Chapter 2: Pregnant

LEAH

I WOKE UP with ragged breathings. As my eyes scanned the room around, I realized that I was in an unfamiliar room lying in this huge queen-sized bed. But before I could even try to sit up, the pain all over my body came crashing. My bones felt too weak, and my body feels very sore.

There was also an excruciating pain on my head. But one thing that made me bawl my eyes wide open was the soreness on the area between my thighs.

I gazed at my body that was filled with red marks and bruises all over. My throat tightened as I feel the loud beating of my heart as I felt my world stop.

Then my jaw dropped open. My body turned stiff as if I was suddenly poured by cold water all over as the events from last night came crashing back inside my mind.

‘Have I done the deed with those two men last night?’

I had the urge to slap myself. But then, the evidence can be clearly seen from my body’s current state.

There was no trace of other presence in the room, signifying that I’ve been left alone in here for a long time already. I don’t even know how long I’ve been actually staying here.

Disregarding the pain on my body, I scrambled my way out of the bed, my cheeks burning when I saw the red marks of blood on the bed sheets.

Damn, I really did it with them.

I shook my head. Still couldn’t believe that I just lost my virginity last night. But I couldn’t change this fact anymore. It’s just feels so perplexing thinking that I really had sex with not just one but two complete strangers!

In fact, it was odd thinking how I managed to catch the attention of those two when I was way too unattractive to be noticed. From my hazy memory, those two were actually too stunning and they look like they could get any woman they want.

Hudson and Brixton. I only knew their name. Who knows if they were also their real names or they were just fooling around with me?

----

“I’m gonna be charging extra if we take the other route.” The uber driver told me.

I just nodded my head at him, too tired and weak to speak out loud. I would only be more exhausted if we kept waiting for the long traffic jam ahead.

But who would’ve thought that this decision of mine would suddenly lead to an unfortunate incident?

Just a few minutes after taking another route, a dump truck who had lost its break headed towards our lane. Luckily, the uber driver had managed to turn the wheels to avoid the huge truck, but we were still unfortunate to hit a post.

“Fortunately, you only got minor injuries.” The doctor who was checking my injuries stated. “It didn’t affect the babies, you just need to be more careful in the future and take care of your body to avoid future accidents.”

The doctor was speaking in a calm manner, but her words were enough to send me my whole world crumbling down.

For a moment, I couldn’t believe what I just heard. “W-what did you just say?”

“I said, you need to take extra care in the future as to protect the babies inside your stomach. You were lucky enough this time that your injuries weren’t serious.”

My body froze. The doctor looked extremely calm announcing those words. But I couldn’t believe my ears.

“I’m pregnant?” I questioned in disbelief, feeling stiff all over.

The doctor finally seemed to notice my reaction. Her eyes looked sympathetic for a moment before she flashed me a gentle smile. “Yes dear. Based on the tests we conducted, you are indeed two weeks pregnant.”

I kept persuading myself that the doctor was only playing pranks on me. But still noticing my disbelief, she asked me whether I wanted to take another test to confirm my pregnancy. And after waiting for another half hour, the result was still positive.

My body felt too weak and tired from processing all this information in one go. Me, getting pregnant this fast was way too odd, and the doctor couldn’t also explain herself what had just happened.

Yes, I was aware that a shewolf’s reproduction is indeed fast. But I didn’t expect it to be ‘this’ fast! How could I even get pregnant when I had only lost my virginity last night?!

I was feeling so lost and full of doubts. At that day, my world had turned upside down.

FIVE YEARS LATER

“Everyone, after months of hard work and preparation, let’s congratulate ourselves for the successful operation of this project.”

A round of applause echoed in the room as we all clapped our hands. I was wearing a smile on my lips, feeling the relief and fulfillment seeing the smiling faces of my workmates. Just a week ago, our company has finally managed to secure a partnership with The Finance, the most successful and thriving enterprise here in B City.

It enabled us to immediately fund our project and reach to potential users and benefactors. Our months of hard work and preparation have indeed pay off.

“Most importantly, I would like to thank one of our most dedicated comrades, Ms. Knight, for her huge contribution on this project.” Marina, our team manager raised her wine glass at me.

“It was all nothing without our team.” I smiled and also raised my glass before drinking.

It has been four years since I started working in the company. I was assigned under the marketing department as a newbie that time. And I was truly grateful to have Marina as my team manager during these years as she was all I could ever wish for a manager to be. She also helped me during the most critical moment of my life when I had no one to rely on but myself.

“Will you join the party later?” Jenny, one of my closest workmates asked.

I looked down at my watch. Seeing that it was already past the quarter of four in the afternoon, I gently shook my head at her.

“Alright, we’ll let you off this time. But don’t forget that you need to attend our company’s annual ball next week.” She patted my shoulder.

“Don’t worry, I will.” I laughed lightly before finally excusing myself to leave.

Sighing in relief, I got in my car and started driving home. Along the way, I bought two cakes with different flavors, smiling while thinking of the little buns waiting at home.

Our unit was located on the 8th floor of our apartment building. I was holding the boxes of cake on both hands and decided to just ring the doorbell. But the door immediately went open before I could even do that.

“Mommy!!”

My heart was soon filled with warmth upon seeing the three little buns waiting for me at the doorway.

They are the very reason why I had always wanted to go home early. My three babies.

It was never planned, but I never once regretted giving birth to them four years ago. They have been the angels of my life.

“I miss mommy,” Bella, the youngest one among my triplets hugged my waist affectionately. Her beautiful big and innocent eyes stared up at me which made my heart swell. She had been the most clingy one among the three, but I have no complaints.

