Louella
•••••••••
Just like every other day, New York city was busy.
Honking cars suspended on the road, deafening music intoxicating the environment which was meant to be peaceful, the ambulance or police siren crying for the road users to make way for their passage, high schoolers walking by the road side, journalists hanging around companies to get one information or the other.
I heaved a deep sigh, looking up at the Cirrus sky of the evening. What a beautiful view of the sky. Beautiful enough to make me feel blessed.
Still staring up at the sky, a memory from ten years ago crawled into my head. It didn't just crawl into my head, it brought little tears to my eyes. And, not wanting to think about those sad times, I blinked to keep the tears, resuming being overwhelmed by the coolness around me.
I sighed. I was glad. Glad to the extreme. Who would have known that that little, wretched girl from ten years ago, would be the one standing on the balcony of the ninth floor of this ten storey building? Who would have known she would be the owner of this very big, reputable, one of the most cherished companies? To wrap it all, who would have known that tiny beggar would end up being this respected billionaire?
Unable to contain my emotion, a tear left my eye. Indeed, I was proud of myself. I was the woman I wanted to be. I was the true daughter of Lesa Warren, Louella Warren.
"Ms. Warren," a tiny voice called from behind me.
Wiping off my tears, wearing the usual stern look, I turned around to see who was behind me.
"Oh, Rachel." I smiled at my twenty-one year old secretary. A secretary who was more like a sister. "You're back? That's kind of… quick."
She returned my smile. "Yes, ma'am. Thanks to Ms. Parker."
I gasped. Erin? So that crazy-honey had gone with Rachel? This was the reason I would ever say my best friend was crazy. She had told me she was off to France, so how in the world did she go on an errand with Rachel?
I rolled my eyes, and grumbled at myself. Rachel raised an eyebrow at me, giving me that have-you-gone-crazy look. Noticing she was overly confused, I dismissed her by only flapping a hand in the air. And soon, she was out of the balcony.
Ready to scold my best friend, I pulled a playful glare, stormed into my office.
"Where are you, bitch?!" I cried as soon as I stepped in.
She stared at the magazine she had in her hands, while seated on the L-shaped black leather couch at the middle of my large office. As soon as she heard me voice, she winced, snapped her neck around to catch my gaze.
After staring at me for a while, she burst out laughing. "Damn, I fooled you," she confessed.
"So annoying." I grabbed a mug from the little bar in here, got some cappuccino from the coffee maker. "I was thinking of how I would survive without having you around, but then, I was being pranked."
"Aw…" she batted her eyelashes at me. Gross. Batting eyelashes was one thing I found very unattractive.
I sauntered to her, sat beside her. Taking another deep sigh, I nursed my coffee. "So…" I started a proper conversation. It was time to get back to business. If I had no name, business would probably be my name. "What's up? Did the meeting get postponed again?"
She smirked, those grey eyes expressing something I didn't understand. What was she doing now?
"Guess what?" She finally spoke.
I narrowed my eyes at her. "You know I hate guesses."
She chuckled. "Your company's been qualified for the meeting!"
She was probably expecting me to squeal, but all I did was to give her a small smile. And yes, that smile was a forced one. I could tell she was disappointed by my reaction, but well, by now, she ought to know the type of person I was. Icy, boring, very apathetic to everything around me. That was Louella Warren for anyone who cared to know her. Oh, know me.
"You're annoying!" She hissed, resumed concentrating on the magazine.
I shrugged. "You should know that by now. Duh."
Standing up, I dropped my mug on the glass table in front of us, cleared my throat. Swallowing hard, trying as hard as possible to ensure my fear wasn't obvious, I turned around to get ready for my long awaited meeting.
"You're sure you aren't nervous? That meeting's your biggest one ever, huh?" Erin queried.
Of course, she sounded worried. I was worried and nervous as well, but I tried to ignore that feeling. It was a normal thing to feel nervous to attend a meeting with the chairman of Green Stars Field company. That was one of the biggest companies over here, and any company who worked with them was ever going to stand out.
I ought to be glad that I had finally gotten a chance to attend a meeting with the chairman, but my personality wouldn't permit me to get excited over a mere meeting. Life had been harsh enough to teach me that nothing was worth being excited for. Being excited wouldn't change the outcome of the meeting. So, what was the point in wasting my emotion?
I nodded at Erin, walked to my table. Grabbing my purse, I headed straight to the door. About to step out, she called out my name. And grumbling a little, I turned around to spot her.
"What?" I demanded, so indifferent to whatever she would say or do.
