Desiree

Chapter two

Desiree

I creeped out of the bed slowly so as not to wake up the sleeping man. When I was sure he was still asleep, I gathered my uniform into one arm, shrugged on the hotel bathrobe and hurried out of the room.

At the door, I looked to either side of the hallway to make sure nobody was out and about before rushing into the stairwell.

I flew down the stairs faster than I had ever done in my life. The elevator was too risky to use and so even though I was on the nineteenth floor, I ran all the way down to the ground floor where the staff rooms were, all the while praying to not be discovered.

I was dead if anybody saw me doing my walk of shame. It was against the rules to sleep with a guest. But not only had I just done that, I had also literally impersonated another guest.

Oh my God.

Luckily for me, Des was alone in the staff room filing her nails when I rushed in. She looked up and did a double take.

“Des? Where the hell have you been girl?”

I locked the door behind me, “you’d never believe it.”

She snorted, “don’t tell me you accidentally locked yourself in the wine cellar again, I told you to always go there with someone else but you’d never listen.”

“I wish.” I said.

She raised a brow, “you’re scaring me.”

“Let me just tell you the whole sordid tale.”

“Hit me with it.”

“I was in Miss Bell’s tub-“

Lois sighed, “you lucky bitch.”

I gave her a look and she immediately made a mouth zipping motion.

“This guy walks in. Total dream boat. I’m talking Massimo Torricelli, Christian grey and every other book hero you can think of in one divine package. He thinks I’m Miss Bell and well, in summary, I will be walking bowlegged for a week.” I cover my face with my hands so I wouldn’t see her horrified expression.

“Lord, I see what you’re doing for others.” She said.

I looked at her to see her with a dreamy expression.

“You have all the luck.”

I rolled my eyes at her, “he’s probably married.”

“I hope you used protection.”

“Are you kidding me! Of course I did.”

“But it was good right?” She waggled her brows at me.

“Go to hell.” I told her which made her roar with laughter.

Her laughter immediately died off and her eyes widened in horror and panic. My heart seized in my chest. Lois wasn’t one to panic about anything. So that look on her face didn’t bode well for me.

“Your dream boat-“

“He’s not mine,” I corrected with a glare.

“Whatever,” she waved a hand dismissively, “does he have dark hair and blue eyes?”

“Yeah, why?” I asked, surprised and confused.

“Fuck.”

“Now you’re the one scaring me.”

“I heard he was in the hotel but I’d have never thought in a million years that he’d end up with you.”

“Who? I’m confused over here, Lois.”

“Have you been living under a rock?” She asked exasperatedly. “How did you not recognize him?”

“Lois for God’s sake just tell it to me plain.” I snapped.

“That man is Killian Donovan,” she said.

The name rang a bell, but I couldn’t exactly place it.

“The fourth.” She finished.

Realization hit me at once. I wasn’t the most updated when it came to news and I hardly used any social media apps. Lois always groused that I was a ninety year old in the body of a twenty six year old.

I just didn’t see what was so fascinating about being stuck with your phone and hearing about other people’s lives.

But Killian Donovan the fourth was a name even I had heard. At just thirty five, he was one of the youngest billionaires on this side of the coast. His name was associated with so many projects in the city, it’d have been impossible to not hear about him even if I tried.

“No.” I gasp in horror.

“Yes.” She replied.

“He’d never find out. Right? Oh my God. I’m going to lose my job. And my home. And maybe go to jail.”

“Stop, you didn’t rob him or anything. I’m sure it’s fine.”

“Don’t you know anything about rich people. They hate to think they’ve been tricked or deceived in any way.”

“Uh, you just gave him free pussy after his hookup ditched him. I don’t think he should have any complaints.” Lois insisted. “If anything, you should be demanding a hefty settlement.”

“What if-“

“No one’s going to find out. No one knows it was you in there with him and as far as he’s concerned, he went to bed with Vittoria. He’s definitely not going to admit that he couldn’t recognize Vittoria in a line up and ended up with someone else. Men never admit to making mistakes.” She pointed out, “and if worse comes to worst, you can pull the he forced you into it card.”

The thought of doing that left a sour taste in my mouth, but I knew that If I was being pushed to the wall I’d have no choice but to save my own neck.

“So how does it feel, to have had hot, violent sex with a gorgeous, billionaire. Do you feel different? Can you tell what in this room will fetch me the most gain if I tried to sell it on F******k marketplace?”

I rolled my eyes at her with a smile, “definitely you. Those kidneys will go for a handsome price. We’d be able to pay upfront for that beautiful house in that gated community. Maybe we’ll end up being Killian’s neighbors.”

“At least we know for a fact that he’s not married. And that he’s a five star bedroom experience.”

“And that he has tattoos.” I thought about the swirl of ink all over his arms and chest.

Lois let out another dreamy sigh, “I’m saying it again. You’re one lucky bitch.”
