Antonio's POV

I and Elena sat on the chair as we kept staring in anticipation at my phone that laid on the table. Finally the shrill ringtone of the phone filled the room. I rushed to it swiping the answer button.

" Any report?" I asked frantically

" She's dead." The reply made a smile curl at the corner of my lips. I hanged up with relief in my mind.

" What did he say?" Elena asked as she took a sip out of her wine glass.

" She's out of our lives forever, she's dead." I said making Elena's smile grow even wider, Esmeralda was dead.

The next day was a good day for us as we twirled and danced, our laughter echoed through the walls of the room. We got dressed and ready to go to Lawson industries. I was dressed in a black suit and white shirt while Elena was dressed in black bodycon gown that showed off her curves.

" Are you ready to take charge baby?" Elena asked as she adjusted my tie right.

" I was born ready." We walked out of the house hand in hand feeling like the most powerful cou

Esmeralda's POVI jolted awake, my heart racing and pounding against my chest. I stared at the ceiling as I tried to figure out where I was. The last scene I recall was me being hit to one side of the road and blood trickling down my forehead. I pulled up myself trying to sit up when I felt a sharp pain on my head making me hiss in pain. I looked around the room I was in. This was definitely not my room in the Lawson mansion but everything in the room screamed luxury. " You are awake!" A girl who I did not notice was in the room exclaimed as she ran out the door. Few minutes later, the girl came in with a man who is probably in his sixties. The man had a smile on his face." How are you feeling?" He asked sending her a sympathetic look." I'm fine I guess but my head hurts a lot." I said hissing in pain as I tried to sit up again. This time the girl rushed to my side to help me." Talia go call the doctor." The man said to the girl before coming to my side. " You'll be fine child" he

Isabel Cruz POVThe furious typing sound of the keyboard and the humming of the air conditioner were the only sound you could hear in the room. I was preparing the contract to be signed by my new investors. I couldn't believe how a company that I started just two years ago was already gaining popularity and trust from the masses. This was a feat that took my father years to achieve, but I did it in two years. I wish my parents could have been here to see this. Cruz group was currently ranking number ten in the top company list." Isabel!" Someone shouted my name getting me startled. My attention immediately diverted to the source of the shout." Gosh Talia you got me startled." I said breathing in relief. " I had been calling you for a while now." " I'm sorry I didn't hear you, I'm just trying to finish up this contracts before next week, how's everything with the company?" I had refused to show my face to the public, no one knows the face behind the owner of Cruz group not even my

Miguel's POV" If you check in page two of the contract papers before you, everything you asked to facilitate this business transaction are all in there." I said with a calm tone as I looked at the three gentlemen that were sitting in front of me.One of the men whispered into the ear of the man sitting in their middle. Immediately the middle man picked up the pen and signed the paper." Congratulations Mr Martinez, I anticipate doing business with you." He said stretching his hand out for a handshake. I quickly locked my hands with his." You would not regret it for one day." I said confidence in my tone. Now, that is how to seal a contract legally. Being a CEO for the past two months has proven to be very stressful. I had made so many tough decisions, taken so many risk, made a few losses and bagged a lot of contract. People expected me to be like the former CEO, my father. They expected me to have to bribe people and companies into entering a contract with me. But where is the val

Elena's POVFlashback I sat in a corner of the cafeteria as I watched everyone. Every other person were eating lunch like kings except me who had just two fingers of banana and a bottle of water. That's what people who enter Ivy league schools by scholarship are made to go through. I felt so out of place in this school but I had to take the opportunity when they offered me scholarship. My eyes scanned around the rich children as I ate my banana and my eyes met with hers. It was the Lawson heiress, I always wanted to be like her. She looked away after a few minutes. I had to make her my friend that way I stop being an outcast. After school I took a bold step to meet with her. I stood in front of my locker watching her. As she was about to go out through the exit, I walked backwards, and bumped into her making her books fall" I'm so sorry." I said as I helped her pick the books up." It's fine" she said with a small smile as she took the books from my hand." My name is Elena"" I'm

Isabel POVI poured more wine into my cup left resting back to focus on the television. I had streamed the whole product launch event of Martinez corporation since I was unable to go. I was glad I could help him with his product. My eyes caught a glimpse of someone, Antonio. He was greeting Miguel Martinez with Elena by his side. My phone vibrated and I checked the caller.Miguel Martinez. As expected. I connected the automated voice before swiping the answer button." Good evening, Miss Cruz." My eyes widened in realization. How did he even get to know my gender? I decided to play dumb knowing that he could be playing mind games." Good evening Mr Martinez, lovely event you had."" Well, you couldn't show up to even give your speech yourself, how can you be so sure." " I apologise for my absence but it was inevitable." " I understand, you clean up so good though. No one has ever seen you not even at your merchandise drop off locations."" Someone had been doing a background check

