Chapter 1 – His Search

Conrad is the oldest son of Alpha Carlos from the Snow Mountain Pack. Their pack is suitably named as they reside near the mountains, which become covered in snow during the winter season. Also, their wolves normally have white fur. Those native to their pack, anyway. Since there’s been a mix up with other packs due to mating, not everyone has a white wolf. The alpha’s family, though, carries the dominant gene. Regardless of mating with someone outside their pack, the resulting offspring would be white wolves.

Conrad has a younger brother named Caleb. They were two years apart. And though their father and the elders wanted to train Caleb as well, his brother isn’t interested. He’s a good fighter, though. He trains hard as a pack warrior.

Their mother is sweet, gentle, and kind. She has a very nurturing nature and helpful to everyone. She rarely raises her voice. Her boys wanted to have mates as wonderful as their mother. Of course, she taught them that, too. As pack leaders, their mates should understand the responsibility as well.

But Conrad is now twenty-eight years old and he hasn’t met his mate yet. This does not discourage him. Their pack is only one of many residing in the country. They have allied with the others and there’s an existing agreement of peace to make finding mates easier for everyone. Mates are very important to werewolves. It’s the moon goddess’ choice for every Lycan. There’s a certain pull towards one another, though it doesn’t exactly override one’s choice or will. Mates can be rejected. You can mate with someone else of your choosing. There are second chances, too.

Conrad’s confidence and hope wane every year that passes by. He hopes to meet his mate before he turns thirty. His Luna. He has already visited majority of the packs in the country. The scope of his search is getting smaller each month.

Who knew that it was her who would stumble into their territory?

The premise isn’t good, though. A group of rogues has stepped into their grounds, while being pursued by hostile wolves. The report came to his father and Conrad joined in checking the situation.

He perked up when his senses caught her scent. It smells like fresh apples. He lightly growled. There’s fear in the air and he heard a woman scream. He ran faster. He hoped that scream didn’t originate from his mate. She’s finally here! He’s finally gonna see her!

His father did sense the change in him and asked him through the mind l**k. He merely replied with one word. Mate!

As the next alpha of the pack, his mate is considered someone just as important. Carlos ordered everyone in his command to protect the newcomers, especially the women.

Your future Luna may be one of them. He directly informed them of the reason. That would make them take it seriously. Given that those wolves are rogues, it’s common to view them with suspicion and hate. There’s no genuine desire to help them.

That won’t be the case today, though.

Alice rarely transforms into her wolf. She’d only done it twice before. While everyone is already fighting in that form, she remained in her human one. She gripped in her hands two daggers that her mother gifted her on her eighteenth birthday. They’re sharp and she’s used to using them to protect herself. Against huge wolves, though… it doesn’t seem much. They hoped this pack that they encroached upon would help them, but her hopes aren’t that high.

Alice only met this group two months ago. Everyone has been running for quite some time. Her? She’s been on the run for almost a year now. Someone took pity on her early on and gave her a potion that masks her scent. It ran out a couple of days ago.

She doesn’t fight well. The way she defends herself is haphazard. When Conrad approached her, she almost sliced through him.

“Hey, there… easy.” It isn’t the time to admire her, Conrad reminded himself, but he could really spend days just looking at her.

Alice looked at him, confused. He’s in his human form and though he’s taller than her, she immediately noticed the way he protects her. Only then did she realize the newcomers. Are they safe now? She wanted to sob. Her legs gave in from a combination of hunger and fear.

“Are you okay?” His voice… that’s when the scent hit her and her eyes constricted. Mate! No!

He has one arm around her waist, having held her when she slumped down. He was reluctant to leave her, but knew he must.

“Stay here.” His voice was soothing the fear in her heart and she watched him transform into the whitest wolf she’d ever seen. Her body trembled. Is he…? Is he her mate? She took a deep breath and his scent was mixed in it. It was calming her nerves. It must be from exhaustion but she felt her body weakening and she couldn’t keep her eyes open. Softly, she slumped on the ground, covered in a thick layer of grass.

Their pack warriors drove most of the hostile werewolves away. Some were killed. They were tough and put up quite a fight. The rogues who encroached in their territory were rounded up and taken to the camp. As for his mate, he didn’t allow anyone else to touch her. He carried her in his arms.

His mother and a few other pack members checked the wounded.

“Do you want to put her in a nursery room or are you taking her to your room?”

There was that teasing tone from his mother and he knew his father told her.

“She’s beautiful. What’s her name?”

