Rejection
My pulse was pounding with excitement as I stood in front of the pack. It had only been a few days since the ritual, yet Cassian and I had been wedded for what seemed like an eternity.
However, I saw something in Cassian's eyes that broke my heart. I had never seen such a distance, such a coldness. "Aria," Cassian whispered in a hoarse, low voice. "I could tell you were unique the instant I met you. However, as I've learnt more about you, I've come to the realisation that I was wrong. It seemed as if someone had hit me in the stomach. What was Cassian discussing? Cassian's remarks, "I don't love you, Aria," were piercing. "I didn't. Furthermore, I doubt that I ever will. My cheeks burned with embarrassment as the group gasped in surprise. How could Cassian harm me like this? In front of the whole group? My voice was stuck in my throat as I attempted to speak. I thought I would throw up. I briefly believed I saw a glimpse of sorrow in Cassian's eyes when they met mine. However, it was swiftly superseded by a ruthless resolve. Cassian responded, "I'm sorry, Aria," in a tone that was brimming with dishonesty. "But I think it's best if we just go our separate ways." With some yelling in anger and others murmuring in surprise, the group descended into anarchy. Cassian turned and left me, leaving me stuck in place. I felt as if I had been broken into a million fragments. How could Cassian harm me like this? I believed that there was an unbreakable relationship between us. However, I became aware that I had been blind as I watched Cassian go. I had never been loved by Cassian. All he had done was take advantage of me. With a surge of rage, I stepped forward and fixed my gaze on Cassian's fleeing back. But before I could speak, I was restrained by a hand that curled around my arm. "Aria, don't," a high-pitched voice said in my ear. "You'll only make things worse." Ronan, the Alpha of the opposing pack, was standing next to me as I turned around. I saw a flicker of understanding in his eyes as they were fixed on mine. "What do you want, Ronan?" In an attempt to get free of his hold, I spit. Ronan grinned slowly and menacingly. "I'd want to assist you, Aria. You deserve so much more than Cassian Blackwood, and I want to prove it to you." Despite my lack of interest, I arched an eyebrow. What was Ronan planning? However, Ronan's face froze as his eyes encountered something behind me before I could offer any enquiries. "It seems we have company," he said, his aggressive tone evident in his voice. My heart fell as I turned to see what had Ronan's attention. Cassian's father, Alpha Blackwood, stood in the darkness, staring at me with a calculating, icy stare. His snarl sent chills down my spine. "Aria, you're coming with me," he said. Fear swept through me, but Ronan's hand tightened on my arm, preventing me from moving. Ronan growled, "I don't think so, Blackwood," his eyes glimmering with difficulty. The two Alphas were now battling each other as the situation descended into mayhem. While everything around me spiralled into insanity, I remained still. However, there was something in Ronan's eyes that made me feel hopeful. A spark of devotion and protection. I was also aware that I wasn't alone. However, as the altercation intensified, I became aware that I was seriously endangered. And before it was too late, I needed to go. It was too late when I turned to flee. I was restrained when Alpha Blackwood's hand tightened around my arm. He growled, "You're not going anywhere, Aria," his eyes gleaming with victory. Everything went dark after that. I could feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins as I fought to escape Alpha Blackwood's hold. But before I could try to go again, Ronan suddenly showed there, his eyes flashing with rage. "Let her go, Blackwood," Ronan said in a low, threatening voice. Alpha Blackwood tightened his hold on my arm and hissed at Ronan. "You think you can take her from me?" he yelled. "I own her, Ronan. And I'll stop at nothing to retain her." Anger flared in Ronan's eyes as he moved towards Alpha Blackwood. He screamed, "You're not taking her anywhere," "She's under my protection now." Alpha Blackwood let out a chilly, sardonic chuckle. He hissed, "You think you can protect her from me?" "Ronan, I'll smash you. Aria will accompany me as well. Ronan's quick surge of power sent them both flying to the