Andrea
Arriving at the office early for the first time in months, I found it quiet with few people around, which made me relieved that Rosie was not there. Rosie was one hell of a colleague whose only work in this office was to taunt the hell out of me. Feeling a bit off and wanting to avoid conflicts, I rested my head on the desk in an attempt to clear my mind. Laurel's words kept echoing in my head. Maybe she was right, I am nothing but a murderer. If only I knew, I wouldn't have requested for an Ice cream. If only I had listened to Mom, dad wouldn't have died. I'm a murderer…a murderer… I was so selfish that night. If only I hadn't forced dad to get me the ice cream, things would have been different. That night, when the car knocked into dad, I felt my world freeze. From then on it was as if the world kept reminding me of the blood I had on my hands now. I was selfish and that led to the early demise of my father. I hate myself for that. Tears continued to run down my face as I recounted everything once again. “Miss Andrea,” I heard Mr. King call my name sternly. I stood hastily, my hands behind me in respect then bowed to greet him. “Good Morning Mr. King. ” My eyes darted around the room, avoiding his gaze with all I had in me. I couldn't afford to be burned by the fire in his eyes. “Were you hired to sleep, Miss Andrea?” He made sure to emphasize my name. “Were you crying? Is anything the problem?” He asked gently, his voice soothing my hurt soul but I didn't want this. I hate those pity looks people give me. “No, I wasn't. Something got into my eyes.” I lied, once again looking everywhere but him. Thankfully, he didn't press on. “ If you say so. I need you to come with me to my office immediately.” He stated urgently, leading the way to his office. Homestly, the urgency in his voice scared me. If I get scolded again this time, I can proudly boast that will be my thousandth scolding in just three months. Sarcasm. So yeah, I've only worked for Mr. King for three months but those months were enough to traumatise me. The multiple taunts from my boss and co-workers were enough to mess with my mental health but I was glad to be able to stand through it, trying my best not to get into trouble. I’m just not in the mood to receive another set of scolds. Why can't you avoid trouble for just one day? Surprisingly, he held the door open for me and only closed it when I went inside. Did an angel decend today? Or perharps he slept on the good side of the bed today because what better explanation can be given to his actions today. “Sit down, let's talk.” This was yet another surprise. “Sit down?” I mumbled to myself silently. This man was indeed unpredictable. Even though he said those words himself, I was careful enough not to sit down. What if this was his way of getting something to scold me on? “I want to believe you are not deaf Miss Andrea.” He said, snapping me out of my thoughts. Maybe I wasn't in trouble after all. I heaved a sigh of relieve, thanking my stars. “I apologize sir.” I wouldn’t want to get in trouble since I wasn't in one already. "I do not want to waste you time Andrea but this is very urgent and needs to be addressed as such." He said, clutching his hands together and putting it on his desk. What was urgent and needed urgent treatment? I racked my brains trying to remember times I might have wronged him my serious than my clingy mistakes. Goodness! I gasped inwardly when a realization dawned on me. Was he apart to dismiss me from this place? Gosh! I can't take that. Where will I find a good paying job like this one? I clamped my hands together invouluntarily, praying silently that it shouldn't be what I was thinking. "Miss Andrea," I blinked, staring at Mr. King like a lost sheep. "Are you going to keep geyting lost in thoughts?" He seethe in anger. I couldn't do anything than to make a slight bow which he understood. He sighed, then went ahead to speak. “I have an offer for you-” He paused, his eyes locked into mine with an intensity I couldn't overlook. An offer for me? Okay, that's a relief at least my dismissal letter has not been handed to me but what offer can he possibly make? Andrea! You are losing your mind again. You better listen before he throws you out of this office angrily. "What offer, Mr. King?" I asked quietly, more like mumbled to myself but he heard it. “Marry me and I will pay you. A contract marriage.” He finally dropped the bomb, causing my eyes to widen in surprise. I gazed straight into his eyes, trying to find out if he was joking but clearly he wasn't. Unknownly, I burst into a fist of laughter, forgetting where I sat at the moment. Who wouldn't burst into laughter at this offer? Like, who the hell makes a marriage offer in this era? "This is not a joke Miss Andrea!" He banged his fist into his table while I jumped in shock, my laugh faltering. "You are not joking?" I still asked even seeing his face all red from anger and his nose flaring. "Does this look like a joke to you? I told you before that this matter his urgent and needs to be attended urgently, didn't I? I nodded once agaim, acknowledging the truth in his words. It was at this moment that his words settled deep within me, hitting me like a ton of bricks. Marry him? How? Why? I have only just known him for about two to three months. What is he talking about? Why would he make such an offer and even go to the extent of wanting to pay?Derrik King "Why are you forcing me into this dad? How man times do I have to keep saying this. I am not getting married to