She squinted her eyes at me, pulled her tiny lips into a pout. "Hun, drop every freaking ego you've got, okay?"
I shot her a glare. "Tell that to your boyfriend. This babe isn't dropping any ego."
She shook her head. Noticing she was about to elongate this unnecessary discussion, I said a quick “goodbye” to her, stepped out immediately.
Only taking a step into the hallway, heading to the elevator, Neo and Leo, my personal bouncers, walked behind me. As well, about fifteen of my dudes followed. Rachel and two other guys stood by the elevator I was going to step into. And reaching the elevator door, I snapped my fingers to signal they should open up the door.
Rachel walked in with me, and we headed to the last floor of this building. In a jiffy, we were at our destination. As soon as all available workers on the floor spotted me coming, they stood up, bowed their heads to show some respect. They made way for me to pass, and soon, I made my way out of the building.
As usual, journalists surrounded me, begging for my attention. But clearly, why would I pay attention to them when I had a big offer waiting out there for me?
They were always a great inconvenience to my life, but well, was there anything better than being a billionaire? Of course not. Whenever the journalists felt the need to attack me with questions, my bouncers were always there to guard me out of their proximity.
Soon, we reached my car. I hopped into the backseat, fastened my seat belt. Another good thing about being a billionaire was you never had to talk. Gesturing with the eyes, snapping the fingers, clearing the throat, would do the trick. And right now, a snap of my fingers got my driver to start the car.
We were on the road in a short while. All I did was to lean my head against the headrest, take in a deep sigh. It was time to face the greatest victory of my life. Yes, I would admit, a whole Louella was nervous to attend that meeting.
God help me.

I tried to keep myself calm. Since I had begun working, I had attended hundreds of meetings with the top CEOs and chairman of great companies, but this one felt so different.First, I didn't have an idea of how the chairman looked like. Second, many people always spoke about his personality. They all said he was a cold, bratty dude, so straight forward. I wasn't so bratty, but I was sassy. Though I was confident, my dauntlessness had limits. And, what if this was a limit? What if I wouldn't be able to handle him? There was definitely no one I was scared of. But, when it came to my work, I liked to be careful. I didn't want to make the same mistakes I had made in the past. Yet, irrespective of how bad I needed to work with this company, I wouldn't let anything bring me down. If the chairman had an unscrewed nut in his head, I would deal with that in the right manner. The crazy manner.Opening the door of my ca
He stared even harder. He raised his hand, lingered it in the air, those eyes narrowing too crazily at me. The moment he decided to take a step close, walk towards the table, someone tapped him from behind. He snapped his neck around, began speaking with whoever that was.Good. This was the chance to escape. I could easily walk out of the meeting, and maybe ignore him, but that would cost my reputation. And, anything that costed my reputation, costed my life.I skimmed my eyes through the room. To my surprise, everyone was on their phone. It really seemed like God wanted me to escape here. Great! But wait, how in the world would I do that?I jerked Rachel's skirt. She almost gasped, but probably tried to swallow the breath that would have escaped her throat. "Come on now. Don't just stand there doing nothing. Don't make me fire you.""But, ma'am—""Do. Something
I went through the files on my table, trying to be as steady as possible. I was devastated. For the first time in a long time, working my ass off wasn't able to help me get rid of my bad mood. And, this was all that man's fault.Being a business woman, a couple of my business' offers had been rejected a lot of times. But, this one felt different. When Erin had decided to help me get qualified for the meeting, I hadn't been optimistic. But, when she had told me I was qualified for it, I had had so many expectations, only for the dude to threaten to send me out of his company. The door of my office made a slight sound, which caused me to flinch. Raising my head, I saw it was Erin. Of course, it was her. She didn't smile, which meant it was time to get scolded. As she walked towards my table, I moved my eyes to the laptop in front of me.She settled to sit on the leather chair by the other side of the tabl
She sniggered. "Whatevs. We both are bitches. Duh…"I scoffed. "Did you follow me all the way here? What else do you need to know?""Um…" She sucked her teeth, narrowed her eyes at me. "Sort of. Well, I didn't follow you here, but fate did. She knew you'd be here tonight, so she pulled me here. She just wants you to know my victory."I swallowed. I already knew where she was taking this discussion to. "You got the offer? You're now working with Green Stars?""You got it!" She snapped her fingers at me, gave me that menacing and cunning smile. "And, what makes me happy is that the company needed to do a small partnership with only one company. And, yes honey, that one company is my company."I took a long shot of my drink, drinking it as if it was an alcohol. If I was one of those weird people who took alcohol, I would probably be drunk by now, owing to how frustrate