ground as he hurled himself at Alpha Blackwood. As the two Alphas collided in a whirl of snapping teeth and snarls, I staggered backwards, struggling for air. I realised I needed to go quickly. My heart thumping in my chest, I turned and bolted. Behind me, I could hear snarling and growling, but I dared not turn around. My boots thumping on the ground, I raced as quickly as I could. I had to leave Alpha Blackwood and his evil schemes, but I had no idea where I was heading. The trees seemed to blend as I ran. My knee was skinned on the uneven ground when I slipped and fell. But with my pulse thumping in my chest, I clambered to my feet and continued to run. After running for an unknown amount of time, I finally saw a light in the distance. With my legs hurting and my breath coming in sharp gasps, I staggered over to it. I saw a little cottage tucked away in a clearing as I came out of the woods. Warm light spilt from the windows, and smoke floated languidly from the chimney. My pulse thumping with fatigue, I staggered over to the cabin. When I got to the door, I banged on it in the hopes that someone would respond. A familiar face emerged as the door cracked open. The renegade wolf that had been observing me from the shadows was Luca. He whispered, "Aria," his eyes narrowing in worry. "What's wrong?" I staggered forward and fell into his embrace. "Alpha Blackwood," I said, breathing in sharp bursts. He's attempting to pull me along. I had to leave, but Ronan is battling him." With a flash of rage in his eyes, Luca drew me in and held me tightly. A whisper, "You're safe now," he said. "I've got you." I had a wave of security as I stood there, encircled by Luca's arms. I knew it was just temporary, however. Alpha Blackwood would do whatever it took to achieve his goals. What he wanted was me.EscapeMy boots thumping on the ground, I raced as quickly as I could. The Proposal of Ronan My head was still hammering from what had happened the night before, so I sat up. Concern was written on Ronan's face, and I could see he was unsure of how to approach me. Ronan continued, "Aria, I need to talk to you," in a sombre and hushed voice. With my pulse pounding with excitement, I nodded. "What is it, Ronan?" Ronan inhaled deeply before he spoke. "I want to assist since I know Kael has been causing you discomfort. However, I need your assistance in return. Curious, I arched an eyebrow. "What do you mean?" Ronan's piercing stare was fixed on me. "Ariana, I would want to propose to you a contract marriage. I'll give you the strength and safety you need to defeat Kael and his supporters in return for your defence and assistance." As I took in what he had said, my heart skipped a beat. A marriage under contract? With Ronan? The idea chilled me to the bone. "What do you mean by 'contract marriage'?" Trying to speak steadily, I asked. Leaning forward
Aria's Choice I sat silently, taking in what Ryker had spoken. I was beginning to feel as if I was ensnared in a web of lies and treachery as Ronan's secrets continued to accumulate. But I was resolved to live and prosper in spite of the risk. "Thank you for telling me, Ryker," I answered firmly. "But I need to make a decision about Ronan's proposal." Ryker nodded and his face became serious. I know what you mean, Aria. But use caution. There are other people observing you besides Ronan. With my pulse pounding with excitement, I nodded. Even though I was aware of the danger, I was prepared to take whatever necessary precautions to keep myself safe. I said, "I've made my decision," in a forceful tone. "I'm going to accept Ronan's proposal." Ryker stepped back as his eyes widened in amazement. "Are you certain, Aria? Ronan is not a trustworthy guy. I nodded, becoming more determined. "I'm certain, Ryker. To safeguard myself and my future, I must take this action. Ryker nodded, h
The Start of Training The sound of Ronan's voice, brimming with excitement, roused me. "Ariana, we're starting your training today. You'll learn how to fight, protect yourself, and plan." My pulse was pounding with anticipation as I sat up. I was anxious to learn since I had always found strategy and battle to be fascinating. Ronan grinned, approbation glimmering in his eyes. "I anticipated your eagerness, Aria. You're naturally skilled at fighting." I had a rush of pride and got to my feet, staring into Ronan's eyes. "Ronan, I'm prepared to learn. Give me all of your knowledge. Ronan nodded, his face solemn. "Great job, Aria. But we have to start with the fundamentals first. Combat involves more than simply fighting; it also involves strategy and tactics. I nodded, excitement rushing through my head. I was committed to being the greatest fighter I could be, and I was prepared to learn. Ronan started teaching me the fundamentals of fighting, including how to anticipate my oppon
