Sixty-Nine

Gypsy sat still by the window. She was staring into the garden but she wasn't really seeing anything. Her mind was devoid of every thought, her brain devoid of every emotion.

She just felt numb.

And she liked it that way, because she knew that once the numbness wore off, what would replace it would be an excruciating pain.

Pain from everything that had happened in just a few hours.

They'd just returned from Dante's funeral and Enzo had immediately retired to his study. Gypsy hadn't stopped him. She'd turned her emotions off and didn't want it to be turned back on.

Now she realized how wrong she was. This wasn't only about her. She should've thought about Enzo too. He'd gone through so much, and it was all her fault.

“Ma'am.” A voice said behind Gypsy in an Italian assent just as she was about to get up.

She stood up and turned to face the speaker. It was one of Enzo's men. Her heart skipped a beat because the man was the one in charge of locating the warehouse where Zeke had been kept
