Conrad went to the room next door and took a shower as well. He promised that they’ll look for her daggers and he meant to do that first thing this morning.
He was ready to go when she came out of the bathroom. She was wearing a white shirt and blue pants. Ah, he forgot the shoes again.
“Wait here for a moment. I’ll get you some shoes.”
He quickly went out and while he’s away, Alice looked around his room. She was not able to do so yesterday. When he left her to sleep, she truly fell asleep.
He returned with a pair of white rubber shoes. He took her hand and guided her through the pack house. There was that undeniable spark when they touched.
“Are we going to the woods?” She’s still anxious about losing her daggers.
“Not yet. Let’s have breakfast first. My mother wants to meet you.”
In the kitchen, her mother is already there. She’s usually early at work, overseeing the pack house management.
She approached when they entered the dining hall.
“Hello. You must be Alice. I’m Selena, Conrad’s mom.” Her warm smile and friendly tone lowered Alice’s guard. She was actually reminded of her own mother. She’s just as sweet and caring.
Selena gave her a brief hug before directing them into a table. The three of them sat down as someone brought out three plates. They were early as breakfast doesn’t begin until thirty minutes later. Alice felt comfortable with the scarce number of people around them. She would most likely freak out if there’s too many people. One reason he brought her here before the others pour in.
His mother chatted with her, mostly asking if she’s feeling comfortable or if she needs anything in particular.
“We’ll go and look for her daggers in the forest.” Conrad explained what their next activity is.
“Daggers? You use them?” Selena is intrigued. The young woman in front of her has a small frame. Though of course, it’s also possible that she knows how to fight. Every wolf has that tendency to learn to protect oneself.
“Yes.” Alice replied simply.
“We have daggers in the storeroom, don’t we?” She turned to her son.
Conrad looked at Alice before answering, “Yes, we do.”
“Why don’t you just get new ones? The forest is vast.” Selene suggested kindly. It made Alice uncomfortable.
“My mom gave them to me.” Her voice was small and sad as she kept looking down.
“We’ll find them.” Conrad promised her. Wait, he already promised her last night, didn’t he? Why did he forget about it so soon? He’s losing points for trust. She might think he’s unreliable.
“I see. Of course, you should look for them. Take all the time you need. Do you want me to pack lunches for you?”
“It’s fine. I can find them quickly. I’m sure I have my scent on them.” Alice assured them that it won’t be a time-consuming task.
“Even so, you don’t need to rush.” Selena insisted, then turned to her son.
“Why don’t you show her around the territory? Have a picnic. I’ll prepare the food.” She smiled at them before returning to the kitchen.
Conrad stared at Alice’s figure.
“Look at me. Keep your head up.” He told her. When she didn’t budge, he reached out and touched her chin with a finger.
“What’s wrong?” He became concerned because of her expression.
“I need potions to conceal my scent, too. You said your pack has them?”
“Yes. We’ll drop by the storehouse. I told you, the borders already conceal everyone’s scent. You don’t have to worry about it.”
“I just want to be doubly sure. I don’t want to risk it.” She bravely looked directly into his eyes. She liked that he’s concerned about her.
He smiled at her before lightly caressing her cheek. Her skin is too soft and fair. He decided that he’ll ask her questions after they find her daggers. She seemed jittery because of her lost daggers. She didn’t mention last night how important it is to her, but he did think it has that kind of significance to her.
“You said the daggers were given by you mom? Where is she?” Or maybe he shouldn’t have asked.
Her expression became dark and sorrowful.
“I’m sorry.” He pulled her into a lose hug and caressed her back.
Alice couldn’t stop herself from crying. Her mother’s death was horrifying and terrible. The memory alone could make her tremble from fear. Even now, she’s wondering how she managed to run away from that nightmare.
But in a way, she understood it’s because her mom protected her. Clung to her killer so he couldn’t go after her immediately. That was enough time for her to leave and run endlessly.
Selena returned with a packed basket to witness this scene.
“What did you do?” She’s ready to reprimand her son. You don’t make a lady cry! Even more so when it’s your mate!
Conrad winced at his mother’s tone. He mouthed silently the words “her mom” to her.
“Oh…” She correctly assumed that her mom’s already dead. Death is always going to be the worst experience one can have. No one truly knows how to deal with it. It’s different for everyone.
With her presence, though, Alice stopped herself from crying and wiped her face with her hands.
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to cry.”
“It’s okay to cry.” Conrad softly replied by her ear. She shivered a little.
Selena breathed in relief. It’s good that she can pull herself together quickly. “Here’s your lunch. Don’t let her go hungry. Also, be careful when you’re on the training grounds.”
“Yes, mom.”
“Does your father already know? Or should I tell him you’ll be away from your duties today.”
“I already informed him.”