For the past three days, I had been working my ass off. In particular, I was working because I really needed to brush off every crazy thought in my head. Seeing dad had left me so devastated. And, to worsen this, I had no one around me. Erin was the only one who comforted me, but she was away, probably still angry at me.I sipped from my mug of coffee, sighed. Also, I had been working so hard because I really needed my company to be the highest ranked company for the year. If that got to happen, I would earn more profit, as well, my company would stand out even more.Taking the handout Rachel had prepared for the presentation of my next meeting, I began to go through it. About to swipe to the next page, someone knocked on my door. Had Rachel returned? So quickly?"Come in," I said, my eyes still glued to the paper in my hands. "That was quick. Were you able to get enough?" I asked as soon as she walked in.&nb
We were both silent.Wait, a few minutes ago, I had been putting my robe on. So, what if he had come out of the bathroom at that time? What if he had seen me naked? In the first place, what was he doing in my room?!Scanning him, I gulped. He was looking so, so hot. A white towel was wrapped around his waist, another around his neck. His dark, brown hair was wet, slipping past his eyebrows. There were his arms, not overly built like one of those bouncers or boxers' arms, yet built enough for any girl to like. Any girl who wasn't me."Y-You?" He cut the silence creeping around us. Okay. This was it. I wasn't ever going to think about people's stutter. That had to endWoah! This man was in my room, looking hot!Contemplating, also trying to be the crazy person I always was, I tried to frown again, then took a step close to him. "Hey, what're you doing in here?" I demand
"Oh, sorry for interrupting you!" Someone cried from the crowd standing by the door.Seth and I flinched for a second time, and moved away from each other. Practically, we had both acted like criminals who had been caught committing a crime. I really didn't want to believe what was happening. I would never have expected the journalists to come into the room I had paid for, for the night. All I wanted was for the bed to swallow me at this moment.Erin walked to me with widened eyes. She glanced at Seth, turned to me, glanced back at Seth, turned back to me. She was totally dazed. Obviously."Louella? What's going on?" She whispered. I would rather say she was being dramatic. Why had she moved her eyes that way? And why in the world was she whispering as if I had been doing something with him?I sighed, quite worried. "How did the media get here? Nothing was
I was above being frustrated. Since morning, I hadn't even been able to work properly. I couldn't stop thinking about what had happened last night. I hardly let things affect me, but this time around, this was affecting me so bad! How could he have gone as far as lying to the media?"This is the reason I tell you to stop being so stubborn," Erin continued to scold me.I rolled my eyes. "Can you stop blaming me now? I didn't know the emergency button was connected to the other parts of the hotel. But wait, how did the reporters get in there?""Um…" she sucked her teeth, drummed my fingers against the table. "Well, there was this guy who came to announce that Seth and you were in a room."I glared. "What?! How did the guy know that?""Calm down, okay? I heard Seth's gotten him arrested," she informed me. Leaning her back against her seat, she sighed. "The guy's a
The entire hall was silent. There was no doubt that everyone present in the great crowd in front of me, was in awe, feeling the intensity of the words I was speaking. I smiled a little, pacing around the stage. I stood behind the podium, and cleared my throat. "Now, this goes to the younger women in here." My hands settled on the podium, my shoulders raised proudly. "You see, people still tend to underestimate the power you have. But, I have good news for you. You're capable. What a man can do, you can also do. It's only about the mindset. Anyone can become successful. Don’t let anyone intimidate you." "Yeah," someone from the crowd agreed. I just smiled. They concentrated so much, as if their lives depended on my words. I continued, "Many ladies have lost
Seth laughed at me as I groaned and acted like a child. That was pretty annoying, but well, how could an adult be so scared to take an injection? I hated that thing so, so much. The doctor finally got rid of the syringe, and took care of the injected part of my skin. As soon as he was done with that, he arranged his box, and stood up. I kept squeezing my face like a crying child. He cleared his throat, and started, "Mrs. Lee, you're good to go for your trip. After all the tests we've done, I can confidently tell you that your body system is back to normal. The effects of the poison are completely diminished."I finally smiled. "That's good news. Thanks."Seth held my hand as he sat beside me. "Thanks, do
