Esmeralda's POV
As I stepped into the dimly lit threshold of Elite Lounge, the bouncer,a towering figure with a sturdy build and strong physique, gazed down at me with a neutral expression.
"Name?" He asked, his deep voice firm but polite.
"Esmeralda Reyes" I replied with a smile plastered on my lips.
His piercing black eyes scanned my face before shifting to the sleek, black clipboard in his hands. His thick fingers scrolled through the list, his expression unreadable. His gaze returned to my face, his eyes narrowing slightly as if to confirm my identity. A moment passed before he nodded.
"Welcome to Elite Lounge,Mrs. Reyes. You're on the list" His deep voice rumbled with a slight smile on his lips as he moved aside from the door. I sauntered in, grimacing at the loud blaring music and the sight of people twirling and dancing on the floor.
Born into the world as an heiress of the Lawson family's fortune,I grew up accustomed to the extravagant lifestyle of the rich, but everything changed when I got married to Antonio two years ago. Love humbled me and I was happy that way.
"Hey, girl! What took you so long?" I heard a familiar voice shout from behind me,and turned to receive the sudden hug.
"I'm sorry,Elena. I had to convince Antonio to let me come here. You know how much he hates the nightlife" I yelled back, infuriated by the noisy atmosphere.
"Yeah. Blah blah blah. I think it's high time you and your hubby allow the singles breathe" Elena exclaimed, rolling her eyes. "When is he going to settle with the fact that I'm your best friend?"
"Well I'm here now so chill out" I scoffed and dragged her towards the bar counter.
"A virgin cocktail for me, please" I said to the bartender. Elena had already ordered a drink so I didn't bother about her.
"Wow! You're really good at getting people's attention" Elena said, frowning.
I didn't quite catch up on her words and shifted my gaze to her.
"What do you mean?" I asked and followed her gaze to see the stares directed at us,or should I say me. My ethereal beauty had always attracted people to me,but I had given them less attention. I thought I didn't need anymore companions apart from Antonio and Elena.
"Ignore them" I said and turned to sip my drink, letting the music sink into my hearing.
"I need another drink" Elena declared. She ordered for another glass and as she reached out to it,her elbow knocked against my glass, spilling the content on me and drenching my dress.
"Oh,crap!" I exclaimed, trying to wipe the stain off,but it was futile.
"I'm really sorry. Let me help you out" Elena said, her voice laced with concern.
"It's alright. I'll go take care of it in the restroom" I muttered, standing up from my seat.
"Let me come with you" Elena insisted, standing up groggily.
I pushed her back on her seat and patted her shoulders, saying,"don't bother. You're almost wasted. Just wait here for me and don't move" I warned with a stern gaze.
I was familiar with the Elite Lounge, which made it easy for me to find the restroom. I sighed in relief, seeing the almost deserted place. I pushed the door with the female sign on it,and walked in. The lower part of the dress was made of silk which made it easy to wash the stain off.
I hurried out of the restroom and headed back to my spot to see Elena with her head crashed on the counter, her shoulders slumped to show how drunk she was.
"Elena" I nudged her slightly, noticing the new glass of cocktail on the counter.
"Ma'am,your friend here ordered it for you" The bartender said with a smile.
"Oh!" I pouted.
Feeling thirsty, I grabbed the cup and emptied the content in one gulp. I decided it was time to leave and placed a wad of Pesos on the counter. My next thought was to drag Elena to the car,but the moment I stood up,my vision began to blur. The sounds around me- the laughter, music, and clinking glasses, warped into a distant hum.
A blurry figure approached me and grabbed my arms, dragging me forward. At that time,I couldn't quite pinpoint what was occuring. The only thing I was sure of was my unusual obedience to a stranger. The numbness in my limbs made it impossible to resist and the next thing I saw was darkness pulling me into its deep abyss.

As I regained consciousness,my eyes fluttered around the familiar room. I was quick to recognize it as my matrimonial home. The interior designs and classic furniture all remained the same. I scrambled up on the bed to sit up,but the throbbing pain in my head stops me from sitting properly. The last thing I recalled was drinking that cocktail at the bar,any other attempt to recall something after that, ended up appearing blank.
"Arrrghh" I growled in frustration, massaging my forehead to reduce the throbbing pain. Since I was home,I assumed Antonio had come to pick Elena and I up. But where was Elena?
I ignored the unsettling feeling in my heart, convincing myself she was already at home. A sense of relief washed over me as I jumped off the bed and wore my fluffy slippers. I strutted slowly out of the room, still battling with dizziness.