He appreciated her compliment, but he has no answer to her question.

“I don’t know yet.”

“She doesn’t have any fresh wound on her, just scratches here and there. You can put her in your room if you want.” His mother instructed and he obeyed. He needed to go and check on the group she came with. Rogues, huh? She doesn’t have a pack?

After tucking her in to his bed, he pressed a kiss on her forehead. A smile slowly appeared on his face. Mate. He finally found her. As he gazed at her face, he couldn’t be more thankful.

He only left her alone when his father mind-linked him and asked for his presence in the conference hall. He won’t be gone too long anyway.

When he arrived at the hall, he counted eleven rogues in total. Her mate will make that a dozen. Three are currently being treated for serious injuries.

“Have you interrogated them already, father?” He asked as he stood next to the alpha.

Before his old man could reply, a middle-aged woman directed a question at them.

“Where’s Alice? What have you done to her?”

His father turned to him, allowing him to answer.

“Is that her name?” He asked, repeating the name in his head. It’s as beautiful as her.

“Where is she?” There was concern and worry in her voice. Conrad doesn’t think she’s a threat.

“She’s safe, sleeping soundly in my room. You don’t need to worry about her.”

“In your room?” Now, there’s a hint of anger in her tone. Her eyes were glaring daggers at him.

Conrad sighed but his father decided to answer on his behalf.

“She happens to be my son’s mate. She will not be harmed, if that is your concern. Now, tell us how you stumbled upon our territory and who were after you earlier? Which hostile pack are they from?”

“It was the Silver Crescent Pack.” A man among the group replied. He seems to be the oldest and acting as leader. His answer didn’t need any additional explanation. Silver Crescent is notorious with its bad reputation. They were cruel, barbaric and unreasonable. It hasn’t been that way from the beginning. It started about five years ago. Their leader turned evil and inflicted pain to anyone who goes against him. Several good men tried to beat him, but none succeeded. He was ruthless. Just last year, there was a piece of news that said he killed his own mate. It was terrible. The alpha’s name was Walter and everyone has been wary of him and his attacks on neighboring packs. The allied packs have not made any decision yet on attacking them. In a way, Silver Crescent was the biggest pack in the northern territory. It would take much resources to attack it and ensure a win. Coordination between the allied packs is the biggest challenge. Alice never wanted to lose those daggers. She can’t lose them. She pleaded the man with a look.Conrad took a moment to sigh. “Why don’t you drink first?” He gave her the glass of water and she took it. She’s really thirsty. After finishing the glass, she realized there’s food on the table. She stared at them almost longingly.“I don’t think bringing a lamp would help much. Let’s wait for morning to come. Are you hungry? You should eat first.”When he gestured for her to move towards the table, she was slightly taken aback. The food… she can eat them? It’s been so long since she had a proper meal. On at table. With utensils. But her daggers… she hesitated to move.“I promise we’ll get your daggers back tomorrow.” His voice seemed to be pleading. When she stared at him, he has this calming effect on her. As minutes go by, Conrad watched as her expression darkened.Alice couldn’t believe her luck. Her mate came from the family of the Alpha. But would he want her as a mate? She knew mates could be rejected. All she would bring to this pack is trouble. They might want to avoid that. She dashed her own hope. No way would they want her here. She’s glad for this brief reprieve, though. It’s nice to feel comfortable once in a while after so many months of discomfort.“What’s wrong?” He finally asked, not liking how her face paled. It was rosy when she got out of the shower and he liked seeing her with color. He can almost feel how soft her cheeks would be. The dress also looked good on her.She gave him a sad smile, “You’re going to reject me, aren’t you?”His heart skipped a beat at hearing her question.“What made you think that?” His expression showed agitation. That would never ha

Conrad knew he should stop while he’s still in control. He doesn’t want to scare her off. Who knew how long they’ve been engaged in kissing each other? Her taste is now etched in his memory. As sweet as apples. With much difficulty, he pressed a hard kiss on her lips before moving back… only to find her following him and seeking his lips once again. Damn. He groaned in frustration. He knew she’s not ready. She doesn’t even know how to kiss just a while ago.He tried pushing her off, very lightly and he saw her expression of desire and haze.“Alice, we should stop.” He whispered as he caressed her cheek and yes, her skin is as soft as he imagined. Her face is flushed and her chest is heaving. Still, there’s an ache below her navel that hasn’t gone away.“You should rest. Lie on the bed and sleep.” He pressed a kiss on her nose. He waited for her to move, but she didn’t. They simply sta

