Chapter three

Killian

“What do you mean by Vittoria left the hotel thirty six minutes before I arrived?” I asked.

“Well, she was at the Dashers club at the time you were at the hotel. There are I*******m videos of her doing shots.” My assistant, Alex said.

I lean back in my chair, my expression carefully neutral, “if Vittoria wasn’t in the hotel room with me. Who had?”

Because there had definitely been someone in there with me. A brown haired goddess that had blown mind and done a disappearing act afterwards.

My mind flashed with images of her big, doe brown eyes staring up at me as I’d brought her to another orgasm. There had been something so innocent and pure and open about her. Something that should have clued me in that she wasn’t Vittoria Bell.

Vittoria was an experienced escort, and she’d have been eager to take the lead and wow me with her prowess. The woman that had been in my bed last night had been content to let me lead. She had been soft and pliable and fucking perfect.

Who the hell was she? Why the hell had she been in Vittoria’s room? In her bathtub naked too? Had Vittoria set this up?

I hated mysteries. I liked knowing everything about everything. I liked knowing that people were predictable and I could have every aspect of my life in perfect control. This wasn’t a part of the plan. This was out of my usual and I didn’t like it.

I wanted- no- I needed to get to the bottom of it as soon as possible.

“Her name is Desiree David and she’s a maid at the hotel.” Alex said carefully.

“A maid?” I asked. Unsure if I had heard correctly.

“Yes.”

“Has she reached out? Is it blackmail or something?”

His eyebrows bunched up in frustration, “no. She hasn’t. In fact it seems like she doesn’t particularly care. She’s continued with her life like nothing out of the ordinary happened.”

He looked up at me, ”excuse me for saying, but I don’t think this cleaner is going to present us any problems in the future.”

“I didn’t ask your opinion.” I sai coldly. I didn’t get to where I was by leaving things to chance. I got here by putting plans and contingencies in place just in case something came up. I was always prepared for any eventuality.

“I want to see her,” I told Alex.

“Vittoria?” He asked.

“No, the cleaner.”

I had no business with Vittoria and honestly, I wasn’t mad about it. She looked like she was a headache, high maintenance, whiny and demanding. She was the last thing I wanted to deal with right now.

“But why sir?” Alex asked, his tone full of confusion.

“When I say jump, you say how high.” I told him, “you don’t ask me why. The next time you question me, you will become unemployed and unemployable in forty states.”

He swallowed, then gave a small nod of acknowledgement. “I’ll reach out to the cleaner.” He said and then walked out of my office.

I couldn’t go back to work for hours later, my mind stuck on the woman who had been in my bed three days ago. I had had sex with countless women in the course of my life. Women were all too eager to throw themselves at me as soon as they recognized me.

The cleaner hadn't recognized me though. I’d know. She had looked at me without a flicker of recognition. Dollar signs hadn’t been in her eyes as she had looked at me. That was a very rare experience for me. I was used to women looking at me like I was their next meal.

I pressed down on my intercom button. I was determined to have the cleaner. I was a man who got whatever he wanted and she was going to be no exception.

“I need to see Quinn Now.” I barked into the microphone.

“Yes, sir” Alex replied.

Barely ten minutes later, my head of finance walked in, looking haggard as if she’d run ten blocks to see me. Good. There was nothing I hated more than people who lacked a sense of urgency.

“The BelleClavé hotel. I want it.”

Her eyes went wide, “Sir, they’re a chain of over ten very exclusive hotels around the world. They won’t go for pocket change. We’ll have a negotiation on our hands that may take months and we’re already deeply entrenched in the Middler Project. As your financial officer, I’d like to say that this isn’t a good idea.”

“I know,” I told her, “it’s a good thing that it’s my name on the door not yours then. Begin negotiations to get thr hotel. Pause the Middler Project. This is more urgent.”

Her lips pressed Into a flat line, the corners of her mouth going white with restraint, “sir, can I ask why this hotel is important all of a sudden?”

“No. You can’t ask.” I replied. “You’ll do what I tell you to immediately. I’m expecting positive news before the week ends.”

“Of course sir”

“And, Quinn,” I said as she begins to walk away, “this is a quiet project. I don’t want the usual loud take over. I’d prefer if this take over happened discreetly.” I was guessing the cleaner would know who I was by now, but I didn’t want to spook her till I was good and ready to meet with her.

By then, I’d have her exactly where I wanted her- at my mercy.

I didn’t know why I was taking all the extra precaution, I just had a feeling that Desiree wasn’t going to be very open to becoming my kept woman.

“Something this size would inevitably blow up.” She told me.

“I know. It won’t be a secret forever. Just for a while.”

“Yes, sir.” She walked out of the door and I was sure she was swearing up a storm right now.

Desiree was going to be mine. Nothing was going to stand in my way.
