I saw the color drain from Cora's face and how shocked she looked. What I had thought would be a happy dinner for her had suddenly turned into an unhappy one.

I became angry. If only my mom had mentioned that Lisa and her mom would also be present, I would not have brought Cora with me.

I felt her body stiffen and she tried to pull her hand away from my hold but I wouldn't let her.

I could also see the look of shock on my sister's face. It was obvious that she had initially taken a liking to Cora but that changed really quickly. She had never liked Lisa and always told me in the past that Lisa had me wrapped around her finger which was something she found upsetting.

The expression on my dad's face had also changed to one of irritation, seeing that Cora's and my fingers were still intertwined together.

I led Cora to the dining when everyone began to take their seats. As she sat beside me, I briefly squeezed her hand in comfort, hoping that it would make her feel better.