Conrad went to the room next door and took a shower as well. He promised that they’ll look for her daggers and he meant to do that first thing this morning. He was ready to go when she came out of the bathroom. She was wearing a white shirt and blue pants. Ah, he forgot the shoes again. “Wait here for a moment. I’ll get you some shoes.” He quickly went out and while he’s away, Alice looked around his room. She was not able to do so yesterday. When he left her to sleep, she truly fell asleep. He returned with a pair of white rubber shoes. He took her hand and guided her through the pack house. There was that undeniable spark when they touched. “Are we going to the woods?” She’s still anxious about losing her daggers. “Not yet. Let’s have breakfast first. My mother wants to meet you.” In the kitchen, her mother is already there. She’s usually early at work, overseeing the pack house management. She approached when they en

Conrad kept close to her as they made their way towards the forest. He’s got this prickly feeling in his chest, whenever he catches another guy looking at his mate. It’s an irritating feeling, but he knew he needed to keep it under control. Alice noticed his closeness but it did make her feel safe in this unfamiliar territory. At one point, he grabbed her wrist and held it as they walked. Then, he started telling her the areas in the pack that they’ve come across. She looked around and felt a certain level of calm in her heart. This place seems to have that effect on her. It looks peaceful. It’s simple and neat but that’s its beauty. She frowned at how organized and tidy the place was. Her old pack is known for being chaotic and messy. The environment alone keeps her alert and on guard. But here… she likes the momentary feeling she’s having. She took in a deep breath and the smelled his scent again. Apples. At some point, his hand has moved toward hers and clasped it

She cried for a while and Conrad tried his best to comfort her. He felt helpless with his words. He knew he would truly protect her and keep her safe, but she can’t seem to accept it. He can tell she’s having thoughts of leaving. Alice found comfort in his arms. She grudgingly admitted to herself that she liked the feeling. To have someone to lean on… but she really doesn’t want to trouble them. She wiped her tears and stepped away from him. “I’m sorry.” “You have nothing to be sorry about.” Conrad replied, itching to touch her again. She turned away from him and asked, “Should we move on? I really want to retrieve my daggers.” Conrad checked their position and gestured towards a certain direction, “This way.” As soon as they neared the place, Alice sniffed the air. The daggers definitely have her scent. They’re very dear to her and she sleeps at night holding them. Conrad picked up the scent as well but he let her find it. It

Conrad decided to give her more time. He understands it won’t be easy for her to trust him when she spent the last few months only relying on herself and the others she’d been with. Also, it’s calming. The surface of the lake is calm and reflects the mountains beyond. The colors are clear, perfectly simulating a mirror. Her pace became faster and she almost skipped towards it, going ahead of him.He chuckled at her reaction. He’s glad she likes it.Alice also noticed the cute houses that were situated near the lake. There were two of them. She assumed those were the houses he mentioned. Alice woke up feeling tickled. Her mate was pressing kisses behind her ear and along her neck. She moaned lightly, grasping the arm around her waist. “Good morning.” Conrad slightly got up and pressed a kiss on her lips, eventually sitting on the bed. Ever since Liana came, they were able to relax and rest properly. They were very grateful. The woman was an elite vampire. She was born a vampire, not turned. Her father was an elite, whereas her mother was turned. She was able to explain what’s going on with Ice and assured them that there’s nothing to worry about. The red eyes are apparently due to feeling extreme emotions, mostly irritation. But it can also be due to extreme happiness or sadness. The need for blood would depend on several factors. As a baby, a small amount should suffice. Consuming more blood than necessary is also not recommended. It could get addicting and could prove troublesome. Liana didn’t elaborate but simply mentioned it’s a case most vampires try to avoid. T

