Chapter Eighty Nine

"Hey, Edselyn." Sinjin sighed as he left a message on her voicemail. "I don't know what to say except that I'm very sorry. I'll understand if you don't want to see me anymore, but please don't take the boys away from me too. Please."

A knock came at the door, and Sande entered his office, placing some documents on his desk. She noticed the sorrowful look on his face.

"You okay, boss?" she asked.

Sinjin rubbed his eyes to keep the tears at bay. He knew Sande would be furious if she knew what he'd done, that she’d hate him for hurting Eds and never forgive him.

"Sinjin?" Sande asked again, her voice filled with concern.

Sinjin opened his mouth to explain, but thought better of it and closed it again. "I'm fine," he lied, offering a smile. "I just had a terrible night, that's all."

"Eds told me she was going to meet you. Did you two talk?" Sande asked curiously.

"I didn’t see her," Sinjin replied, feeling guilty for the lie. "Maybe later."