I sobbed. The pain I was feeling obviously wasn't as crazy as hers, but it felt like mine was worse. She gaped, groans leaving her mouth. Her lips quivered, quite obvious that she wanted to say something. Blood kept gushing out from the left side of her chest, as well as her mouth. Tears left her eyes, the gun dropping from her hand. Her body shook, seeming as if she'd lose her stability soon.I was shocked. Being shocked was an understatement. She was battling to live; battling to save herself.Alarmed, I cried, "Celina!" The moment I attempted to grip her arm, her body impelled backwards. Her legs tripped over each other, and like a weak mango tree, she fell off the cliff.Seeing that, my heart s
The beam of the rising sun shone against my eyes, making me blink slowly. I yawned, the sore pain in my head becoming quite worse. Trying to sit up, I noticed how uncomfortable I was, my hands and legs feeling stuck to something. It took a while for me to open my eyes, and to even notice all that was going on around me. The moment I realized where I was and what was happening, I gasped. I tried sitting straight on this old, dusty floor, and also tried moving away from the ray of the sun which was attacking my eyes. I looked down at my legs which were tied, struggling to help myself out of this bandage. This was already a new day, yet I was still not seen by the police. Were Becca and Celina stronger than them or what? But, I could not remain here, right? If they weren't going to come and get me, it seemed like I would have
I knew I was supposed to run over to him, and cuddled him crazily. Instead, all I was doing was to stare at him. I was really happy. To be honest, in the past few days, I had missed him a lot. There was really no point in denying that."Seth." Gently, I walked over to him, giving him a small smile. He was also smiling, but wasn't saying anything. He cupped my jaw when I reached him. "Sweetie, where have you been?" And pecked my cheek."Gosh, I've missed you." A tear left my eye. What was making me emotional? In such a terrifying situation? He leaned close, hugged me, pecked my forehead. "Oh yes, I've missed you too.""This is really hard for us." I returned his hug, weeping on his chest. "Becca and Celina are doing all this. They really want to have me killed. They're taking it too far.""I know it all. And, most of all, I'm glad you have no
Louella••••••••••I packed the last set of files into my backpack, ready to head out. Spotting a red file on my table, I narrowed my eyes at it, and grabbed it. The moment I skimmed through it, I couldn't help but gape. How in the world had I almost forgotten such an important file? This was the most needed file of all the files I had taken from here.I kept the file in my backpack, slung the backpack over my shoulder. I took a glance at my wrist watch, feeling a bit disturbed and puzzled. I had to leave here soon, before anyone would see me. If Seth had to come now, there was no doubt that he wouldn't want me to leave.First, I had to ensure that I was set to leave here. Once I got back to the beach house, since my phone was already turned on, I would book a flight online, and leave the country for a few months. In the meantime, I would ensure that I
Celina••••••••Becca's complaint was getting too annoying. Why was it so hard for her to understand that we only needed to be as patient as possible? It wasn't as if I wasn't trying my best. Here she was, complaining about her father's betrayal, while I was here, thinking of how to get Seth attracted to me.Days had passed, yet Seth wasn't willing to be close to me. I had gone to his office, and had apologized to me. Yes, he had said he forgave me, but how was I supposed to believe that if he hadn't even called or texted me? It just seemed like my effort to get him was nothing but a waste."Where the heck is Rita?!" Becca barked, smashed her phone against the floor, breathing hard like an insane dog.I rolled my eyes. "Girl, chill. She'll be back soon. I only asked her to grab some files from Louella's office. If we find Louella before
Seth••••••I wasn't feeling so well. Before Louella had come into my life, all I had been doing was to work. But, now that she had gone, it was really hard to work without her. This was so upsetting.Indeed, you only missed your lover when you let her go. To worsen all this, no one knew where she was. I had called her, had texted her, hard searched for her, but it was all to no avail. Maybe I had to file a missing report at the police station. This was too frustrating for me.Dayla walked into my office, a couple of files tugged to her chest. When she dropped the files on my table, she stood in front of the table like a mango tree, looking down.I wiggled a brow at her. "Hey, you need something? Why stand there?""Oh, sorry. I was a bit lost." She laughed weirdly. "Um, someone's here to see you. She says her name is Rita."
Louella••••••••••Staring up at the hazy sky of the evening, seated on the small stool on the porch of this old beach house, I sighed hard. I felt a heavy pain in my chest, feeling the need to cough hard. I knew I was supposed to begin my treatments, but how would I do that when I wasn't willing to go back home?It had been days since I saw anyone. After I had left Seth, I had decided to come to this beach house. This was a place Dad, mom and I used to have a vacation, just before Jan and Becca had come into our lives. Though the place gave me bad memories, I really still liked coming here. It was always filled with serenity.I stared down at my shaky fingers, felt really bad for myself. I didn't know the decision to make. Was I really going to let myself die?In a few days, I would run out of food. I had had some money in my