“Give me a moment.” She replied and went to stare at herself in the mirror. Yes, they do have reflections. She took a few deep breaths while organizing the information she has gotten. She’s quite skilled and she knew the woman told her the truth when she asked questions.A new place… but how would she be treated in a place infested with wolves? Their natural enemy? Would it be better than her current situation? She hesitated and bit her lip. She had to play this well to her advantage. She took a few more deep breaths before standing straight and exuding the confidence she normally wears. She got out and the couple were waiting for her. She stood there, sizing them up. The way the woman clings to his side, such affection… she was tempted to sigh.“Then, should we get a table and chat? What would you like to eat?” The place is half-bar, half-restaurant.Liana nodded and gestured for them to lead the way. Caleb scanned her once, not letting his guard down. She rolled her eyes at him. For a few months, they observed the twin’s growth, especially Ice. He seems fine and wasn’t troublesome. Well, all they do is eat, play and sleep. Cry and poop. That was the cycle. It’s fairly ordinary. Caleb has been coordinating with their members in the city, asking them to help locate a few vampires, preferably females. He’s assuming they would be easier to talk to. Huh. If it’s a male, he could already picture the aggression and the unwillingness to engage in a conversation. Their view on hybrids is similar to wolves, or any other species for that matter. They do not treat them kindly. Some may be indifferent but that’s not the general stance. Lourianne wanted to go with him and he hesitated. “We’ll see. If the person isn’t too dangerous, I will take you. Do you want to visit your parents?” Her eyes lit up. Of course, she does. Caleb chuckled seeing her excitement. “I’ll take you. I’ll let you stay with them for a while if it’s dangerous. If not, you’re with me.” “Great. Than

“Ah, shit…” Conrad softly cursed. “What is it?” Alice quickly asked him. It was as if he came to know something. “Could he be a full-pledged vampire? They’re normally pale and cold to the touch, right?” To him, it’s better than having a dead son. It doesn’t matter to him, he would accept the child. It’s still his own blood and flesh. The problem would be how other people perceive him. Not to mention, other packs may also have their own opinions. Alice heard him and carefully eyed both babies. They’re easy to distinguish because of it, even though their appearance looks the same at the moment. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. She also understands the possible implications of this birth. “We’ll figure it out later. What’s important is that they’re both here, alive and well. Healthy and safe. And you as well. Aren’t you tired? Rest for a while.” Conrad kissed her cheek before taking the second baby off her and hugging it. He figured the first baby would be better off on

“So, what happens now?” Alice asked as they watched those men leaving their territory.Conrad glanced at her. He’d been extremely relieved that she stayed and did not have any desire to leave. He’d been worried and every night he would somehow tell her how much he needs her. The first few days, he could tell she still entertained the idea, albeit not seriously. When she began to be productive around the pack, he began to relax and focus on his own responsibilities.“We rebuild the pack. We keep on training. We’ll improve security even more. We’ll be ready for any trouble.” He firmly replied to her, gently squeezing her hand. She audibly sighed as they eyed the forests. It’s not the end. It’s only the beginning. But she hoped to have a few years of peace before any kind of trouble arrives.Caleb and Lourianne wanted a separate home, but not too far from the pack house. It was fine. Not everyone lives in the pack house. It’s more like a headquarters for the Alpha and the other officers.

Their Alpha told them to rest as those who rested last night began to rise and show up on the grounds. Caleb also showed up, but his expression was grim. Lourianne was still in hysterics, blaming herself. It was difficult to keep her calm.“Can you accompany her?” He asked Alice but Conrad wanted to beat him up when he heard his request.“The hell are you asking her? You want my mate to break down as well?” He berated through the link. His younger brother grimaced. He hasn’t considered that. Conrad wouldn’t waste the opportunity. He knew such an action from Walter wasn’t natural. He could guess Alice has something to do with it.He clamped hard against his neck and ravaged him, tearing his flesh. There was a howl of pain and Alice struck him across the face. He told her to never position herself below an enemy, exposing her neck to vulnerability. He’s proud of how she’s applying the things she learned in real life. But it’s not that easy. Walter resisted and struggled, managing to swipe Alice away with such force that she was pushed back a few feet away. Conrad also persisted and wouldn’t let go of him. He was almost hugging the other wolf, keeping him in place. Alice returned within a minute and attacked his body. She wouldn’t dare hit him on the head, lest Conrad’s bite on him loosens. It became a matter of perseverance. Who would last longer? Who would tire out first? She could tell Conrad is already exhausted. He must have fought others earlier even before this bastar

Everything suddenly became a blur to her, which is bad. She’s moving on instinct and not truly aware of her surroundings and who she’s attacking. Both Caleb and Conrad told her how important it is for her to be fully conscious of her every action.Someone dared to sneak up on her and she mercilessly fought back. At this time, her nervousness died down, no longer rushing her and making her impatient. That’s good enough for her. She crouched down, laying low as she surveyed her surroundings again. The wolf within her began to feel agitated the longer they stay still. She began moving, pouncing on an enemy and sinking her fangs on their necks. She clawed at their bodies, striking them repeatedly until they no longer move. Whimpers and growls filled the air. Almost no one in sight is in their human form. This time she moved with purpose, methodically attacking one after another. Only by looking at her red eyes were wo