"Antonio.. Hubby" I called out, hoping someone would respond to my call, but I got nothing. I proceeded to the kitchen and saw one of the maids cleaning up.
"Where's my husband?" I asked, startling her.
"Huh.. Madame,Boss is in his study room" She replied with fear in her eyes.
I wondered for a moment, what could be happening at that time to make the maid scared, but I was quick to brush it aside. I arrived at doorstep of the study room, and heard soft moans seeping through.
"What?!" I exclaimed in surprise and quickly pushed the door opened without knocking.
"Antonio" I walked and glanced around until my gaze landed on Antonio. Surprisingly, Elena,my best friend, was there but I was missing something,or maybe my brain was trying to repel the thoughts. Whether it was dream or a reality,I didn't know, but one thing was glaring- Antonio,my husband was making out with the woman I called my best friend.
Esmeralda's POV"What.. what's going on here?" I asked,my voice cracking as I stared from Antonio who was already shirtless to Elena who was already half naked.Antonio's eyes widened in shock as he pushed Elena away. "Esme, what are you doing here?" He berated."It's my house. Why can't I be here?" I asked, stupified by his question. He frowned and shifted his gaze to Elena, saying,"I thought you said the drug wasn't going to wear off until evening?""Huh... What drugs? What the hell is going on your Antonio? What are you doing with Elena?" I questioned, yelling. I was going all out to control the tears brimming up in my eyes.'No! Not yet' I screamed inwardly, trying to convince myself that maybe, just maybe they had an explanation for their actions. I saw a mocking smirk appear on Elena's face. She fiddled with my husband's hair and stood up from his thighs."Don't worry, Antonio. I'll handle her" She smiled eeriely and sashayed to me with confidence."What do you think it is,Esme?"
Antonio's POV"No,I didn't sign those paper willingly. You forced me" Esmeralda shouted at the top of her lungs, tears streaming down her face. For I moment,I felt a ounce of pity for her,but I was quick to cast it aside. It took Elena and I two years to gain her trust, and another two years to identify all of the Lawsons' fortune. She was quite secretive, even after claiming to love me. It was tough, but I managed to get what I wanted. With this thought,a smile of triumph curved on my lips. "Esmeralda, nothing in this mansion belongs to you,not even the company. You have to leave.""To where?" She asked, shivering in fear."To the streets, Esmeralda" Elena chipped in with disgust in her voice. "You need to learn how to live like us. Learn the ways of the poor and face retribution for your sins.""You both are making a mistake" Esmeralda argued. "I never treated you badly. I gave you everything you asked me for. I did everything you asked me to do without complaining.""That's it,Esme. Yo
Esmeralda's POV"Let me go!" I screamed in the dark night, banging the bodyguard's back with my fist, but it was pointless. The indifferent man carried me out of the mansion, straight outside the iron clad gate."Here you go" He threw me to the ground, causing me to land on my butt. "I'm sorry, madame, but I have to obey the boss's order." He apologized with a slight bow.I glared hard at him and snarled. "I'm your boss. You should listen to me.""I'm sorry, but that isn't the case right now. Please, pardon me" He said, his tone laced with sincerity as he turned to walk back into the mansion.I desperately wanted to call out to me for help, but the words were stuck in my throat. I could only watch as his silhouette disappeared. My eyes were too exhausted to release even a drop of tears. I felt an excruciating pain on my feet as I tried to get up on my feet. There was nothing I could do to get what I had lost back. I didn't even have the strength to fight again. I raised my gaze to the sky
Esmeralda's POV"What the hell just happened?" One of the men yelled out in rage and ran to the already dead man. The hole in his forehead was definitely drilled by a bullet, but no sound of gunshot was heard. The remaining three men had a mix of terror and confusion etched on their faces as they examined the body."How did this happen? Who did this?" One of them berated no one in particular, his eyes darting around to locate the culprit, but there was no one in the street, except for us.They began to eye each other suspiciously, thinking the culprit was amongst them. One of them brought out a gun from nowhere and pointed it at the rest. "Which one of you is responsible?" He queried."What are you doing,Pedro? Have you gone insane? We all saw what happened" One of them yelled in rage."The bullet came from the front and we were behind him" the second man chipped in,his voice shaking. "If you want to suspect anyone,it should be that woman. Who knows? Maybe she's one of the spies from her
