Yes, it looked just like this. That day.

The tethers of a memory tugged at the back of my mind, dragging me back to a point of time I didn’t want to remember. My parents took us, me and my little brother, to camp out by the stream. His name was Lucas. Young, that’s what we were. We were just pups, after all.

Lucas and I laid comfortably on the grass. My mother was cooking barbecue on the grill while my father headed out to get us some firewood for the night.

Our lives were simple. We lived a life on the run. But at least, we had something pack members could only dream of—freedom.

And at least we’re together. That’s all that mattered.

Lucas got up and suddenly poked me on the ribs, giggling.

“Oh, yeah? How you like that?” I poked him on the

CHAPTER THIRTY-TWOCasey’s POVThe books I have read about werewolves and the wonderful ways the so-called mate bond worked slammed hard into the forefront of my mind. I recall Danny’s words, how I myself have the blood of a werewolf with my father’s genes mixed in my DNA, which meant I could probably harbor abilities any werewolf could have. But who am I kidding? I was still half-breed.“Hey there,” a soft, feminine voice ushered me out of my thoughts.I looked up to see a petite girl with white hair and silver eyes smiling down at me. Large boobs bounced in front of me as she shifted on her feet, hand on her hip. I think she’s one of the trackers.Yes, she is. I confirmed after taking in her attire. But why is she talking to me?My head turns from side to side, making sure I am the only one seated on the log.Seeing as there was no one other than me, I hesitantly lifted my gaze to her.“Me?” I asked. The girl’s smile widened, “Yes, you. I heard.” Then her smile faded, “You’re that t

She then sips, her eyes going wide the next moment.“Ohh that hits the spot,” she moaned, handing the ladle back to me.I smile, “I’m glad you like it,”Deep inside, I was rather nervous. I haven’t cooked this much food in a while. I’m not sure if it tastes any good.Nita thinks so. That’s a good sign, right?“Now, let’s see what the others think, shall we?” she tossed me a wink, and I gulp.My mouth shaped into an ‘o’ as I saw her pick up the hot, boiling pot with her bare hands, about to serve it to the others.“Wait!”Nita halts, looking over at me. Her brow raised, while my teeth clamp down my lower lip.“What if he doesn’t like it?” I asked shyly, gripping the hem of

My heart thumped faster looking into those beautiful pair of eyes. Yet I still couldn’t believe he was a rogue.“This is not the time for you to gossip. Head back and gather with the others.” He clearly instructed. Nita swallowed, about to tug

I’ve been wanting to introduce since the first time I laid eyes on you,” he said, tilting his head to the side, watching me with a curious gaze in his eyes. It was starting to make me feel uncomfortable.“Yeah, I’m Carlos’ mate, by the way,” I admitted, not sure why I blurted it out, but for the moment, it felt necessary. He smirked, “We all know that,”I let out the breath I’ve been holding since he arrived.“

Oh you’ve got to be kidding me.“I’m not riding with him,” I say, but Danny gives me a firm look that told me I would be given absolutely no choice.“You are, and you will. Theorem here is one of the best trackers other than that…” I shot a look at Danny, causing him to hesitate on what he was going to say.“Anyway, I think the two of you could get along well together,” Danny beams, nudging me towards Theorem who winks at me with a sly smile plastered on his face.“Danny, I am not here to find a mate. I have one already, and you are not here to play matchmaker for me,” I linked Danny, who replies with a disapproving look on his face.“You mean cooking that delicious soup to grab his attention is not part of why you’re here?” Danny raised a brow at me, and I glared at him for saying that out loud, which had Theorem perking up in interest. “I know what you’ve been trying to do, Casey.” He adds, “I am very disappointed in you,”The