Isabea and that's final." This has become an everyday thing. Fighting about one Goddamn thing, to get married to Isabella. Who in their right senses will get married to a spoilt brat like Isabella? The fact that her family owns multiple business in this country has gotten into her head. Then here is dad, forcing me to get ready for a marriage I know nothing about in two weeks. Two freaking weeks. "Listen to me young man, you are getting married to Isabella and that's final. I am not changing my mind. You have two weeks, just two weeks to mget married to her. Get ready." My dad stomped out of the parlour angrily. This week has been hell. I can't even go to work with myopeace of mind intact. This man always finds ways to bring this topic up. I got into my car then called the only person who came in mind. "Brian," I sighed after calling his name. "Man what
*Andrea* Getting to my office, I did not even think much about what transpired between myself and my boss. Becoming a contracted wife wasn't a good idea and Mr. King was not ready to tell me his reason for that. I can't just venture into it. What was there to think about? I was sure I would never accept such an outrageous proposal. ****** Lunch came by too fast as I made my way to the company's cafeteria to get food. Even after telling myself not to think about that proposal, my mind wasn't having that and kept reminding me. Thankfully, I am free during lunch time as my boss eats out and not at the cafeteria. After I got my food, I was heading towards a table when something or somebody almost tripped me over. My body was almost getting to the floor and I had my eyes closed expecting the worst. I opened my eyes when I noticed I was yet to touch the ground, only to notice that I was in Mr. King's arms. Worse of it, my food was all over his suit! I knew I was dead this t
Andrea Arriving at home, I met the twins crying their eyes out with mom lying lifelessly on the floor. “Goodness, Andrea you are here. I was so scared.” Lisa said as she ran to give me a hug while crying. Their eyes were puffy from crying so much. “We have to get mom to the hospital, we can't let anything happen to her. I will get a cab just wait here for me.” Irushed my words. We can't afford to lose her. Not after losing dad. I spent an agonizing five minutes outside the hot sun before I was finally able to get a cab. The cab driver was kind enough to help us get mom into the car. I kept praying nothing happens to her till we got to the hospital. The nurses were fast to rush our mother to a room for examination. I kept pacing back and forth, thinking about the things that might be happening in the examination room. A doctor suddenly came out after several minutes and we rushed immediately to the doctor. “Doctor, what is wrong with our mother? Is she okay?” I asked,
* Andrea *Agreeing to his proposal was daring but I need the money to save my mother. I had to convince my sisters to leave the hospital with me. As usual, Laurel did not listen to me so Lisa had to come through. I made sure they ate well before they slept. I could not get a good sleep as I was worried about my mother and the situation I was putting myself in. I am currently on my way to the office after I made sure everything was set. Laurel and Lisa wanted to be at the hospital so they skipped school. I remember clearly how Lisa questioned me about where I was going to get the money. ~Few moments ago~“Can I speak to you, Andrea?”“I'm so sorry Lisa, but I have to leave immediately.”“I know how much it hurts you whenever Laurel blames you, and I also know you did do anything to save mom.”“What are you driving at Lisa?”“Andrea, be honest with me. Where are you getting the money from?”“That doesn't matter, the good thing is that mom will be saved.”I said with a wide smile t
~Andrea~ “One more time Andrea, this depends on you.” Derrik said, staring me right in the eyes. Shortly afterwards, I heard my phone blare and the caller was none other than Lisa, my sister. I took in deep breath and shut my eyes. I knew her call was related to mom so I had to act fast. Aiish! I hate that I am in this situation right now but money is more important here. I will think about how to convince my family somehow, but first, I need to sign this paper. “I will sign it and that is just because I need the money.” I finally said after much pondering. Saying that, I took the contract, read through it again then took a deep breath before signing on the buttom of the paper. Now I only have to wait for what is in store of me. I handed over the paper to Mr. King who took it without hesitation. “Good Andrea, good. Now that this is done, I will give you the money as said earlier and add up the rest later.” Mr. King took the paper, glancing through it with a smiley face. D
~Andrea~ It's been a while since the surgeon went to the ER. We have been waiting to get any information about how the surgery is going but all to no avail. I kept pacing back and forth, my sweaty palms on my chin wondering what was happening in there. “Andrea -” Lisa called with a tired voice. “Do you think mom is fine? The doctors have been in there since morning and it's afternoon now.” I noticed the little glimmer of hope in her eyes. Not wanting to shatter that, I rushed to her and held her hands. “Listen baby, we have to stay positive. Have it in mind that she is fine and I assure you, that will happen.” I forced out a smile, trying to cover my own fear. “I hope so, Andrea.” She sighed and took her hands away from mine. I could tell they were worried and I had to be there for them. After Laurel's question earlier, she kept quiet the whole time mom was taken into the Emergency room. Maybe I should talk to her. Who knows, she might listen to me or probably speak more cal