Antonio's POVI and Elena sat on the chair as we kept staring in anticipation at my phone that laid on the table. Finally the shrill ringtone of the phone filled the room. I rushed to it swiping the answer button." Any report?" I asked frantically" She's dead." The reply made a smile curl at the corner of my lips. I hanged up with relief in my mind." What did he say?" Elena asked as she took a sip out of her wine glass." She's out of our lives forever, she's dead." I said making Elena's smile grow even wider, Esmeralda was dead. The next day was a good day for us as we twirled and danced, our laughter echoed through the walls of the room. We got dressed and ready to go to Lawson industries. I was dressed in a black suit and white shirt while Elena was dressed in black bodycon gown that showed off her curves." Are you ready to take charge baby?" Elena asked as she adjusted my tie right." I was born ready." We walked out of the house hand in hand feeling like the most powerful cou
Esmeralda's POVI jolted awake, my heart racing and pounding against my chest. I stared at the ceiling as I tried to figure out where I was. The last scene I recall was me being hit to one side of the road and blood trickling down my forehead. I pulled up myself trying to sit up when I felt a sharp pain on my head making me hiss in pain. I looked around the room I was in. This was definitely not my room in the Lawson mansion but everything in the room screamed luxury. " You are awake!" A girl who I did not notice was in the room exclaimed as she ran out the door. Few minutes later, the girl came in with a man who is probably in his sixties. The man had a smile on his face." How are you feeling?" He asked sending her a sympathetic look." I'm fine I guess but my head hurts a lot." I said hissing in pain as I tried to sit up again. This time the girl rushed to my side to help me." Talia go call the doctor." The man said to the girl before coming to my side. " You'll be fine child" he
Isabel Cruz POVThe furious typing sound of the keyboard and the humming of the air conditioner were the only sound you could hear in the room. I was preparing the contract to be signed by my new investors. I couldn't believe how a company that I started just two years ago was already gaining popularity and trust from the masses. This was a feat that took my father years to achieve, but I did it in two years. I wish my parents could have been here to see this. Cruz group was currently ranking number ten in the top company list." Isabel!" Someone shouted my name getting me startled. My attention immediately diverted to the source of the shout." Gosh Talia you got me startled." I said breathing in relief. " I had been calling you for a while now." " I'm sorry I didn't hear you, I'm just trying to finish up this contracts before next week, how's everything with the company?" I had refused to show my face to the public, no one knows the face behind the owner of Cruz group not even my
Miguel's POV" If you check in page two of the contract papers before you, everything you asked to facilitate this business transaction are all in there." I said with a calm tone as I looked at the three gentlemen that were sitting in front of me.One of the men whispered into the ear of the man sitting in their middle. Immediately the middle man picked up the pen and signed the paper." Congratulations Mr Martinez, I anticipate doing business with you." He said stretching his hand out for a handshake. I quickly locked my hands with his." You would not regret it for one day." I said confidence in my tone. Now, that is how to seal a contract legally. Being a CEO for the past two months has proven to be very stressful. I had made so many tough decisions, taken so many risk, made a few losses and bagged a lot of contract. People expected me to be like the former CEO, my father. They expected me to have to bribe people and companies into entering a contract with me. But where is the val
"Feeding off what?" Caleb asked, his rifle sweeping the area. Before Finn could answer, a low growl echoed through the village. The team froze, their weapons trained on the source of the sound. From the shadows emerged creatures unlike any they had faced before. Their forms were barely humanoid, their bodies composed of writhing tendrils and jagged shards of obsidian. Their glowing eyes burned with malice."Contact!" Ruby shouted, firing the first shot. The creatures attacked with terrifying speed, their movements unnatural and erratic. Caleb fired at the nearest one, his bullets shattering its obsidian exterior but failing to slow it down. Selene charged forward, her blade glowing as it sliced through a tendril that lashed out at her."Aim for the cores!" Finn yelled, his device beeping wildly. "The glowing spots in their chests!"Ruby adjusted her aim, firing at a creature's core. The shot landed true, and the creature let out a guttural scream before collapsing into a pile of ash a

The sound alone sent a chill running through my spine, but I couldn't look away from the window. There was a shadow outside that seemed to shift, stretching and bending unnaturally than they should have.I stood in fear, not being able to feel my legs which felt heavy. All I could hear was the sound of my heartbeat which kept on thundering in my chest. A loud bang at the door made me jump from my bed. "Another kilometer," Finn replied, adjusting the scanner. "But the energy is… erratic. It's like the cluster is unstable, but it's pulling resources from somewhere."Ruby nodded, her grip tightening on her rifle. "Stay alert. The Shadow never makes things easy." The whole team were on high alert as they lifted their weapons higher ready to attack at the slightest movement The cluster appeared suddenly, nestled within a narrow gorge. Tendrils of dark energy snaked along the ground, pulsating faintly. At its center was a twisted structure, a crude spire of shadow and stone that seemed to breathe with unnatural life."Looks like a smaller version of the core," Finn murmured. "But it's… fractured. If we can destabilize it, the whole thing should collapse."Ruby surveyed the area. "Let's make it happen. You handle the spire. I'll cover you."As Finn approached the structure, the ground trembled. Creatures emerged from the shadows, their forms misshapen but vicious. Ruby fired a quick burs