“Good. I’ll see you both for dinner.”
“Thanks, mom.”
“Hmm…”
“Thank you.” Alice didn’t forget to express her gratitude and stood. They should go now, right?
Selena smiled at her.
“I hope you’ll feel at home here. I would like to welcome you into the pack in advance.” She gave Alice a warm but brief hug.
“Another one?” Selena gladly embraced her again when she saw how she looked disappointed at their parting.
Alice was glad, too. She missed her mom so much.
Hello, update on this story will resume this February 2022. Sorry for the inconvenience. Meanwhile, you can also check out my other story here on Goodnovel, Try Harder. Thank you.
Conrad kept close to her as they made their way towards the forest. He’s got this prickly feeling in his chest, whenever he catches another guy looking at his mate. It’s an irritating feeling, but he knew he needed to keep it under control. Alice noticed his closeness but it did make her feel safe in this unfamiliar territory. At one point, he grabbed her wrist and held it as they walked. Then, he started telling her the areas in the pack that they’ve come across. She looked around and felt a certain level of calm in her heart. This place seems to have that effect on her. It looks peaceful. It’s simple and neat but that’s its beauty. She frowned at how organized and tidy the place was. Her old pack is known for being chaotic and messy. The environment alone keeps her alert and on guard. But here… she likes the momentary feeling she’s having. She took in a deep breath and the smelled his scent again. Apples. At some point, his hand has moved toward hers and clasped it
She cried for a while and Conrad tried his best to comfort her. He felt helpless with his words. He knew he would truly protect her and keep her safe, but she can’t seem to accept it. He can tell she’s having thoughts of leaving. Alice found comfort in his arms. She grudgingly admitted to herself that she liked the feeling. To have someone to lean on… but she really doesn’t want to trouble them. She wiped her tears and stepped away from him. “I’m sorry.” “You have nothing to be sorry about.” Conrad replied, itching to touch her again. She turned away from him and asked, “Should we move on? I really want to retrieve my daggers.” Conrad checked their position and gestured towards a certain direction, “This way.” As soon as they neared the place, Alice sniffed the air. The daggers definitely have her scent. They’re very dear to her and she sleeps at night holding them. Conrad picked up the scent as well but he let her find it. It
Conrad decided to give her more time. He understands it won’t be easy for her to trust him when she spent the last few months only relying on herself and the others she’d been with. When they neared the lake, he heard her softly gasp.“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” He’s proud of this scenery. It’s one of the best places in their territory. Also, it’s calming. The surface of the lake is calm and reflects the mountains beyond. The colors are clear, perfectly simulating a mirror. Her pace became faster and she almost skipped towards it, going ahead of him.He chuckled at her reaction. He’s glad she likes it.Alice also noticed the cute houses that were situated near the lake. There were two of them. She assumed those were the houses he mentioned. Her gaze focused on the lake and its water surface. She breathed in the fresh air, too. His scent of apples tickled her nostrils. It made
The more he looks at her, the more he wants her. But he kept himself under control. They ate everything his mother prepared, which wasn’t much. Apparently. After a few hours of light conversation, in which he told her things about the pack, the sun has gotten very hot against their skin. It must be lunch time already. “Do you want to head back? Or stay a while longer?” Conrad asked her and she contemplated. “Can we come back here?” She likes this place. “Of course. Any time you want. It’s not restricted. I can come with you if I’m not busy.” Alice nodded. “Let’s go back, then.” She helped in packing the basket and they walked back. “Do you want me to show you around?” Though he told her what she would find in the pack, it’s not the same as seeing them. Alice hesitated. “Can I rest for a while?” He noticed the way she seemed to wince while asking. “Of course. I should’ve known you would be tired. How long has it been since you last had a fun run?” “Almost a year?” “Back in yo
Alice stared at him straight. She could sense his feelings. He’s nervous. She could feel his sincerity. His words touched her deeply. She badly wanted to believe him, yes. But this morning, didn’t she tell herself that she would leave? Conrad didn’t press her for a reply. He kissed her forehead and they walked back to the house. There were people on the way, but she seemed distracted and not ready to meet anyone so he excused themselves as he escorted her to his room. Well, their room. He left her there after a while, telling her to think about what he said. He needed to see his father. What he learned isn’t much, things they could’ve speculated based on the rumors going around. His father is starting to gather more factual information about Alpha Walter of the Silver Crescent Pack. His past isn’t good. There was a period of time that he seemed tame but now he’s uncontrollable. “We’re going to keep Alice here, right?” Conrad wanted a direct answer from his father and alpha. “Of c
