Chapter 7

My mother opened the door. In the split second that the door creaked open and her face peeked through the crack, I had to stifle an urge to hug her.

Recalling the so-called heart attack that Connor had experienced when he walked through my body, I refrained from touching my mother for fear of inflicting the same pain on her.

I could only hover as close to her as possible, trying to pick up a little of her familiar warmth.

It had been less than a day since I saw her last, but she looked like she had aged decades. I could only imagine the despair and sorrow she had gone through over the last few hours.

When she saw that it was Connor at the door, her expression turned to one of white-hot fury. She shouted, "Get lost!"

Connor stopped her from slamming the door and pleaded, "Mrs. Clark, please! I want to see Rosie! Just one last time!"

My mother seemed genuinely stunned to hear that. "You want to see Rosie? What gives you the right to ask for that? You wouldn't have left her for dead
