Take a seat Anathi!"I sat hesitantly. I was scared. Deathly scared of what was to unfold before me. I sat shaking, oblivious to what she was about to utter. She sat ransacking the files on her desk."Well miss Kimuta, do you know why you're here! "She asked me with a serious look on her face."To le...lea...learn?!"I said in a shaky and intimidated voice. Even the Dumuzi who would have mocked me or chuckled at my discomfort sat obediently, without reaction at me stuttering in front of our academy's principal."I'm sorry what's that?"She said as if she didn't hear me! I was so scared I didn't dare repeat myself. She looked at me disappointed."You say you're here to learn yet I don't see you come to school to do what you are meant to do!"She said,"Pardon me ma'am, what do you mean by that?"I audaciously asked her. I was tired of being a pushover. I decided I wanted to be bold and confident. It was
"Was a bit tough in there aye mate?"Dumuzi smirked gazing in my direction while doing his arrogant walk. He was mocking me. "Could tell you were about to burst into tears kid!"He continued."She really put you in a tough spot didn't she? "I ignored him as I paced ahead of him in the corridor. "I'm surprised you didn't dare utter my name!"He tried to catch up to me. I mean you could have if you wanted. Or do you still want to meet up with me for a good time?"I was almost running while hugging my books headed for my locker which was on the second floor hallway. I could feel the warmth of my tears soaking up my rosey cheeks which were probably changing colour in embarrassment. I was about to climb down the stairs when I was suddenly grabbed by the shoulDer and pinned against the wall."Listen bitch! It's a good thing you didn't snitch on me! I told her about it to test you to see what you would do! At one moment I thought you were going to tell her!"He said his ch
Next day at school, I met Kairi but she ignored me. She did not even return my wave. I went to class dragging my feet, hesitating about my day now that I had even lost my best friend. "Look who it is, Anathi the whore!"My bully Carly began to say. "Tsk! Hi w that little whore business of ours going? Made enough for your college?"She smiled in glee as her posse roared out in laughter. I had had enough. I was tired, tired of her, very tired of being bullied. I bound my hands into fists, I was ready to attack her and rip her hair out. "Shut the hell up!"They all circled me. Laughing. "Oh look, the little whore wanna start a fight with us!"Carly's friend began to say as she slapped one hand in the other. They all began to cheer as they started up a mock fight.``Shut the hell up! I have had it with you."They all drew back in fear."Her eyes just changed colour! They are yellow!"One of the girls uttered as she shook. They all went quiet. I had never before fel
So, what made you decide to help me, after all you decided you did not want anything to do with me!"I asked her later on as we sat outside in the school yard."Well, I figured these were the last days of our schooling together and we have been best friends for a long long time, Anathi,"she said as she hugged me. "I wouldn't want our friendship to end like this, you know the moment he came to me and threatened to have my father lose his job if I didn't do what he asked, I was scared. He wanted me to break my friendship with you for good and also to bully you like everyone else, so that you don't have any friends left."She said,to my utter shock."Who?"I asked her, failing to comprehend her words that had seeped into the hollows of my ears."Dumuzi of course!"She said to me,"So Dumuzi did this? All this?"I uttered in a state of disbelief and suddenly all that had happened to me in my young life flashed before my very eyes. Sudde
After half an hour of torturing us they seemed tired yet unsatisfied. My brother lay in a pool of blood on the floor. He had stopped moaning and he was still."Please spare us!" My sister begged as she wept. "I have to take my brother to the hospital!""Hospital!" Hoe head chanted. "You think your brother's life is worth more than your sins? You still haven't told us yet who Anathi is. Is it the lass we tossed about!"My sister did ynot answer but wept even more, then she began to beg him to spare me."Your little sister here exposed our very sacred life to the mundane a and you expect us to save her life!" The leader said to my sister who was utturely engulfed in immense, tears."Hoe-head" he motioned to the guy who had blocked me at the gate. "Take the problem outside and get rid of it!" He said to my horror. My young life flashed before my eyes. I was shivering, scared. I would never have begged for my life though because
Chapter FifteenThe sun's rays lit up my room through splinters in my curtains at dawn and I found my self awake, awake with a heart too heavy to bear the burdens brought forth by yesterday's troubles. I lay staring at the ceiling and ruminating on what was to become of my young life. My father wanted me to go hide out in Egypt, to commence my life as a slave under the supreme pharoahnic rule as there was no hope and no abundance for Atlantis citizens like I in that land of the living deities. I was scared. I was afraid of the unknown. It was in that moment I gained a whim of courage ruminating on how I was going to face my problems that something suddenly happened. My sister knocked on my door, as if she knew I needed her in this bleak moment."Come in. I uttered."Wakey wakey, aren't you going to school today Anathi?"",School? I asked her. Where is dad and how can I be thinking of school when you know what happened with our brother. I
I slowly made my way back home through the forests, carefully. I did not want to get caught by any of those uncivilized council thugs incase they were searching for me. I then walked briskly afraid of the hollows that came with the night. The moon was high up in the night blueish- navy sky with a few stars twinkling in the distance. The forest was quiet, deathly and deafeningly quiet except for a few critters of the dark that haunted the peaceful night. The smell of the semi wet soil penetrated my nose. I was heaving with anger, with fear. Was my family okay? Had my sister really been ravished? How could my life have crumbled to this! That Dumuzi, I felt so much anger for him even though he was in prison. Suddenly, I felt a fear I had never felt before. My heart broke at the thought of my sister, and how those men must have treated her. Deep inside of me was a hesitating feeling urging me to turn back and not return home but I kept on on m