Isabel POV I stood in front of the restaurant staring at the familiar door. It looks like I've obviously been here before, I gasp as my assistant the memory flowed right back." No." I voiced out. " What do you mean no?" Talia asked confused at my facial expression." Are you sure this is the venue?" " Yes, this area has been secluded for a while so there aren't much people here." " I can't go into that restaurant." I said walking back to the car. " What do you mean? You said you have to save your company?" She said following me closely behind." Yes, that exactly what I said but not this venue. No hear." Tears were already streaming down my cheeks and my hands were vibrating. " What's wrong Isabel? Talk to me please." She pleaded this time in a calm voice. " I can't just go through that door, I just can't." I said before entering the car.I sat down in my room curled up in one corner of the room. I had refused to eat or see anyone not even Talia. " Isabel you know this is not he

Miguel POVI paced the length of my room as I waited impatiently for the effect of my act. Few minutes later I heard the shrill sound of my ringtone. I smirk knowing I have the upper arm. I swiped the answer button." You better have a good explanation." I said immediately the call connected." You are breeching your contract by withdrawing your shares before the end of the said contract." I was suprised at her choice of word. I had expected her to have been begging for forgiveness but rendered me speechless." You also didn't keep your end of the deal." I said " Last I remember the contract was I help you with your product and you invest in my company. There was a stipulated period of time for your shares to remain with us." She said. The perfect comeback. " Right now, what you are hearing are called speculations, rumours that the Martinez corporation are going to stop doing business with Cruz group. Miguel POV " You better have a fucking good reason why you followed me down here." I said in a low tone to Vanessa." Chill out, I'm not following you. I have business here." She said taking a sip from the glass of scotch in her hand. "Business? So what are you doing at my parents house?" " Well it's been long I saw you and your parents are really lovely people. So I just decided to drop by." She said with a smirk." I don't want to see you near me or my family, keep your distance." I said before walking away. Sleeping was harder as I kept replaying my meeting with Miss Cruz. She is quite mysterious and intriguing. " A merger? How bad could that be?." I asked to myself. I get to help her company and she also gets to help me. Those were the thought that filled my mind before I was welcomed by sleep.I rolled my box against the airport tiles as I approached the departure area. I was to fly to Korea to seal a business deal. Miguel POVThe steady hum of the ventilator echoed in my head, louder than the faint beeping of the machines keeping Diego alive. The pale blue light from the monitors cast cold shadows across his face, the only sign he was still here. Alive. Barely.I stood motionless by the door, unable to step closer. I’d been there for hours, watching, waiting—powerless. My father was across the room, hands tucked behind his back, staring at Diego like he was trying to memorize every detail. His face, usually so composed, was pale and drawn. The silence between us was unbearable.Marissa shifted in her seat near the window, glancing between us before finally standing. She walked quietly over to him.“You should sit,” she said gently as she pointed toward the empty chair closer to where she stood up from.My father didn’t move, his eyes still locked on Diego.Marissa sighed, folding her arms. “Look... I know it feels hopeless, but he’s fighting. You can see it. And he’s got Miguel here. That has to

Miguel POVI stood frozen at the doorway, watching as the nurses worked over Diego with practiced precision. The room felt too bright now, the sterile white lights almost blinding after the darkness we’d been trapped in. Machines beeped quietly as they secured him on life support—tubes, wires, and screens forming a fragile connection between life and whatever came after. The rhythmic hiss of the ventilator filled the silence.Isabel and Marissa sat in the corner, speaking in hushed voices. Their words were low, but the tension in the room made them echo louder than they should have.“He’s been through so much,” Isabel whispered, her voice strained.Marissa nodded, leaning back against the wall with arms folded. “Yeah. All this time... searching for his brother. Only to find him like this? And Gideon—”“That name,” Isabel muttered, clenching her fists. “He’s haunted us for too long. Every time we think we’re safe, he finds a way back.”I gritted my teeth. They weren’t wrong. Gideon had

Isabel POV“Why hasn’t the power come back yet?” the doctor demanded, his voice strained as his hands pressed firmly on Diego’s chest. Sweat clung to his forehead, his arms moving in a steady rhythm. The silence was deafening, broken only by the doctor’s rhythmic counting.Miguel’s flashlight wavered as he clenched it tighter. “Why isn’t this working? Where’s the backup generator?”The scarred man had disappeared from the room, leaving us in the dark with nothing but the dull beam of light catching Diego’s pale, lifeless face.Marissa pressed her back against the wall, breathing hard. “I’ll check the hall again.” She said as she walked out sluggishly.Miguel’s voice cracked. “You’re not going alone.”Marissa’s eyes met his, calm but serious. “Then stay here and make sure Diego keeps breathing. I’ll handle it.” She said promisingly.Miguel hesitated, then nodded. His focus stayed locked on Diego as the doctor kept pressing.Miguel POVThe doctor’s hands never stopped moving, his voice