Introduction of Kai My gaze was locked on the shadowed figure, and I stood still. She was a tall, athletic lady with emerald eyes that seemed to pierce my soul. "Who is that?" My question was hardly audible above a whisper. Ronan grinned as his gaze met mine. "That's Kai, Aria. Beta and my brooding strategist."Kai took a step forward while maintaining eye contact with me. "Hello, Aria," she replied in a sultry, deep voice. "I've heard a lot about you." My interest was piqued, and I moved onward. I answered, "And I've heard nothing about you," in a forceful tone. She grinned, and Kai's gaze furrowed. "Ariana, I'm not into social events. However, I'm always waiting and observing." The realisation that Kai was more than simply a Beta sent a chill down my spine. He was a strategist. She was the one who guided Ronan through the convoluted realm of werewolf politics and assisted him in making judgements. "Ronan," I stated firmly. "I need further information regarding Kai. What part
The Charm of Luca My gaze was improbable on the shadowed figure, and I stood still. She was a tall, athletic lady with emerald eyes that seemed to pierce my soul. "Who is that?" My question was hardly audible above a whisper.Ronan grinned as his gaze met mine. "Your twin sister is that, Aria. The person who has been absent for a long time. Shock swept through me, and I stepped forward. "My twin sister?" I said it again, firmly. The lady moved forward while maintaining eye contact with me. "Hello, Aria," she replied in a sultry, deep voice. "I've been waiting for you."The realisation that this lady was my identical sister sent a chill down my spine. However, how could it have happened? I didn't remember her; I didn't remember being apart from her.Ronan nodded, his amused eyes glistening. "Aria, yes. Your sister and you were born apart. But you're back together now." A wave of emotion swept over me, and I stepped forward. "What happened to her?" With a forceful voice, I asked.
Dynamics of Packs As I stood in the centre of the meeting site, I was surrounded by the familiar faces of Ronan's pack members. But even with their kind smiles and greets, I couldn't shake the feeling of estrangement. Ronan nodded, his face fixed on me. "Aria, I want you to meet the rest of the pack." Ronan introduced me to the other members of the pack, and I followed him. There were Kai, his sister and strategist; Ryker, his brother and Beta; and a few others whose names I could not recall. I saw that the pack members seemed to be observing me with a combination of interest and mistrust as we traversed their area. I became aware that they were still attempting to determine my place in the group. We came to a halt at the boundary of the area, where a number of pack members were huddled around a big fire. Ronan gave a nod, and they opened up to allow us pass. Ronan added, "Aria, this is our pack's elder, Elara," and he introduced me to the lady seated in the middle of the gather
The Remorse of CassianCassian stood at the edge of the forest, staring at the faraway house. The fact that he had been watching Aria from a distance made him regret it.Why had he rejected her? Why had he let his arrogance and vanity damage something so beautiful? He remembered the way she'd looked at him, the sparkle of anticipation in her eyes. He remembered that when she had smiled, her lips had made a gentle arc. He also recalled how he had harmed her.A flood of humiliation washed over Cassian as his eyes fell to the floor. He had lost sight of what was important because he had been so consumed by his ego and persuaded of his superiority. He remembered how Aria had resisted him and persisted on the day he had first seen her. He thought about how she had altered his view of the world and made him face himself. And he knew that he had been wrong to turn her away. He was wrong to think that he was better than her and that he could find someone better. As his eyes shifted back to
