“It's getting late. I have to go now.” Gypsy announced, slowly rising as she placed the cup of coffee back on the saucer after taking a few sips on Rita's insistence.

“Going?” Rita grimaced, getting up as well. “Dear, from everything you've told me, it doesn't look like you have a place to stay. And I'm sure you wouldn't want to go back to that man.”

Gypsy bit away the sting hearing Enzo's name brought and sighed. “No I'm not, but I can't just impose on you like that. I have some money in the bank and I'll just go and rent a small apartment.”

“At this hour of the night?” Rita looked at her like she was out of her her mind before taking Gypsy's hand into hers. “Look, girl. I'm just an old woman living in this big house. I have a grandson but he lives and works in California and it can get extremely lonely around here. I'd love for you to stay here.”

“I don't need your pity.” Gypsy said perhaps more sharply than she'd intended.
