3 Barrett meets the Yngvidrs

I arrive a bit early at the campus, so I have spare time to buy some bread at the cafeteria. Since its lunch time it is crowded and noisier than usual. I immediately spotted the toasted melon bread and grabbed it, then went straight to the counter.

“Oh hello Miss Adelaide! “ The kitchen staff Bill greeted me, he is the same age as me and also a classmate in one of my minor subjects. He works as a kitchen staff in the morning and attends classes in the afternoon, it is one of the privileges he has as a student assistant.

“Hello there! And what’s with that greeting? Just the name is fine!”I said laughing at how formal he greeted me.

We both laughed and he scanned the melon bread I placed on the counter.

“Just bread?” he asked,  raising an eyebrow. “Is this your lunch?” He knew that I rarely eat rice meals during lunch, he doesn’t know that I’ve been too thrifty for myself because I have to provide money to my stepfamily as well as saving for tuition. 

I just remembered, I cut off my responsibility to them earlier as I hung the phone? This lifted up my spirit, “Hmm… no, it’s for my snack later. I’ll have braised chicken and salad on the menu today. “ a full course meal that I rarely have, I am quite amazed and I feel my hunger.

“Oh that's the first time, and because of that, there’s a free sweet pudding as dessert with this one, would you like to avail it?” he smiled and called my order.

“I usually eat rice meals, it’s just sometimes you are not here.” I told him it's just normal.

While waiting for my meal at the claiming area, it seemed louder than usual and I heard several students crowding at the window. They are looking at the field where the football team and other students hang out during lunch time.

“Oh, it seems like there’s another game.” It was Bill with my ordered meal.

“A game?” I asked, I rarely heard fighting on this campus.

“Oh recently the soccer guys are a bit hot headed, even though it's just a game, a student  almost went to the hospital as they played.” How intense was their game when the student got injured so badly?

“What? That’s horrible! What’s the cause?”

“I don’t know, I just heard it’s a game or contest thing? Not sure, the Yngvidrs brothers just got away because their family covered up all the expenses.”

“Yngvirds? What’s that?” It’s the first time I heard of it.

“Oh right, you are not interested in the fan clubs, they are the people who caused the injuries.”

“Eh really?” I was surprised that there are students like that who exist. I wonder what I’ve been doing for two years here without knowing what happens in my surroundings.

“If you happen to meet the Yngvidrs, you must not look at them.”

“Why?”

“Because they are blindingly handsome men!” I choke on his jokes, really I thought he was serious!

“C’mon what’s with that? Are they mesmerizing that I might get hypnotized?”

“Hahaha just kidding, I never met them near but it was what most girls talked about, you know this cafeteria has all the gossip and latest news you can hear off.”

“Oh well, I rarely went around campus so I think I won’t meet these infamous guys”

“Well, I just told you be careful”

I regret having it said, because as soon as I turned to have a seat, I bumped into a wall, rather a chest as hard as a wall brick. It was so hard that I think my nose bridge was broken with the impact. I immediately felt the hard fall and almost hit my head at the table edge. 

“The fuck!” I heard the man I bumped just cussed so hard. I looked at the floor and saw the rice meal that I am supposed to enjoy for lunch scattered like puke.

I touched my nose and looked up at the person whom I bumped, “I’m sorry I didn't see y---” I was cut off when suddenly the man grabbed my collar and with the force I screamed and gasped for my breath.

“A-Adel!” I heard Bill at the back of my head, the way he called is trembling with fear.

I hold onto the strong arms grabbing me and look at the person who’s threatening me. I was surprised to see a handsome frowning face of a man, his almond colored eyes seemed to turn red with anger. Those canines of him as he grits his teeth at the impending anger makes him look like an angry dog about to bite with his fangs.  

“This bitch look at what have you done!” he yelled at me whose feet were barely touching the floor. With almost six feet tall and those muscles from working out, I try to loosen his grip on my collar as I catch my breath.

“Maynard let go of the kid” a calm voice called him out and slowly as if his anger cooled down I begged to let go of me.

“I! … I’m sorry! I didn’t… mean it!” I manage to stay in between my gasps.

In a surprise he let go of my collar and luckily, Bill caught me as I fell and lessened the pain of the fall.

I looked at the man in front of me, I trembled to see three gorgeous creatures I have never seen in my life, so gorgeous that I might think they are those Greek gods I could only see in mythology. How can they look so foreign and strong? The man I bumped is the biggest among them literally, he towered the other two men. But it doesn’t make them less, with those tanned skin which looks so natural maybe from playing under the sun, or just their birth color, the dark loosened hair glistened with sweat looks so sexy. I noticed that the man with a calm voice has deep black eyes and the other guy who’s just looking at us has golden brown ones.

Are they even human? Even the eyes are so godly and rare!

If not for the collar grabbing man, I would think I’m blessed to have witnessed these handsome men. But the thought was gone as I realized that these men were none other  than the Yngvidr brothers whom I just talked with Bill!

“A-Adel, are you alright?” Bill asked me that brought me back to reality, “I’-I’m fine.” I cough and my eyes got teary trying to grasp my breath, this damn guy and his temper!

“Just be careful next time.” said the calm guy, I just looked at him and nodded, I better keep myself lie-low if I don’t want to be beaten and sent to the hospital.

I saw the feet of the two men walk away and I heaved a sigh that was worth my one year of luck, but rather unlucky I guess? Because when my eyes looked up, I met those deep dark eyes and those reddish glints. It was eye to eye contact with Maynard Yngvidr and it sent chills to my body. It’s as if he will crush me anytime soon. I trembled when he opened his mouth “I’ll remember your scent kid”. Then without breaking his contact, he slowly turned his back. I only stared at those strong backs as it faded away.

Was it a threat?

And what’s with the weird remark?

“Little Adel, breathe” it was when Bill slowly patted my back that I once again gasped for air. It’s suffocating  and embarrassing.

The whole cafeteria was focused on this ruckus and no one ever dared to give a hand to help me. What’s more disappointing is as if I am labeled as some trash, I know that I am at fault but the starres are piercing. I could hear them whisper and talk about me.

“Who’s the poor kid?”

“I don’t know, we have students like that here?”

“Oh how dare she do that to Yngvidrs?”

“How shameless?”

Why is it me?

Thanks to Bill I was able to get up and helped to clean up the mess. I held onto my necklace like a habit when I got excited or worried and tried to calm myself down. When I’m feelin better I get off to attend my classes.
