Andrea
Arriving at the office early for the first time in months, I found it quiet with few people around, which made me relieved that Rosie was not there. Rosie was one hell of a colleague whose only work in this office was to taunt the hell out of me. Feeling a bit off and wanting to avoid conflicts, I rested my head on the desk in an attempt to clear my mind. Laurel's words kept echoing in my head. Maybe she was right, I am nothing but a murderer. If only I knew, I wouldn't have requested for an Ice cream. If only I had listened to Mom, dad wouldn't have died. I'm a murderer…a murderer… I was so selfish that night. If only I hadn't forced dad to get me the ice cream, things would have been different. That night, when the car knocked into dad, I felt my world freeze. From then on it was as if the world kept reminding me of the blood I had on my hands now. I was selfish and that led to the early demise of my father. I hate myself for that. Tears continued to run down my face as I recounted everything once again. “Miss Andrea,” I heard Mr. King call my name sternly. I stood hastily, my hands behind me in respect then bowed to greet him. “Good Morning Mr. King. ” My eyes darted around the room, avoiding his gaze with all I had in me. I couldn't afford to be burned by the fire in his eyes. “Were you hired to sleep, Miss Andrea?” He made sure to emphasize my name. “Were you crying? Is anything the problem?” He asked gently, his voice soothing my hurt soul but I didn't want this. I hate those pity looks people give me. “No, I wasn't. Something got into my eyes.” I lied, once again looking everywhere but him. Thankfully, he didn't press on. “ If you say so. I need you to come with me to my office immediately.” He stated urgently, leading the way to his office. Homestly, the urgency in his voice scared me. If I get scolded again this time, I can proudly boast that will be my thousandth scolding in just three months. Sarcasm. So yeah, I've only worked for Mr. King for three months but those months were enough to traumatise me. The multiple taunts from my boss and co-workers were enough to mess with my mental health but I was glad to be able to stand through it, trying my best not to get into trouble. I’m just not in the mood to receive another set of scolds. Why can't you avoid trouble for just one day? Surprisingly, he held the door open for me and only closed it when I went inside. Did an angel decend today? Or perharps he slept on the good side of the bed today because what better explanation can be given to his actions today. “Sit down, let's talk.” This was yet another surprise. “Sit down?” I mumbled to myself silently. This man was indeed unpredictable. Even though he said those words himself, I was careful enough not to sit down. What if this was his way of getting something to scold me on? “I want to believe you are not deaf Miss Andrea.” He said, snapping me out of my thoughts. Maybe I wasn't in trouble after all. I heaved a sigh of relieve, thanking my stars. “I apologize sir.” I wouldn’t want to get in trouble since I wasn't in one already. "I do not want to waste you time Andrea but this is very urgent and needs to be addressed as such." He said, clutching his hands together and putting it on his desk. What was urgent and needed urgent treatment? I racked my brains trying to remember times I might have wronged him my serious than my clingy mistakes. Goodness! I gasped inwardly when a realization dawned on me. Was he apart to dismiss me from this place? Gosh! I can't take that. Where will I find a good paying job like this one? I clamped my hands together invouluntarily, praying silently that it shouldn't be what I was thinking. "Miss Andrea," I blinked, staring at Mr. King like a lost sheep. "Are you going to keep geyting lost in thoughts?" He seethe in anger. I couldn't do anything than to make a slight bow which he understood. He sighed, then went ahead to speak. “I have an offer for you-” He paused, his eyes locked into mine with an intensity I couldn't overlook. An offer for me? Okay, that's a relief at least my dismissal letter has not been handed to me but what offer can he possibly make? Andrea! You are losing your mind again. You better listen before he throws you out of this office angrily. "What offer, Mr. King?" I asked quietly, more like mumbled to myself but he heard it. “Marry me and I will pay you. A contract marriage.” He finally dropped the bomb, causing my eyes to widen in surprise. I gazed straight into his eyes, trying to find out if he was joking but clearly he wasn't. Unknownly, I burst into a fist of laughter, forgetting where I sat at the moment. Who wouldn't burst into laughter at this offer? Like, who the hell makes a marriage offer in this era? "This is not a joke Miss Andrea!" He banged his fist into his table while I jumped in shock, my laugh faltering. "You are not joking?" I still asked even seeing his face all red from anger and his nose flaring. "Does this look like a joke to you? I told you before that this matter his urgent and needs to be attended urgently, didn't I? I nodded once agaim, acknowledging the truth in his words. It was at this moment that his words settled deep within me, hitting me like a ton of bricks. Marry him? How? Why? I have only just known him for about two to three months. What is he talking about? Why would he make such an offer and even go to the extent of wanting to pay?~ Andrea ~I was still dressing the kids to take them over to meet Derrik when I got a call from an unknown number and I was a little skeptical but I answered it afterwards. “Hello, I'm I speaking to Miss Andrea?” A man asked over the phone. His strong Italian accent is noticeable. “Yes I am.” I answered. “We will need you here Miss Andrea. Mr. Max Catalano requests for your presence.” Why will Max ask for my presence indirectly when he can just call. “How do I trust you?” I wanted to be sure. I can't just go there without knowing the truth. “Just arrived here first ma'am. You will understand everything.” He ended the call before I could ask my next question. This was rude. Anyway, I forgot about that and still got the kids ready. “Mommy, who was that?” Lina asked. She must have heard the conversation that transpired between us since she was close to me. “Baby, I've taught you not to eavesdrop on people's conversation right?” She nodded. “Now what do you say?” “I am sorry mo
