19: I’M SO SORRY, I OVERSLEPT

“Oh… hi” I said as I sat up from my bed.

“I called you earlier”

“Yes I know, my secretary told me,” he said.

“Ohh okay” I said.

After this, everywhere became silent. We both didn’t say anything over the phone, probably waiting for who to talk first.

I laughed at that thought.

“So i___” I said, not even able to complete my sentence as I was interrupted.

“Can we talk?” He said over the phone.

“In person or right now?” I asked.

“In person” he replied almost immediately, like the idea of talking over the phone was a stupid thing to begin with.

I gave a little giggle at the thought.

“Are you laughing at me?” Ethan asked.

“Of course not,” I said as I immediately stopped giggling.

“Alright get ready in the next thirty minutes, i am sending my men over to come pick you up, send me your address after we are done with this call” he said.

Men? What did he mean by men? I was well able to go out on my own. I don’t need an escort.

“Wait, wait, wait. Hold on a second, what do you mean by men picking me up? I have legs you know right?” I said as I looked down at my legs wondering if they weren’t working.

There was silence over the phone, then came a laugh. A really really loud laugh.

Was he laughing at me? Oh so now he is making fun of me?

“Are you laughing at me?” I asked.

“No, no I’m not” I heard him say.

“Look, I know you have legs, I have seen you before. I just want you to be comfortable, so yea, my men will pick you up in thirty minutes” he said.

There was silence for a while, before I finally said something.

“Okay fine” I agreed.

“Yes,” he said.

“See you in a few minutes,” he said.

“Yes, oh wait, where exactly are we meeting__” i said, but i never got a response, he had already ended the call before i was able to pass my message across.

“Well that was nice” I said as I placed the phone on my bed.

I laid back down, raising the soft blanket up to my chest.

I felt so tired, like I had done a bunch of work today.

“I’m just going to sleep for ten minutes” I said as I yawned.

“Just going to close my eyes and wake up in ten minutes”

“I’ll quickly prepare when i wa___”

The ringtone from my phone woke me up. I groaned as I felt a splitting headache.

I stretched my hands through the bed, looking for my phone.

“Has it been ten minutes already?” I said, my eyes still closed shut trying to reboot.

I got a hold of my phone, and I finally opened my eyes to check the time.

“Oh shit” I said as I sprang out of the bed.

I looked at my phone, and my eyes widened in shock.

I slept for an hour??

I looked at my notifications, and my heart immediately dropped to my stomach. I had thirty missed calls from a particular number. I knew the number was for Ethan, and i knew i had fucked up.

“Oh no no” I said as I looked around, confused at what I was even supposed to do.

I didn’t even know what I was supposed to wear. How did I even sleep for one hour??

Oh no no, I am sure I had kept him waiting.

I quickly dropped my phone on the bed and ran into the bathroom, to take a quick shower.

When I was done I came out.

I walked to my wardrobe and opened it and I stopped in my tracks.

Wait a minute, what was I even supposed to wear?

Oh my, I didn’t even know.

I searched through my clothes looking for something good and presentable to wear.

I brought out a black baggy top and joggers.

“Nah this is not it, too casual” I said as I threw the clothes on my bed.

I searched through again and found a gown.

“Too formal, i am not going for an interview”

I had gone through about five wears and was already giving up when I sighted one.

It was a very beautiful gown with floral prints.

My eyes lightened in excitement. I quickly brought it out, admiring the beautiful design.

A call came in interrupting my thoughts. I walked over to my bed and picked up my phone, it was an unsaved number. I picked it up.

“Hello,” I said.

“Hello ma’am, may we have the address to your house, boss asked us to pick you up” he said over the phone.

Oh yes, I totally forgot I had not even given them my address.

“Ohh yes yes” I said as I called out the address.

“Okay ma’am, we will be there in ten minutes” he said as he ended the call.

I dropped the phone down and began to dress up. I quickly fixed up my hair and did a little make up to hide my under-eye bags.

By the time I was done, I walked out of my apartment and there was a car parked right outside.

I walked over and two men came out. One of them opened the door for me, while the other one just stood.

I entered the back seat, and the ride began. It took about twenty minutes before we could get to the destination. I came out of the car, and I was immediately mesmerized by the aesthetics of where we were. It was a really beautiful and luxurious restaurant. I was so thankful that I didn’t go for that baggy top and joggers.

The two men walked towards me and urged me to go inside.

I took a deep breath as I took a step.

I walked into the restaurant and I was immediately greeted by the rich air.

I searched around, and I sighted Ethan.

I walked over to him and he stood up from his seat.

He gave me a hug, then released me and pulled out a seat for me.

I gave him a smile as I sat down. He took a seat right after, giving me a soft smile.

“I’m so sorry, i overslept” i said, immediately he took a seat.

“Oh, that okay” he said almost immediately.

“So about the whole situation regarding the marriage stuff” i said.

“Ehm, how about we talk about that after we eat, the waiters are bringing the food out now” he said as he looked over to where the waiters were coming out from.

It felt like he was trying to avoid the conversation, but i just didn’t say anything anymore.

“Oh okay let’s do that” i said.
