“Are you sure about this, Madison?” Nancy, my foster sister held my hands and asked me for the umpteenth time, her voice trembled and her eyelashes damp with tears. I patted her back comfortingly trying hard to fight back my own tears. “Nancy, darling, I've made my decision and there's no turning back. I really have to do this for Addison,” I whispered, the weight of my decision pressing heavily on my chest. Despite knowing my life and career is at stake. I'm still not going to change the decision I've suddenly made. “Okay! Okay! But promise me you will call me if you need any help. And please, return back to us safely.” Nancy said, picking a wet tissue from her bag to wipe her tears. “I promise, I will return back home safely and be safe too” I pulled her into a tight hug feeling the weight of our parting. “Take care of yourself Nancy.” I whispered as the final boarding call reverberated through the bustling airport. I stood motionless with my heart shattered, watching her as she grabbed her suitcase disappearing into the jet bridge. She was returning back to Paris without me. We came to New York to meet Addison Smith, my twin sister after being separated for fifteen years. We used to be inseparable until we lost our parents in a fatal accident which claimed their lives, leaving us in the hands of different foster care. Luckily, I was adopted by the Spark family, Nancy's parents, who treated me as their own daughter. But despite their love, I still felt an emptiness in my heart without Addison. My foster parents and sister were of great help in searching for her over the years, and just a few months ago, we learned she was adopted by the Smith family in New York. I and Nancy looked up her name on social media and we finally found it. Strangely, I've been following all her social media accounts without knowing she was Addison. Her posts on her pages were always about her designs which made me attracted to her initially. She was indeed a great designer. She had this talent right from childhood and I learnt from her. Everything I know about jewelry designs was learnt from her during childhood. I sent her several messages and we cried for hours on video call after she got my messages. We finally reunited, we shared memories of our childhood. We spent a long time chatting on social media every single day. Those few months were my best months yet. She was already engaged and planning to get married soon. She promised to visit me in Paris after her wedding. I couldn't wait, I really missed Addison and was so eager to see her so I decided to give her a surprise visit in New York after getting details of her residence. My arrival was meant to be a surprise for her, but she gave me an unimaginable and unforgettable heartbreaking shock. **** Few days ago **** “I'll go with you Madison”, I heard Nancy's voice as she barged into my room with her suitcase. I was still packing a few things in my suitcase. “Really? How about work?” I asked her. “I've taken three consecutive days off work, so there's no problem” She whispered, helping me with my packing. Soon, we were done packing and we immediately caught our flight. Not too long after, we arrived in New York City. We took a taxi and headed to Addisons residence. I checked a picture on my phone to be sure the building we were in matched the one she had once sent to me. “Yeah! We got it Nancy!” I whispered excitedly. We pulled our suitcase and dragged them gently into the only apartment in the building. Strangely, we found the entrance door open. My heart sank with a bad feeling and I called her phone, the ring tone could be heard from inside her room so we walked in. The room smelled musty and the only sound was the creaking rope. “Addison!” I shouted as I slammed the door to her room shut after Nancy entered. The grin on my face, spreading ear to ear. She was in an heartbreaking position. She was suspended in mid air with a rope choking her neck. I blinked, trying not to believe what was going on. Everything around me paused. "N-no" I whispered, my stiffened cry making me stutter. I watched as her feet dangled in the air. I couldn't comprehend what was going on. My heart pounded as I rushed to untie her and placed her on the floor, trying to speak life into her. I sniffled. "Add-i-son" She didn't even move. I yelled and cried but her soul turned a deaf ear. “She's dead.” Nancy said to me after observing her. I would never be able to comprehend the fact that she was gone. “No, no, she can't be gone. She promised to never leave me!” I brought my trembling hands to feel her now pale face, the same face that used to be bright. Her eyes were half opened, the light blue color now in a darker shade. I just couldn't take it anymore. The same face that used to smile at me, was now pale. The same eyes, now dark and half closed!!! I wiped my hand over her face to close her eyes, still in disbelief. “How?” “Why?” “I thought she was just enjoying life?” “Why did she take her own life with her own hands? What could have gone wrong?” Those were the questions I asked myself hoping to get an answer. I grabbed her phone and unlocked it. I wanted to call her fiance. But I halted when I noticed a note on the bed. I picked it and it was her handwriting that was inscribed on it. Addison never told me about anything she was going through before we reunited. I thought she was living a luxurious and peaceful life just like myself, but I was wrong. She had kept all her struggles hidden from me, leaving behind only a diary that contained everything she had gone through ever since she was adopted by the Smith family and a note explaining her decision to end her own life. As I read her final words, a piercing pain swept through my heart. “I’m sorry sister, I can't move on, please live the life I couldn't live.” Determined to avenge my beloved sister's death, I decided to assume her identity to exact vengeance on those who had wronged her.Today marks the beginning of my new life, a life full of well arranged plans- plans made out of grief and the burning desire for revenge. I glared at the reflection of myself in the glass door of the luxurious restaurant, my heart pounding with fear. I looked so much like Addison Smith, whose identity I just assumed. Few weeks ago, I was still my real self, Madison Spark, a great designer whose dreams could not be crushed in a night. But fate has decided to play a brutal game. Losing my beloved twin sister left my uncrushable world and dreams shattered. With a deep breath to steady my nerves, I pulled down my simple yet elegant blue gown below my knees. I walked delicately into the restaurant where only the clinking of glasses and soft murmurs of people filled the air. My gaze fell on two people chatting merrily at a corner in the restaurant. I felt as though my heart was going to fall out of my chest, my legs became weak but I never planned on showing my weakness before them.
