Arriving at the office early for the first time in months, I found it quiet with few people around, which made me relieved that Rosie was not there. Rosie was one hell of a colleague whose only work in this office was to taunt the hell out of me. Feeling a bit off and wanting to avoid conflicts, I rested my head on the desk in an attempt to clear my mind. Laurel's words kept echoing in my head. Maybe she was right, I am nothing but a murderer. If only I knew, I wouldn't have requested for an Ice cream. If only I had listened to Mom, dad wouldn't have died. I'm a murderer…a murderer… I was so selfish that night. If only I hadn't forced dad to get me the ice cream, things would have been different. That night, when the car knocked into dad, I felt my world freeze. From then on it was as if the world kept reminding me of the blood I had on my hands now. I was selfish and that led to the early demise of my father. I hate myself for that. Tears continued to run down my face as I recounted everything once again. “Miss Andrea,” I heard Mr. King call my name sternly. I stood hastily, my hands behind me in respect then bowed to greet him. “Good Morning Mr. King. ” My eyes darted around the room, avoiding his gaze with all I had in me. I couldn't afford to be burned by the fire in his eyes. “Were you hired to sleep, Miss Andrea?” He made sure to emphasize my name. “Were you crying? Is anything the problem?” He asked gently, his voice soothing my hurt soul but I didn't want this. I hate those pity looks people give me. “No, I wasn't. Something got into my eyes.” I lied, once again looking everywhere but him. Thankfully, he didn't press on. “ If you say so. I need you to come with me to my office immediately.” He stated urgently, leading the way to his office. Homestly, the urgency in his voice scared me. If I get scolded again this time, I can proudly boast that will be my thousandth scolding in just three months. Sarcasm. So yeah, I've only worked for Mr. King for three months but those months were enough to traumatise me. The multiple taunts from my boss and co-workers were enough to mess with my mental health but I was glad to be able to stand through it, trying my best not to get into trouble. I’m just not in the mood to receive another set of scolds. Why can't you avoid trouble for just one day? Surprisingly, he held the door open for me and only closed it when I went inside. Did an angel decend today? Or perharps he slept on the good side of the bed today because what better explanation can be given to his actions today. “Sit down, let's talk.” This was yet another surprise. “Sit down?” I mumbled to myself silently. This man was indeed unpredictable. Even though he said those words himself, I was careful enough not to sit down. What if this was his way of getting something to scold me on? “I want to believe you are not deaf Miss Andrea.” He said, snapping me out of my thoughts. Maybe I wasn't in trouble after all. I heaved a sigh of relieve, thanking my stars. “I apologize sir.” I wouldn’t want to get in trouble since I wasn't in one already. "I do not want to waste you time Andrea but this is very urgent and needs to be addressed as such." He said, clutching his hands together and putting it on his desk. What was urgent and needed urgent treatment? I racked my brains trying to remember times I might have wronged him my serious than my clingy mistakes. Goodness! I gasped inwardly when a realization dawned on me. Was he apart to dismiss me from this place? Gosh! I can't take that. Where will I find a good paying job like this one? I clamped my hands together invouluntarily, praying silently that it shouldn't be what I was thinking. "Miss Andrea," I blinked, staring at Mr. King like a lost sheep. "Are you going to keep geyting lost in thoughts?" He seethe in anger. I couldn't do anything than to make a slight bow which he understood. He sighed, then went ahead to speak. “I have an offer for you-” He paused, his eyes locked into mine with an intensity I couldn't overlook. An offer for me? Okay, that's a relief at least my dismissal letter has not been handed to me but what offer can he possibly make? Andrea! You are losing your mind again. You better listen before he throws you out of this office angrily. "What offer, Mr. King?" I asked quietly, more like mumbled to myself but he heard it. “Marry me and I will pay you. A contract marriage.” He finally dropped the bomb, causing my eyes to widen in surprise. I gazed straight into his eyes, trying to find out if he was joking but clearly he wasn't. Unknownly, I burst into a fist of laughter, forgetting where I sat at the moment. Who wouldn't burst into laughter at this offer? Like, who the hell makes a marriage offer in this era? "This is not a joke Miss Andrea!" He banged his fist into his table while I jumped in shock, my laugh faltering. "You are not joking?" I still asked even seeing his face all red from anger and his nose flaring. "Does this look like a joke to you? I told you before that this matter his urgent and needs to be attended urgently, didn't I? I nodded once agaim, acknowledging the truth in his words. It was at this moment that his words settled deep within me, hitting me like a ton of bricks. Marry him? How? Why? I have only just known him for about two to three months. What is he talking about? Why would he make such an offer and even go to the extent of wanting to pay?* Three months later *~ Derrik ~I found out Andrea was pregnant after the incident. I was sad but accepted it as it is her only way of keeping memories of Max. She had admitted they had something once but were just friends. “Someone is here to see you Derrik.” Brian announced. I moved out to see who it was. “What are you doing here?” I asked the woman in front of me. The woman who gave birth to me. “I got to know it was your special day today Derrik. I just came to witness this day.” She explained herself. “I didn't ask for your presence here.” I was trying to stay as calm as ever. “I know you didn't. I only came here as an observer not here to wreck havoc.” I studied her for a while and she was sincere. “I appreciate you being here.” I said after a while. “Catalina!” Dad screamed out of nowhere. “What are you doing here?” He came closer and asked with creased brows. “I just wanted to be present today.”“You didn't have to be here. No invitation was sent to you. That should
