CHAPTER FIFTY-ONE

Evvie’s POV:

I bit my lower lip, unsure of what to say.

I looked at him, and a part of me that still loves him clenched.

His ocean blue eyes gazed deeply into mine, and my heart skipped a beat when he tightened his hold on the back of my hand.

“That’s up to you, really,” I finally replied.

Pulling my hand, I looked at him firmly. “But you should know, it’s not going to be easy.” I added, fighting back the tears that threatened to surface.

“Five years of trauma and despair doesn’t make any of this easier, Zachary.” I told him my truth.

I spent the last five years trying to forget him. I tried to move on with a life without my fated mate, knowing he’s coddling another woman and a child in his tow.

Relief mixed with guilt swirled in his eyes at my reply.

He nodded, and I saw pain radiate through his eyes.

“I’m sorry I caused you pain.” He croaked.

He did not meet my eyes and he averted his gaze away from mine.

I took in a deep breath and sighed.