~ Derrik ~I stood staring at the cab she got in till it was no longer in my sight. “Was that really Andrea with those kids?” Brian came behind me. “Let's leave here Brian.” We got into a car and drove to my house. *******“Calm down Derrik. Everything should be sorted soon.” I played deaf to his words and continued pacing. “Why did you call me Derrick? I had to rush over.” I had called dad to tell him what I had just found out. “I saw Andrea today.”“Who?! This is one of the silliest jokes you have ever made.” He laughed it off. “I am serious, dad. I saw her, with two kids.”“With kids?” “Yes dad. With kids. I don't know what to do right now. Have been thinking if the kids are hers.”“They called her mommy.” Brian chimed in. “There is only one way to find out.” Dad said. “Let's get a check done immediately on them.” He turned and tapped on my shoulders. “Call Rick to get that done in an hour.” I nodded and relayed the message to Rick. ******Rick called when I was still pa
~ Andrea ~ “We can't find the kids Andrea.” This was the message I got the moment I came out of the restroom. My heart skipped a beat. “You can't find who?” I asked to be sure. “The kids, Andrea.” Laurel answered. “What do you mean? You can't find my kids? I left them under your care and stepped aside for only a few minutes! You couldn't take care of them!” I scolded.“We are sorry Andrea.” “Sorry I will not bring back my kids. Let's look for them.” My heart kept racing as I searched every single place for them. We met at the same place again, none of us with the kids. “Goodness! I shouldn't have brought them out here.” I scolded myself while in tears. Lisa and Laurel kept looking at me. I was thinking about ways to find the kids when Laurel pointed out. “Andrea, look at this.” I checked the surveillance monitor and saw them. “My kids!” I ran through the shelf till I got to where they were. “Liam! Lina! Why did you two leave your Aunties? You made mommy scared.” I hugged them
~ Andrea ~ We stood at the airport waiting for a taxi to take us to Lisa and Laurel's apartment. Back to New York again. The same place that carries so many memories. “Mom, I have been trying to call Max but he is not answering. I am worried.” Max had helped us a lot through our struggles that was why I gave Liam and Lisa his name to show our appreciation. “He must be busy with work.” I nodded. Maybe he was extra busy. I will try calling him later. We got into the cab, which was to take us to their apartment. The kids were marveled at the sight of the city. We finally got to the apartment and were met by Lisa and Laurel who were expecting our arrival. “Andrea!” They still acted like kids even at this age. I stood as they hugged me shedding uncontrollable tears. “Look who turned into cry babies now.” I teased them and they cleaned their faces immediately. They took Liam and Lina with them inside. I watched the familiar environment. The same house we had stayed in but it has been
~ Andrea ~“Liam! Lina! You two are going to be late!” I screamed my lungs out trying to call the kids. They forbid me from entering their room saying Max will dress them up. I paced back and forth waiting for them to come out. “And how do we look?” I turned when I heard Liam talk. He was dressed in a tuxedo, side parted hair and a crisp white shirt. He had a wristwatch as well, looking like a real gentleman. “You look handsome baby.” He smiled. “What about me?” Lina came from behind and stood beside her brother. She was also dressed in a short ball gown with a pink hair band and a little handbag. “You look like a princess angel.” I complimented. “And our stylish is– Uncle Max!” They said in unison as he also came from behind then dressed as handsome as ever, in the same tuxedo as Liam. “We are already late. Let's leave now.” I held Liam’s hand while Max held Lina's. ******We got into the school and met with other parents as well. The place was slightly crowded. We were all l
Planning to leave Sicily~ Andrea ~Max fell to the side of the bed while I breathed heavily. I tried standing but my legs wouldn't allow me. Max had covered up now with the same towel. The door burst open while we were still laying there. I stood in shock as Lina and Liam came inside. They stood by the doorway then ran over to me. “Mommy, are you okay?” Lina asked, concerned. “Why do you ask that baby?” I questioned. “We heard you scream and thought something was happening to you.” Liam answered. I feel my face heat up in embarrassment. “Why is uncle Max not ready for breakfast, mommy?” Lina asked again. “Because uncle Max already had dessert.” Max answered the kids, winking at me. I haven't felt this embarrassed in my life. “Is that true mommy? Can I also have the desert?” She asked again, looking between Max and I. Max was laughing while I was thinking of a way to answer her question. I glared at him but he continued. “Um..baby, why not ask your uncle Max that question?” He