~ Andrea ~It's a beautiful brand new day and I am so excited. Nope..not because I am going to meet Derrik but because of the events that happened the day before. Spending time with my siblings was so good. I don't remember the last time I sat with Laurel without receiving accusations, but it happened yesterday. A Miracle!!! I got out of bed and rushed to take my shower. I needed to see Derrik before going to see my mother and probably get back to work. Feeling the water on my skin in the shower made me calm. Yesterday was such a good day and I hope today is too. I started singing ‘Water’ by Tyler while I continued to shower. I believe I was in there for almost an hour forgetting the world around me when I finally heard a voice from inside my bedroom. “Andrea Price!! Are you in there?”Aaah! Lisa just found the perfect time to disturb me. “You didn't have to shout out my name!” I shouted back ensuring she heard me loud and clear. “We have somewhere to be remember? Better get
~~ Derrik King ~~When Andrea called to agree to my offer, I was both excited and disappointed. Excited because I've got somebody to help me escape spending the rest of my life with Isabella and disappointed because I knew she was in for the money. Just when I thought she was different and would agree because she wants to help, not for the money. I expected too much from her. I know I did not tell her my reason for that but she agreed desperately. I spoke rudely to her when I called her a gold digger, but I couldn't help it. Her desperation for the money reminded me of my mother. I never intended to make any rules in the contract, but seeing she wanted the money, she might as well breach the contract and follow another guy for money. After my call with her, I informed my lawyer to get the contract papers ready. The night when I went to bed, the only thought in my mind was her being a gold digger like other women, like my mom. *****************************I went to the office
~ Andrea ~It's been eight months since my agreement with Derrik. I don't know where this is going anymore. We both agreed it was going to be a fake relationship but I was catching feelings and I don't know if it is a mutual feeling or perhaps, a one-sided feeling. We do things real couples do in their married life. We go on dates and make love countless times but I don't know where this stands. Just four months. Four months and everything will be over. I stared in the mirror, my hair in an updo bun, dressed for yet another day for work. If all this ends, do I still stand a chance of keeping my job? Or do I get dismissed? “Andrea, are you still in there?” Derrik called out. I got out of the bathroom and met him seated on the bed. He stood smiling and walking towards me. He placed a light kiss on my neck. “Mm.. Andrea,” He mumbled while kissing other places. “We have to get to work Derrik.” I pushed him slightly and I made my way outside. I was going to put a stop to all this roma
~ Andrea ~Derrik had asked one of his drivers to drop me off at the hotel. I got out of the car with a scarf covering my face. This has become the new normal in the past few days. I called Vale again and again. Just when I was about to give up calling, she answered. “Goodness Vale!” I exclaimed in relief. You scared me . Are you okay? I have been trying to reach you since yesterday.” No amount of words can express how happy I was right now. “I am fine Andrea. I lost my phone yesterday.” “Thank goodness you are safe. I am in front of the hotel you are lodged in.” I told her. “In front? Why?” She sounded a bit off. “Like I said before, I was worried and wanted to check if you are Alright.” I answered, confused by her reaction. “Stay right there. I will be out in a minute.” She hung up leaving me both confused and worried but I still waited as she said. “Hey,” She was breathing heavily like someone who had been chased. I looked at her closely to check if she really was okay and i
~ Andrea ~Used me as a bait really? As per what? What shocked me was the fact that it wasn't Carl. I mean, I heard his conversation that day. Argh! I was just so stupid. How did I expect the Adelaine to be the same as the one leaving bad reviews. It's not like there is only one Adelaine in the whole world. Derrik was just too much. He knew who was behind this and still gave me a hard time. I needed someone to talk to and the only person that came to mind was Valentine. I called her and waited for her to answer but she didn't even after the third ring which was surprising. Vale always answers my call no matter what. Maybe she was just busy and will return the call afterwards. I was still looking at my phone screen to see if she would call when I heard a knock on my door. “Come inside,” I was thinking it might be Derrik turns out it was Carl. I am so ashamed to stand before him right now. “Hey,” I said nervously. “You don't have to be nervous around me, Andrea. I understand you