Bargaining off his life just like that, is he insane? My uncle is a no-joke serious type of man, and I’m quite sure he will stick to his word even if it meant life or death.“Casey,” The sound of my name being voiced by none other than him had my mind trapped in a loop, spinning in circles.“Huh?” I turn slightly, still with my eyes shut as I tried to navigate my way around here.“You can open your eyes now, Casey.” He linked me. My arms are stretched out as I tried to feel around my surroundings. Still, I refuse to open my eyes.He might still be naked. And I don’t think I can handle seeing him like that without passing out, at least once.“No,” It was all I could afford to croak out.“It’s safe. CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHTCasey’s POVIt was not long after I felt that twinge of pain that quickly intensified to an unbearable point that I felt my ass hit the ground. Hard. I know it was because it created a loud thud that made Carlos’ wolf along with the others skid to a stop. Turning their gazes towards me, they all freeze to see me rolling on the ground before I reach an inertia, and I lay limp on the cold ground.I curled up into a ball, having no idea why I suddenly feel so freezing cold. It’s strange, and my senses blocked out my surroundings, yet I was still conscious of what was happening all around me.Wrapping my arms around myself, I could feel the sound of footsteps drawing near me. It made me wonder just how many of them shifted into their human forms because of this.“Casey?” Danny’s voice echoed in my head, I could sense his panic, fear, and anxiety all mushed up into one.Huh? Strange… Why do I feel the air shift even when someone nearby makes the slightest movement? I c

It’s pitch-black. Looking down, it seems as if I am stepping on air.‘Because you are not ready,’ she says, and I cock a brow despite facing no one in this shallow darkness.‘You are here, deep in the subconscious of your mind, Cassandra,’What she said caught me right off guard.‘You know my real name?’ I never even told her that, or anything for the matter, thinking she was probably a figment of my imagination I have conjured due to stress.‘Of course, I have known you since you were little,’

Casey's POVThe Alpha led the way, and I followed closely behind him. Right now, we're back at the dungeons. The cells. How the hell did he get himself locked up back in here? He agreed to do the mission in exchange for freedom. I sighed."Just so you know, I didn't want to do this." The Alpha muttered.I nodded, but didn't speak."I had no choice. He was getting out of control." "But to put him back in that cell?" I snapped. I couldn't close my damn mouth to save my life. The Alpha stopped in his tracks, twirling on his heel to face me. The look in his eyes now is deadly."Listen, girl. This is also out of my control. I can't control him.""Why?"His eyes narrowed at me."You're the alpha." I added. He squinted at me before he sighed. He shook his head. "Not everything is as simple as you think." I tilted my head. I wondered what he meant by that when a guard rushed over to us."Alpha, he's losing it!" And it's either he happens to be here or he is one of the rogues. And by the looks of it, he is one of them.Carlos stared at him all the time, and his hands were shaking. I could hear his heartbeat racing. The way he swallowed when he saw him for the first time. Some of the trackers behind me growled, but Carlos held up his hand in warning. Not to take action. That he had this under control.'Get the children to safety. I will deal with this.' He sent the message through the group link. All of us just froze.'Now!' The warning in his voice has become a real threat. It had everyone jolting up to go to move the children to safety. I, however, stayed in my spot unmoving.Something's not righ

CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN Carlos’ POV Is it him? Is it really him? I can’t believe it. Even Vato became dead silent. Is it really our little brother? But that’s impossible. He died, years ago. I saw it happen with my own eyes. I stare gobsmacked at the man. His eyes were coral blue, something he’d gotten from our mother. His hair, jet black slicked back just like mine. He even has that same birthmark I remember him having as a child. I tried moving my lips, but they’re frozen as ice. “Lucas?” He smiled at Casey, but something about his expression felt different. Then he whips his gaze to me. Suddenly, he drops it. His eyes darkened, and I felt my blood run cold. TWENTY YEARS AGO… Blood. The air around me is filled with blood. Most belonging to my Dad, who had dropped dead on the ground before me. “Hmm,” I hear a rumbling sound. As I turn my head slowly, I realize I needed to look up to clash eyes with the figure I saw kill my Dad. My eyes raised, and my breath hit