Miguel?” My voice was tight, barely above a whisper.“I’m here,” Marissa’s voice echoed from near the door, tense but steady.“I’m fine,” Miguel called back, his voice closer, more protective. “Isabel? Diego?”I felt Diego’s hand, still warm but unmoving. My fingers pressed lightly against his wrist, searching for the pulse. It was there—weak but steady.“I’ve got him,” I whispered, relieved but on edge. “He’s still here.”“What the hell just happened?” Marissa hissed; her countenance and expression barely visible against the window’s faint glow.Miguel fumbled with something, the sound of rustling fabric before a dim beam of light cut through the darkness. He’d switched on a small tactical flashlight, the narrow beam sweeping the room. The soft, shallow rise of Diego’s chest was visible again.

Isabel POVThe footsteps grew louder. My pulse raced as I exchanged a glance with Miguel. Marissa raised her rifle slightly, ready but controlled. The door creaked open.Three men entered, dressed in dark suits, their expressions cold and professional. No visible weapons—but their rigid postures told me they were trained for this kind of situation.Miguel shifted, moving slightly in front of Diego. “Who the hell are you?”The tallest man, with a scar just above his eyebrow, raised his hands. “We’re here for you, Miguel. Your father sent us.”Silence fell over the room.Miguel’s expression twisted, a mix of relief and anger. “And where is he?”The scarred man kept his voice even. “Unavailable. But we’re under strict orders to secure your safety and assist with your brother’s care.”Miguel exhaled, shaking his head. “Of course, he sent his thugs instead of showing up himself.”The man didn’t react. “We’re here to help. That’s what matters.”Marissa POVMy finger hovered over the trigger

Isabel POVThe buzz of the drone overhead made me freeze mid-step. Marissa cursed under her breath; her rifle still hidden beneath her coat. Miguel’s grip on Diego tightened, his expression grim as he glanced up at the sky.“They’ve got eyes on us,” Marissa said sharply, scanning the horizon.Miguel’s face was tense. “We need to keep moving.”“Wait,” I said, holding up my hand. “Diego can’t handle this. He’s not ready to be moved like this—he’s barely stable.”Miguel hesitated, his jaw tightening as he looked down at his brother. Diego’s face was pale, his breathing labored.“She’s right,” Marissa added, her voice softening. “If we keep running, we’ll kill him.”Miguel exhaled sharply. “Then what’s the alternative? We can’t stay out here.”I glanced back at the hospital. “We go back in.” I said sharply.Miguel POVMy instinct was to argue, but she wasn’t wrong. Diego couldn’t handle another step, and the drone above us meant we were out of options.“Back in?” Marissa asked, incredulou

Isabel POVThe nurse's whispered warning hit me like a slap. "You're being followed."Miguel stiffened beside me, his grip tightening on Diego's arm as we half-carried, half-dragged him into the small hospital lobby. "Who's following us?" Marissa demanded, her tone sharp and low."I don't know who they are, but they've been asking questions. They came through here earlier, showing pictures. They're still nearby.""We don't have time for this. My brother needs help."The nurse hesitated, her eyes flickering between Diego's pale face and the tension in Miguel's stance. Finally, she nodded. "Room four. Down the hall. I'll get a doctor."Marissa moved to the door; her rifle hidden beneath her coat. "I'll keep an eye out," she said, her voice calm but firm.I followed Miguel down the hallway, my heart racing. Isabel POVThe burst of static from the hidden comm device made my heart stop. The voice that followed was unmistakable.“Don’t move. You’re surrounded.”Miguel tensed, his eyes narrowing. Marissa gripped her rifle, scanning the forest for movement.“Gideon,” I whispered, my voice barely audible.“Congratulations,” the voice said, almost amused. “You’ve made it farther than I expected. But it ends here.”Marissa glanced at me; her expression sharp. “He’s bluffing. If we were surrounded, we’d already see them.”“he’s not the kind of man who bluffs,” Miguel said. The comm device crackled again. “Miguel, Isabel, Marissa... even Diego. your little escape. Impressive, but futile. Surrender now, and I might let you live.”Miguel’s jaw tightened. “Not a chance.”Marissa POVI hated the way Gideon’s voice got under my skin, as if he was already one step ahead. But I wasn’t about to give him the satisfaction of seeing us panic.“We need to move,” I said quietly, keeping my rifle raised. “Now.”