“Uhn…” my eyes widened with my eyebrows raised. I froze momentarily reflecting what I've just heard. It was just like an order from him, his voice was domineering. “Bu...t… B… I stammered, unable to find the right words. I don't even know this man and he wants me to marry him. Isn't that crazy? “Relax, I'm not attracted to you, it's just a contract marriage. I need a wife to avoid an arranged marriage with someone I do not love and you wanna get back at them, yeah? I will let you make use of my resources to have your revenge and we can get divorced after then. So it's a win-win.” He explained. “You are so calculative, who do you think you are?” I scoffed, regaining some of my composure. “I'm Brandon Ford.” He replied. “Brandon Ford? Isn't that the name of the Ford's group CEO?” I mumbled. “Yes, and you are?” He asked coldly. “M…Madison” I stammered. “Madison? I was sure I heard them call you Addison.” Brandon Ford said calmly. “Oh, yeah! Addison Smith was wh
I slept off without having dinner. I was so tired that I forgot that I didn't eat all day. Brandon Ford had come to check on me before going to bed, he saw that I was fast asleep and didn't want to interrupt my sleep, so he left. The rays of sunlight directly shone on my face, I wearily opened my eyes and saw that it was morning already. Soon, I heard a knock on the door “if you are awake, come to the dining for breakfast”, I heard the domineering voice and knew who it was immediately. “Why does he care?” I muttered. I had my bath and wore a simple dress. I went to the dining room and met Brandon Ford at the diner, almost having his breakfast. “Good morning Mr Brandon” I greeted. “Good Morning Miss Addison," Brandon Ford replied coldly. Just then, my phone rang and I picked my phone to see the caller, I hissed after seeing that it was Anna, Annie's grandma. After a glance from Brandon, I reluctantly picked up “what do you want?” I asked coldly. “I see you've grown
Brandon Ford stood up not minding Joanna Williams who was still standing. He walked towards the door and called Leo “Get Nathan to the mansion now he ordered.” Nathan was his childhood friend, they grew up together before he became a medical doctor while he took over the Ford's group as the heir. He was about to step out of his office when he remembered that Joanna was still standing in his office, he turned back and said “if I step out now leaving you behind, you might remain trapped here till tomorrow.” Joanna Williams gave him a side glance before walking out of the office. Brandon Ford locked his office and took the elevator, as soon as the elevator opened, he stepped out and walked towards his car. He ordered his chauffeur to drive him to the mansion. Leo called Brandon Ford and told him that Nathan was already in the mansion and Addison was now okay. He heaved a sigh of relief after hearing that she was already okay. After putting on the dress, I looked at myself in the mirror and felt captivated for a moment. The dress brought out all my curves, I naturally had a good shape. I wore high heels and put on a set of jewelry that I brought out from my bag which made me more charming. I stepped out of my room and walked elegantly and delicately downstairs. Brandon was downstairs too busy with his phone but was stunned when he raised his head and saw the woman coming. He didn't expect me to look this gorgeous. He stood up and ordered his chauffeur to drive me to the banquet. He went to the company immediately. I arrived at the Smith's castle but was still sitting in the car. The entrance of the castle had been occupied by luxury cars. The Smith's family is also one great family in New York, so I had expected that a lot of important guests would be present at the banquet. There were dozens of media reporters present too. Annie Smith was seen at the red carpet holding hands with Daniel Wilson. Wav
Chapter 7Annie's eyes widened in disbelief. “What!?” her mouth drops open.Annie couldn't ignore the feeling that I'd somehow changed. She just couldn't lay her finger on what had changed about me. After all, she had grown up together with Addison and she had always been fighting for everything that was supposed to be hers but no matter what, Addison was always leaving some room for her. But this time, she could feel my hostile attitude towards her. She had no choice, she would have to do whatever I asked her to prove to the guests that she was sorry. “Forget it if you don't want to give up your shares, I'll let the law handle this,” I said, turning around to take my leave. Annie became scared when she heard the law. She wondered if I was going to sue her. She can't let this happen, it will be the end of her. She cursed under her breath. “No, no, sis! I've committed a grave offense to you, I will give up my shares even though it isn't enough to earn your forgiveness.” Annie said,