Conrad spent a long time with his father, the pack leaders and the elders. They’re happy that he has found his mate, but they were also concerned that she’s trouble. Alpha Walter is hunting her. If they keep her in the pack, they would have to battle it out with Silver Crescent. A pack that has a reputation for being ruthless and stronger than most. There were heated arguments about it. It’s practically half and half. At least half were supportive of him, who doesn’t mind her presence, and looking at the situation like a challenge. Maybe it’s time they battle it out with that pesky pack. Yes, Snow Mountain may not be able to handle it on its own, but that’s why they have allies. The neighboring packs would most likely help them out. The other half are either pessimists or cowards. They like their current comfort and didn’t want it to change. Or they simply don’t want to engage in a confrontation with a vicious pack. The rest understand that packs like
“You’re safer here. I’ve said this many times already, I’m going to protect you. I promise you that.” Alice let him pull her closer to him. She stared into his eyes, searching for something. It’s not as if she’s good at discernment but she could usually tell if someone’s lying. Also, he is her mate. He would surely feel compelled to protect her, keep her safe, and have intimate feelings for her. “Would you really?” She wanted confirmation. She wanted to trust his words but she’s afraid he would let her down. These last few months, what she learned is that she can only rely on herself. “I will. You’re a part of me now. You are my mate. If you get hurt, I would feel your pain and I can’t stand that. Your pain is my pain. Your sadness is mine as well. I will keep you safe and make sure you’re happy in this pack. This is your pack now, just as it is mine.” When she looked like she’s going to cry again, he took her into his arms and hugged her tigh
She seemed to return to her senses after tasting his blood. Her eyes widened as she froze atop him. What has she done? Seeing her shocked expression, Conrad understood that it was an unconscious reaction on her part. But still… how did she have the urge to mark her own mate? “I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to…” She looked at the mark she made and her gaze darkened. How could she carelessly mark him? Without his consent as well? She feels terrible. He breathed out and held her in place. “It’s fine.” His assurance made her feel even more guilty and he can see that. He caressed her back, trying to make her relaxed. Well, women can technically mark their partners but it was not necessary in mating. What’s required is for the male to mark his mate. “I like it.” That sentence from him was better, relieving her. She sighed as she stared at him with a remorseful expression. After a while, his hand moved from her back towards her arm
Alice woke up feeling tickled. Her mate was pressing kisses behind her ear and along her neck. She moaned lightly, grasping the arm around her waist. “Good morning.” Conrad slightly got up and pressed a kiss on her lips, eventually sitting on the bed. Ever since Liana came, they were able to relax and rest properly. They were very grateful. The woman was an elite vampire. She was born a vampire, not turned. Her father was an elite, whereas her mother was turned. She was able to explain what’s going on with Ice and assured them that there’s nothing to worry about. The red eyes are apparently due to feeling extreme emotions, mostly irritation. But it can also be due to extreme happiness or sadness. The need for blood would depend on several factors. As a baby, a small amount should suffice. Consuming more blood than necessary is also not recommended. It could get addicting and could prove troublesome. Liana didn’t elaborate but simply mentioned it’s a case most vampires try to avoid. T
“Give me a moment.” She replied and went to stare at herself in the mirror. Yes, they do have reflections. She took a few deep breaths while organizing the information she has gotten. She’s quite skilled and she knew the woman told her the truth when she asked questions.A new place… but how would she be treated in a place infested with wolves? Their natural enemy? Would it be better than her current situation? She hesitated and bit her lip. She had to play this well to her advantage. She took a few more deep breaths before standing straight and exuding the confidence she normally wears. She got out and the couple were waiting for her. She stood there, sizing them up. The way the woman clings to his side, such affection… she was tempted to sigh.“Then, should we get a table and chat? What would you like to eat?” The place is half-bar, half-restaurant.Liana nodded and gestured for them to lead the way. Caleb scanned her once, not letting his guard down. She rolled her eyes at him. Do
For a few months, they observed the twin’s growth, especially Ice. He seems fine and wasn’t troublesome. Well, all they do is eat, play and sleep. Cry and poop. That was the cycle. It’s fairly ordinary. Caleb has been coordinating with their members in the city, asking them to help locate a few vampires, preferably females. He’s assuming they would be easier to talk to. Huh. If it’s a male, he could already picture the aggression and the unwillingness to engage in a conversation. Their view on hybrids is similar to wolves, or any other species for that matter. They do not treat them kindly. Some may be indifferent but that’s not the general stance. Lourianne wanted to go with him and he hesitated. “We’ll see. If the person isn’t too dangerous, I will take you. Do you want to visit your parents?” Her eyes lit up. Of course, she does. Caleb chuckled seeing her excitement. “I’ll take you. I’ll let you stay with them for a while if it’s dangerous. If not, you’re with me.” “Great. Than
