CHAPTER 004

BACK TO PRESENT......

Amaya's whole body shook,as she cried bitterly. She had lost her family in the twinkle of an eye,and she was yet to believe it.

"How could a human being be that heartless to kill people without remorse? How could a human being be that beastly as to kill little children without second thoughts? Innocent children who haven't done any wrong." Amaya wondered.

"Please forgive me Ethan and Norah" she said inwardly and sniffed. "I promised to always protect you both, but I couldn't even lift a finger. I watched you both die and I couldn't save you". She cursed herself mentally.

She was still lost in thought when a hand tapped her shoulder. She flinched in shock and almost reacted with a punch. She turned swiftly to see a girl who looked her age, standing behind her and wearing what looked like a maid's uniform.

The girl was pretty,with big brown eyes,an oval face, small red lips and a slim figure.

Amaya looked at her open-mouthed for almost a minute before the girl snapped her back to reality.

"You must be the new girl the Don brought back earlier" the girl said in her tiny angelic voice.

"And who the hell are you?" Amaya asked in a mean voice. Everyone and everything that was connected to the Don was a forever enemy of hers. She wouldn't mind snapping the girl's neck if she happened to be one of the Don's people.

"I'm Sophia. I'm your roommate and also one of the maids here" the girl replied, stretching her hand for a handshake.

"What do you want from me" Amaya asked, without taking Sophia's hand. She wasn't in the mood for pleasantries.

"I came in a few minutes ago and I saw you crying. I thought maybe you needed someone to talk to" Sophia replied causally,but with a note of concern underneath.

"Can I ask you for a favor?" Amaya said.

"Of course" Sophia replied eagerly.

"Stay. the. hell. away. from. me" Amaya said, emphasizing on every single word.

Sophia was momentarily taken aback and wanted to say something, but a glare from Amaya shut the words down her throat.

She nodded gently before saying in a low soft tone, " I'll be here if you need someone".

And with that, she walked over to her corner in the room. Picking up her nightwear,she walked into the bathroom.

Amaya sighed when she heard the bathroom door close. She knew she was being unnecessarily harsh to Sophia,but she was just being cautious. Sophia seemed to be a nice girl and an easy going person.

Sophia walked out of the shower some minutes later,and went straight to her corner.

"I'm Amaya" she began slowly. "And I'm sorry for being unnecessarily harsh earlier"

Sophia paused,then turned around slowly. She noticed Amaya's head was down and she slowly walked over to her.

"Can I sit?" she asked quietly,and Amaya nodded.

Sophia sat down cautiously and Amaya looked at her.

"It's okay,you don't have to feel bad. I understand that you were being cautious, and looking out for yourself." Sophia began, studying Amaya's expression.

"You must be going through a whole lot,and I totally understand. But don't be too hard on yourself" she said softly again.

Amaya had thought that she would explode or even ignore her,but here she was talking calmly.

"Sophia might not be a bad person after all" she thought.

"This place is crazy and one must be careful who they get close with. You don't have to force yourself to talk to me right now, but I'll always be here for you if you need someone to talk to" Sophia said with a cute smile,before standing up to walk back to her bed.

"Thanks Sophia. I really appreciate your understanding and concern" Amaya said, returning the smile.

Sophia walked back to her bed and lay down. Amaya tried to do the same but she couldn't sleep. Her heart was heavy and she was distressed.

The memories of what happened earlier wouldn't leave her head. She had lost her pride in the most inhumane way. She sighed, plucking at the dress she was now wearing. She noticed that she had been cleaned up and the dress she was wearing,was a new one. Horrible how she had been dragged outside, without a single piece of clothing.

She kept seeing the scene in her head over and over again. Her mother's lifeless body,her father's eyes when the bullets had entered his skull and her siblings' cries.

A sudden feeling began to grow. It grew continuously until every part of her smelt and felt like it.

Revenge.

That was the feeling,that was it. And in that moment,she swore never to rest until she has her captor on his knees, begging for her mercy. With that thought,she closed her eyes to sleep.

But she had barely laid her head before being tapped roughly on the shoulder. She opened her eyes to meet those of a woman who looked like she was in her late fourties or early fifties. Her face wasn't friendly at all and Amaya immediately sat up.

"Good morning ma'am" Amaya greeted the lady respectfully.

The lady looked her up and down without responding to her greetings, and Amaya wondered if she was that terrible looking this morning.

"Follow me" she ordered and walked out.

Amaya hesitated for a second. She didn't know the woman and she sure wasn't going anywhere with her. Sophia sensed Amaya's thought,and knowing what might happen to Amaya if she got the lady upset,she quickly ran to Amaya.

"No questions Amaya, go with her right now. Things are gonna get ugly if you make her angry" Sophia said in a hushed tone that held fear.

Amaya opened her mouth to speak but Sophia shut her up.

"Just go with her Amaya. I'll tell you all you need to know later" she said while stealing glances at the door. She was obviously scared of the woman.

Whoever that lady was,she seemed to be an important person around here, to make Sophia this uncomfortable.

Amaya nodded and made her way to the door. She took a deep breath before turning the door knob. She met the lady already at a distance,and she ran after her.

"Thought you were gonna stay in there forever" the lady said without looking back.

Amaya bit the insides of her mouth to stop herself from replying back. This woman was one proud and arrogant peacock.

"Her night was terrible,as she couldn't sleep well. But couldn't her morning start normally?" she wondered in frustration.