“Mom, we’ll take it.” Calvin, the oldest among the three took one box of the cake, followed by Clyde, who was the second to be born.

The two were handsome little boys who resembles each other for almost all points, except the color of their eyes and their personalities. Calvin had grey eyes, and being the oldest one among the three, he always acts sweet and responsible, but often carries an air of seriousness around him.

On the other hand, Clyde has dark blue ones and more playful than Calvin, but he always follows latter and imitates his brother’s actions.

“Mom, guess who I am?” Clyde energetically trotted in front of me and placed his hand on his hips while raising his chin up. I chuckled at his cute pose.

“Oh my, isn’t this the very famous Mr. Superman?” I pretended to cover my lips in shock. “Are you here to protect us from the villains?”

Clyde proudly nodded his head. “Yes, I am, mom!”

I pinched his cheek in amusement, before I felt a pull on my skirt. “Mommy, carry…”

I crouched down to carry my little princess. Though Clyde and Calvin were already able to pronounce and speak words straight, Bella can only speak some few words. But it didn’t matter for me. They were just four years old children, though the boys often display an odd sense of smartness and maturity, especially Calvin.

“MOM, did you know?” Clyde pulled my sleeve as I was combing Bella’s hair.

We were getting ready for bed yet the little one’s energy is never ending. I smiled. “What is it, darling?”

“I think brother is suited to be an actor.” He crossed his arms on his chest while looking at Calvin who was playing something on his tab on the bed.

I raised my brows at him. “Oh really, why do you think so?”

“This afternoon, we saw someone who looks exactly just like him on TV!”

An odd feeling suddenly rose in my heart.

“It’s true, mom!” Seeing me grew silent for a moment, his tone suddenly turned somewhat serious as he tried to explain. “I think he also looks like me, but he was way more similar to brother! They have similar eyes!”

“It’s grey!” Bella, who was sitting on my lap, also spoke beside me excitedly.

My heart skipped a beat and my palms suddenly turned sweaty.

“See mom? Bella also saw it.” Clyde raised his chin in pride. “Brother is really suited to be an actor, but he looks really uninterested. I told him earlier, but I can’t persuade him.”

My eyes travelled towards my other boy, he was frowning while hearing his brother’s remark.

“He was not an actor. Just on the news.” There was something on my son’s tone that made me somewhat nervous.

Does the man they’ve seen on TV really look like him? Was it just a coincidence or could it possibly be…

“Brother… handsome, like man on TV!” Bella giggled sweetly while clapping her hands at Calvin

“I’m handsome too, right sister?”

“Alright, you boys are the most handsome, while our little princess is the prettiest one.” Deciding to put aside all thoughts that were bugging me, I carried the giggling Bella towards the bed with Clyde following behind.

~~~
“Mom…” Bella snuggled towards me. The triplets were already asleep. It was already midnight, yet something was irking me out, and I couldn’t find myself to sleep. My wolf has been also on edge.
I stared at my babies. They were the most precious gifts I ever had and all this time I keep doing my best to provide all their needs and give them the best life. But I know that there was one thing I keep failing to give them.
Though they never once mentioned the whereabouts of their father. I can still sense their curiosity each time they watch TV and witness those complete families in movies, especially the boys. With their level of smartness, I knew that they already have ideas about what a father should be.
But I couldn’t give them that, not at the moment. I don’t even know when exactly… Or if I’ll be able to do that.
After moving to this country, I have decided to forget my past. Yet I know that it was also my responsibility to at least… introduce them to their father.
But until now, I definitely have no idea about the identities of those men I spent night with. And about the man they mentioned seeing earlier… I inhaled deeply. The chances are at odd.
THE NEXT morning was supposed to be a weekend bonding for our little family, yet a sudden call from Marina has suddenly interrupted my supposed-to-be free day.
“You know Mr. Lim, right? He is the director of The Finance and he’s requesting for a representative from our company to discuss some matters.” Marina informed me on the line. “However, I’ve also got a very important matter to attend to today, and you’re the first person who came to my mind.”
Looking at the cute little kids who were obediently sitting on the couch, I felt quite distressed. They were all dressed up and were only waiting for me to end this call, their expectant eyes tell me how eager they were to finally go out.
“You’re the only one I can count on with this matter, dear.”
I pursed my lips and sighed before finally agreeing with Marina. Besides, it would be bad for our company’s image if we messed things up regarding our partnership with The Finance, especially now that we’ve just currently sealed a contract with them.
“Alright, I’ve got this one.”
Marina expressed her thanks on the phone before hanging up. I turned to walk towards my kids and forced a smile on my lips.
“It’s alright, mom.” Clyde spoke as he jumped down the couch.
“Careful,” I hurriedly grabbed his arm to prevent him from stumbling.
“We can go tomorrow then?” He continued to speak while smiling cheekily at me.
I smiled and ruffled his hair, turning to look towards Calvin who was also smiling obediently at me.
“Ride! Ride!” Bella excitedly exclaimed making me sigh.
“I’m so sorry, darling.” I crouched down before kissing her cheeks. “Mommy will make it up with you, alright?”
THE TALL skyscraper of the building in front of me made me feel awe for a moment. The building I guess contains 50 floors at the very least seeing how tall it was. It looks very lavish and expensive seeing the glass walls shining brilliantly under the sunlight.
Before I knew it, one of the staff was already leading me inside the building and I suddenly had an unknown indescribable feeling upon entering.
It’s as if something’s going to happen…