~ Derrik ~I was going to meet Adelaine in the same bookshop I had met her. Just hope I will be able to catch the culprit on the spot. I drove through the familiar environment with amazing scenery as always. I walked towards the bookshop. This is the only way to get hold of him red handed. When I entered, Adelaine ushered me to a place in the bookshop. “You will be able to hear everything from this angle. Make sure you make good use of it Mr. King. I am counting on you. ” She said.I was still in the same area waiting to hear something. I was on the verge of giving up when I heard them talk. “Why did you call me here, Adelaine? You know it's risky.” The voice said. I peeped through the little hole to get hold of the face of this person but it was a little impossible. I knew who it was but needed to confirm. I had started recording immediately I heard their footsteps. “I can't do this anymore please. I can't continue spreading false news about someone who did me no wrong.” Adelain
~ Derrik ~I saw Andrea leave the office alone without informing me and I don't blame her. It was because of my actions earlier so I take the blame. I decided to catch up with Brian so I called him for a meet up. He answered on the very first ring. “You care for a meet up Brian?” I asked and waited for a response. “Yes, why not? It's been a while since we went out together. The usual Irish club?” “Yes. I will be there soon.” We ended the call. I sat in the car and drove to Irish. As always, Brian was there when I arrived. We went to our usual VIP spot. “I got us some wine.” Brian said as I settled. “Who is responsible for the rumors?”I looked at Brian for a while before telling him who it was. “That is quite surprising. Are you sure that's the right person?” Brian asked. “Yes. I am very sure. I just want him to hold unto the bait I have set and when he does, I won't let him off the hook easily.”“What are you planning on doing?”“If he went to that extent to destroy me, why wo
~ Andrea ~That evening, I went home alone. I was thinking about going to my formal place but that will raise too many questions I am not ready to answer. “You came back alone?” Mr. Johan asked, still focused on the television. “Yes. Derrik should be here soon.” I didn't wait for any reply. The only thing I wanted was to get a good rest after the stressful day. I wasn't hungry or mayne I lost appetite for ang food right now. The cold water was a pain relief as I settled in. I didn't realize I had fallen asleep in the tub until I heard a knock that woke me. I knew it was Derrik so I didn't bother to respond till I heard it the third time and decided to check out who it was. It wasn't Derrik like I had expected but rather Miss Karen. “You haven't eaten anything Andrea. I brought you food.”“Thank you Miss Karen but I don't have the appetite for anything now. Can you please take it out?” I was dressing up while speaking with Miss Karen. She ignored me and set the food on a table on
~ Andrea ~I wanted to know what was wrong with Rosie but she obviously wasn't going to tell me. I went to the office and started surfing the internet just to check if things were okay. I had to speak to Carl about it so I went to his office. I met Carl on the phone with someone but he hid it immediately he saw me. Why is everybody acting weird in this office? “Hey Carl, did I disrupt your call?” I asked. “Oh no, you didn't. Anyway, why are you here?”He sounded relieved. “I wanted to ask if the reviews are still coming out good.”“Yes they are.”“Okay then. That is all I need to know. I will get going now.” Something told me to stay behind and what I discovered was shocking. I still had my ear in the door when it opened revealing Carl. “You are still here Andrea?” “Oh yes. I am going to my office now.” I rushed to my office and waited for Derrik to return. I was starting to be impatient when he wasn't coming so I went to his office to wait for him. I was deep in thought when I h
~ Derrik ~ I woke up to see the other side of the bed empty. Meaning Andrea was awake already. Thinking she might be downstairs, I washed up and got ready for work. I went to the kitchen when I did not see her at the parlor. The kitchen was empty as well. I saw dad on the couch and decided to ask him. “Good morning dad. Have you seen Andrea?” He turned from the television program he was watching to look at me. “Yes. She left for work without having breakfast. Is everything okay between you two? What about the spreading rumors?” Dad asked. “We are working on it and yes dad, everything is okay between us. I have to rush to the office now. I will let you know if there is anything.” I drove to work this time around without my driver. Getting to the office, I went straight to Andrea's office and met the office empty. Where could she have gone to? If she left home, then she should be at the office..or maybe she is with her family. It was at this moment it dawned on me that I had nobod
~ Derrik ~I met Andrea in my office when I went there. She looked restless. “Is something the problem?” I inquired. “Oh you are back.” She jumped up in surprise when she heard my voice. “Yes I am. Why are you here?” I took a seat across from her. “I–I was waiting for your return.” She shuttered. I felt there was something wrong with her. She has been acting weird since the news about the review came out. Does she have a hand in it? No, no. I don't think she will do something like that. “Andrea, you have been acting weird lately. Are you sure there is nothing wrong?”“I am fine Derrik. I will go to my office now.” She rushed out immediately. I leaned back in my chair and closed my eyes. Soon, everything will be settled. I still had my eyes closed when I heard my phone ring. Brian. It's been a while since I heard from Brian. Ever since we had an argument about Andrea, we hardly speak to each other. I know it was foolish of me to think Andrea was trying to destroy my friendship