Finn's scanner beeped intermittently, struggling to maintain accuracy. "The interference is worse than I expected," he admitted, frowning at the flickering display. "We're flying blind out here."Selene's eyes scanned the horizon. "Then we rely on instincts. This isn't the first time we've worked without a map."Zoe smirked faintly. "She's right. Besides, if anything jumps out, I'll just cut it down."Ruby kept her rifle at the ready, her voice cutting through the tension. "Stay sharp. Whatever's waiting for us, it knows we're coming."The signal led them to an ancient ruin, partially buried beneath layers of shadow-infused earth. The structure was unlike anything they'd encountered before—crumbling stone walls laced with veins of pulsing dark energy. Tendrils of shadow coiled and twisted through the air, moving as if alive.Finn's eyes widened as he studied the ruin. "This place… it's amplifying the signal. The core's energy is dormant but concentrated here. If we can disable it, we'
Ruby led the way, her voice cutting through the chaos. "Stay together! Keep moving!"A massive tendril slammed into the path ahead, cutting them off. Selene darted forward, her blade slicing through the tendril in a single, decisive strike. "Go! I've got this!"The team pushed forward, the exit coming into view just as the chamber let out a deafening roar. They burst into the open air, the ground beneath them trembling as the chamber collapsed entirely.Finn stumbled to his knees, his scanner clutched tightly in his hands. He stared at the screen, his face pale. "The energy… it's… it's heading somewhere else."Ruby turned to him, her expression grim. "Where?"Finn looked up, his voice shaking. "I don't know. But whatever it is, it's not good."The team's breaths came in heavy gasps as they stared out over the Wastes. The Shadow's remnants weren't just lingering. They were regrouping, gathering strength for something far worse.Ruby's grip tightened on her rifle. "We'll stop it. Whatev

The mechanical voice over the intercom had been haunting in its finality: "Containment protocol initiated. Somewhere in these files was a way out, a weakness in the system I'd unwittingly helped build."Miguel!" I called, spotting him barricading the main corridor. His eyes snapped to me."What did you find?" he demanded, not pausing in his task of positioning wreckages for cover."More data on the project—but it's a mess. They've buried the important files under layers of encryption.""Then unbury them," he snapped. "We're running out of time!"I didn't argue. My hands shook as I knelt beside him, setting up my laptop on a nearby crate. The battle outside raged, but my focus was on the scre

Miguel's POVThe headlights caught her face fully now, and there was no mistaking it.Our mother. Her face was pale, lined with the kind of exhaustion that only comes from years of pain, yet her eyes held that same piercing intensity I remembered as a child.Fifteen years. Fifteen years without a word. Without an explanation.I pushed open the car door. Cold air hit me, but my chest burned hotter than ever."Stay in the car," Dad ordered, his voice taut with authority."Like hell I will." I stepped out, heart pounding. "Fifteen years. And you think showing up now—like this—is enough?"She took a step forward."Miguel, please. There's so much you don't—"I cut her off, my voice trembling. "Then explain it. No more riddles. No more secrets. Why now?"Behind me, Isabel's voice cut through the tension."Miguel! Diego's pulse is dropping again! We don't have time for this!"Our mother's face twisted with urgency."Let me help him. Please."I stepped back, blocking her approach."No. You do
The air in the resistance base buzzed with an energy that was equal parts anticipation and dread. Though Ruby and her team had delivered a crippling blow to the Shadow, the cracks in the landscape, the faint echoes of corruption still lingering in the Wastes, spoke to a danger far from eradicated. The Shadow's remnants were more than just scars; they were seeds, threatening to sprout into new horrors if left unchecked.Ruby stood in the command center, leaning over a table strewn with maps and tactical reports. The dim light overhead cast sharp shadows across her face. Evelyn's voice was sharp as ever as she discussed deployments with the council."We've dispatched scouts to all regions marked by Finn's residual energy readings," Evelyn said, her fingers tracing the map. "But reports from the south are troubling. A village near the Wastes border… it's gone dark. No communication. No survivors seen leaving."Finn adjusted his device, the holographic map flickering to life above the tab