“Ah, shit…” Conrad softly cursed. “What is it?” Alice quickly asked him. It was as if he came to know something. “Could he be a full-pledged vampire? They’re normally pale and cold to the touch, right?” To him, it’s better than having a dead son. It doesn’t matter to him, he would accept the child. It’s still his own blood and flesh. The problem would be how other people perceive him. Not to mention, other packs may also have their own opinions. Alice heard him and carefully eyed both babies. They’re easy to distinguish because of it, even though their appearance looks the same at the moment. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. She also understands the possible implications of this birth. “We’ll figure it out later. What’s important is that they’re both here, alive and well. Healthy and safe. And you as well. Aren’t you tired? Rest for a while.” Conrad kissed her cheek before taking the second baby off her and hugging it. He figured the first baby would be better off on
“So, what happens now?” Alice asked as they watched those men leaving their territory.Conrad glanced at her. He’d been extremely relieved that she stayed and did not have any desire to leave. He’d been worried and every night he would somehow tell her how much he needs her. The first few days, he could tell she still entertained the idea, albeit not seriously. When she began to be productive around the pack, he began to relax and focus on his own responsibilities.“We rebuild the pack. We keep on training. We’ll improve security even more. We’ll be ready for any trouble.” He firmly replied to her, gently squeezing her hand. She audibly sighed as they eyed the forests. It’s not the end. It’s only the beginning. But she hoped to have a few years of peace before any kind of trouble arrives.Caleb and Lourianne wanted a separate home, but not too far from the pack house. It was fine. Not everyone lives in the pack house. It’s more like a headquarters for the Alpha and the other officers.
They rested but they couldn’t sleep properly. Early in the morning, both of them decided to go out and help with the clean-up and restoration of the territory. Mostly, it’s only the men they saw.Conrad told her to stay close. Along with everyone else, their expressions were solemn as they did their tasks. The men already managed to bury the dead last night. Their Alpha told them to rest as those who rested last night began to rise and show up on the grounds. Caleb also showed up, but his expression was grim. Lourianne was still in hysterics, blaming herself. It was difficult to keep her calm.“Can you accompany her?” He asked Alice but Conrad wanted to beat him up when he heard his request.“The hell are you asking her? You want my mate to break down as well?” He berated through the link. His younger brother grimaced. He hasn’t considered that. All he knew was that since Alice felt the same way before, she might be able to help Lourianne overcome her emotions.Alice noticed their exp
Conrad wanted to be quick. He doesn’t want to leave Alice for too long. This time, he wanted to be there for her, to be with her as they go through this loss and grieve. But alas, he couldn’t just not do any of his responsibilities as Alpha of the pack. Everyone who needed rest, he told them to take a break. Those who can still move around began the clean-up. They first dealt with their comrades, giving aid to those who are badly injured and in need of medical attention. Priorities. Marco brought Walter’s body deeper into the woods and began digging. They would set him on fire and witness his ruin before burying him. It has to be done. Otherwise, they can’t be sure if he planned some hocus-pocus or if his minions would. After their own were tended to, the rest went to gather the dead bodies. Their fallen members go in one side and the enemies go in another. Sure, they were cruder in handling the bastards’ bodies. There were cries and wailing as family members find their loved ones am
Conrad wouldn’t waste the opportunity. He knew such an action from Walter wasn’t natural. He could guess Alice has something to do with it.He clamped hard against his neck and ravaged him, tearing his flesh. There was a howl of pain and Alice struck him across the face. He told her to never position herself below an enemy, exposing her neck to vulnerability. He’s proud of how she’s applying the things she learned in real life. But it’s not that easy. Walter resisted and struggled, managing to swipe Alice away with such force that she was pushed back a few feet away. Conrad also persisted and wouldn’t let go of him. He was almost hugging the other wolf, keeping him in place. Alice returned within a minute and attacked his body. She wouldn’t dare hit him on the head, lest Conrad’s bite on him loosens. It became a matter of perseverance. Who would last longer? Who would tire out first? She could tell Conrad is already exhausted. He must have fought others earlier even before this bastar
Everything suddenly became a blur to her, which is bad. She’s moving on instinct and not truly aware of her surroundings and who she’s attacking. She fiercely growled before stalking behind a tree and calming herself. Both Caleb and Conrad told her how important it is for her to be fully conscious of her every action.Someone dared to sneak up on her and she mercilessly fought back. At this time, her nervousness died down, no longer rushing her and making her impatient. That’s good enough for her. She crouched down, laying low as she surveyed her surroundings again. The wolf within her began to feel agitated the longer they stay still. She began moving, pouncing on an enemy and sinking her fangs on their necks. She clawed at their bodies, striking them repeatedly until they no longer move. Whimpers and growls filled the air. Almost no one in sight is in their human form. This time she moved with purpose, methodically attacking one after another. Only by looking at her red eyes were wo
