Chapter 199

All through the board meeting, Richard was away and drowning in his thoughts that never left him alone. He thought of Barbara and the drugs he found in her closet, and then what the doctor had said about it.

And then, he thought of Brian and Emily. He wondered if Emily loved Brian the way that she loved him.

Still, he couldn’t withhold the resentment he felt for Brian. He felt that Brian’s presence in Emily’s life made her grow distant from him.

“Richard, you were asked a question!” Brian’s voice interrupted his thoughts and jerking up, he met the questioning glare of everyone present.

“Are you okay? You appear to be a sort of zoned out and uncomfortable”, Brian observed and looked at Richard with a sincere gaze.

Richard shot a dead glare across at him and rather than saying any other word, he kept mute.

“I’m fine. What was the question?”

“How many more investors would be joining us before the year runs out?” One of the men asked Richard, who glared at him intently.

“I don’t know”.