~ Andrea ~“The boss is here!” They shouted. These people were hooligans and I have no business with them. Why will they send them to capture me? For what reason? “Well, well, well, see who we have here. The almighty Andrea.” Their boss is a lady? “Take that thing off her head.” I heard her say. Shortly afterwards, I opened my eyes and was blinded by the lights so I had to close it and open it again. There she stood, with a mischievous smirk on her face. “I want to hear her talk. Take that thing out as well. Make sure you do it roughly.” The tape was removed just like she asked them to and I felt my mouth burning. “You!” I spat. “Yes, me Andrea. Your very own rival. Rosie.” She moved close to me. “How I miss seeing your ugly face. Where did you run off to? I was waiting to get revenge for how you and Derrik humiliated me in front of everyone.” She ran her hand through my face. “I want to design your face with this knife right here.” She showed me a little knife. “But I will hold
~ Derrik ~“Keep calm. She is gone now.”“I am calm Brian. I am.” “You don’t look so. Let's loosen up tonight Derrik.” He said again. This guy will jump over every opportunity to go to the club. “I have kids, Mister.” I rolled my eyes at him. “Wtf! I have a child too.” I laughed at his silly behavior. “Andrea hadn't called me today Brian.” It was so unlike her. I know we just got back together but she would have informed me of everything she had to do today. “Lover boy. You don't expect her to call you every single day. Besides, she is extra busy now. She owns the Catalano industries and you want her to spend more time with you?” He laughed it off. “You ass! Get out of my office.” I took a book attempting to hit him. He runs off laughing so loud that the people on the very last floor will hear him laugh. I joined in the laughter after he went. He was right. Andrea has been an extra busy woman. Handling lots at the same time. I never thought she would be able to handle somethin
~ Derrik ~ I watched Andrea become a stronger woman by each passing day. I realized how attached she might have felt toward Max. Getting back together with her was a dream come true. Seeing her smile directed to me and no one else and feeling her love every single day was enough for me. “Earth to Derrik!” Brian shouted, pushing me out of my thoughts. “Why will you do that man?” If looks could kill, he would have been dead by now. “You were smiling like a fool Derrik. I know this is definitely because of Andrea. “Yes she is the reason behind my smile.” “Love is in the air!” Brian screamed louder.“What brings you here Mr. Morino?” I asked, returning to my professional mood.“The contract with the investor has been secured.”“Wow, congratulations man.” Brian has been working on the project for a while now and I am happy he has been able to secure a contract. “Let's celebrate tonight buddy.” Brian always brings the idea of wasting in the club. “I'm no longer going to the club B
~ Andrea ~“I wasn't aware she was going to act that way.” I heard a voice say. “I think she was very close to him. So close that she became attached to him.” Another said. I opened my eyes slowly and stared around. Then my eyes landed on them. Mr. Fazio and the doctor. “She is awake.” The doctor told Mr. Fazio, moving closer to me. “How are you feeling?” He asked. My mind was hazy. I didn't know what happened. I couldn't remember. “How are you?” He asked again. “Max,” That was the only word that came out of my mouth. Then it dawned in me. I came here to meet Max only to find him dead. “Max,” I called, my voice barely a whisper and tried to stand but my head felt lighter than usual. “Stay back, miss.” The doctor held me back. “Max, he is not dead right?” I looked at their faces and burst into laughter. “I knew he was not dead. You people are too bad at playing pranks. Can you tell him to come and meet me now?”They only stared at each other. “Is anything the problem? I asked
~ Andrea ~I was still dressing the kids to take them over to meet Derrik when I got a call from an unknown number and I was a little skeptical but I answered it afterwards. “Hello, I'm I speaking to Miss Andrea?” A man asked over the phone. His strong Italian accent is noticeable. “Yes I am.” I answered. “We will need you here Miss Andrea. Mr. Max Catalano requests for your presence.” Why will Max ask for my presence indirectly when he can just call. “How do I trust you?” I wanted to be sure. I can't just go there without knowing the truth. “Just arrived here first ma'am. You will understand everything.” He ended the call before I could ask my next question. This was rude. Anyway, I forgot about that and still got the kids ready. “Mommy, who was that?” Lina asked. She must have heard the conversation that transpired between us since she was close to me. “Baby, I've taught you not to eavesdrop on people's conversation right?” She nodded. “Now what do you say?” “I am sorry mo
