Two weeks later

Despite his relentless efforts to track down whoever had poisoned Eds, Sinjin couldn’t find the culprit. His parents offered no help, so he decided to visit Mallucia to question her about her conversation with Eds.

Sande had suggested that Mallucia might be the attacker, but like his father, Sinjin didn’t want to believe that the woman he’d once been childhood friends with could harm anyone.

While Mallucia was known for her sharp tongue, capable of inflicting damage with words alone, Sinjin realized he didn’t know the adult Mallucia and how much she might have changed.

"Sinjin? What a surprise," Mallucia remarked as she opened the door. "Come in."

Sinjin stepped into the apartment, and she closed the door behind him, leading him into the living room. Although this wasn't his first time there, something felt different.
