Chapter 1: Shocking News
Rose husband, Derek, slammed a wad of papers on her face, his face filled with disdain for her, as he laced out his next words. “I want a divorce,” he said. His words came as clear as a joke to her, so they sent her laughing. Because, they is no way Derek could be asking for a divorce suddenly. “Are you kidding me?” Rose found herself questioning him in awe. “How can you be pulling my legs this much?” she chuckled, passing the paper back to him, “he must be joking” she thought. She had no idea what was written on the paper, but she was 110% sure that it wasn’t a divorce paper. Because why would he want to divorce her? And why so sudden? He never spoke about a divorce. “Don’t act like a fool now, Rose. Sign this paper immediately, so we can get this done and over with,” were the next words she heard from him, and his eyes pierced into her soul when he said this. “Are you kidding me or what?” Rose threw at him, already finding his joke boring, it was already becoming annoying, so she thought of ending it. “Do I look like someone who is kidding, Rose?” His words cut her short, and threw her in confusion. ‘what could be possibly wrong with this man?’ she wondered. “I just want you to sign the papers and stop bombarding me with useless and unnecessary questions.” His words hit her, and his eyes grew darker as they stayed on her. And as his eyes glowed on her, something was awkward; they were mean and had no atoms of emotion. Derek hasn’t been a good husband for the past 2 years, but she was hoping to work things out with him because she loved him so much. When he first came into my life, she was nothing but a poor orphan living in the streets and doing street jobs to survive. She recalled vividly how she met him. She had gone to steal bread from a fellow street orphan like herself because she was so hungry. And just when she was escaping with the bread, she was caught. Adam, the guy she stole from, called his friends, and they dragged her to a lonely part, probably to mess me up. Because he had been giving her the green light, which she had been turning down for a while. And just like she suspected, they dragged her to a lonely part to mess her up, but just when they were about to have their way with her, Derek, who was passing by, saw me and saved her. As for Adam and his friends? They were arrested, and Derek took her in, took care of her until I was 20, then he proposed to her, and they got married. When they got married, the first three years of their wedding were the best three years of Rose life, because Derek loved her, pampered her, and showed her compassion that no one ever had. She felt like the luckiest woman on earth; she felt on top of the world, and she felt finally safe. But just when she thought she could be happy and live the life she always wanted and dreamed of, Derek suddenly changed for the worse, and the story has remained the same till today. “Hey! What are you thinking? How to steal my money?” Derek’s words pulled her back to reality, and she was left to stare at him like a fool. “Here! Sign these damn papers so we can go our separate ways,” he threw the papers at her again. She watched as the papers hit her on the chest and scattered carelessly on the floor. She looked up at him, and watched as his emotionless eyes pierced deeper into my soul, and she could feel herself getting horrified and concerned. Horrified because she had never seen him stare at her so coldly, and concerned because she was bothered that he could be talking under the influence of some alcohol, since he is a chronic drinker. But on a second thought, she realized that she didn’t see him drink before coming out. “What’s wrong with you, Derek? Are you good?” she found herself questioning, her concerned eyes darting around him. “You can’t do this now,” she felt her voice pleading after what seemed like an eternity. The reality was already setting in; Derek wasn’t kidding when he asked for a Divorce earlier on. “You can’t dump me now, Derek,” she pleaded further, as she hoped for a miracle to take place. She was not ready to be left alone, she was not ready to live alone, she needed a shoulder to cry on. “Can we not do this here? Can you just give me a last chance to write my wrongs, if I had ever wronged you? You are all I have, Derek. If you leave me, like my parents did, what will become of me” her eyes were already red from crying, she knelt before him and clutched his trouser tightly. She hoped he would have compassion on her. “Get lost!” Derek sneered at her, like she was nothing. “Stop trying to compensate me, because it’s not working. Isn’t it obvious that I am done with you? Well, I am sorry for doing this on your birthday, but I have no other option, Rose,” he blurted, then paused before he continued. “I want you to be gone from my life by tomorrow,” he dropped this bombshell. Rose eyes moved to him in pain, but he wasn’t looking at her. He was avoiding her gaze like a plague. “Had he quickly forgotten what he promised her at the altar?” Rose wondered as she stared at him. “Pick yourself up and move on; I am sure you will find someone better than me,” she heard Derek say bluntly without any sign of remorse. “We can’t be together again, because my heart belongs to another now; I am no longer in love with you,” he continued. She focused her stare on Derek; his last words caught her attention. “Who are you in love with, Derek?” she pleaded, as tears bounced down her cheeks. “Just tell me you never truly loved me as your wife,” she screamed in pain and frustration. Everything was finally becoming clear, he really isn’t into her anymore. “Sign these papers before I let you see the love of my life,” Derek picked the divorce papers from the floor and passed them to Rose once more. She looked at the paper for a while and looked up to him. “You really want me to sign this, Derek?” she whimpered, tears gathering in her eyes yet again. This had to be the hardest decision she would have to ever make. “Stop prolonging matters; just sign this damn paper, and leave my life,” Derek barked into her face, obviously angered by her persistence. Rose watched him for a while in search of something – the feeling that once bound them – and she couldn’t find anything; they were all gone. This man wasn’t wrong when he said he loves another; he was really sure about it. And as she sat on the floor there, she knew this was the right time to end it. Even if she refused to sign this paper, it wouldn’t change the fact that this man in front of her no longer loves me, and would continue treating her like a piece of trash. “Here!” she passed the paper to him after scribbling in her signature. Derek grabbed them from her roughly, with a sinister smirk playing on his lips. A smirk that gave Rose the feeling that he was satisfied with the decision she took. “You made the right choice, Rose. Thank you,” were the next words she heard from him. “Now, I want to introduce you to my lover and my wife-to-be,” Derek grinned and clapped his hands. As his hands slapped against each other, the bright lights that once hung at every corner of the large ship converting them went dim immediately. And in no time, the spotlight, which was once on them, directed to a sumptuous figure of a lady who had a veil on her head. Rose watched as the lady walked up to Derek, her only interest being to catch a glimpse of her face. She looked so familiar, and she just couldn’t fathom why. More importantly, she wanted to badly see the face of the woman who just turned her life upside down. The veil slowly came off and Rose gasped in shock. Her heart beating dangerously against her ribs threatening to bore it's way out and shatter. This was the person She never thought could have betrayed her. Her beloved Aunt.Chapter 2: Shocking Revelation Rose stared at the one person she never expected would snitch on her with shock. She stared at her aunt in shock, unable to believe what she was seeing. She thought she might be dreaming; everything felt like a bad dream, and she prayed so hard to wake up from such a horrible dream. Because there's no way Sofia, her aunt, is the reason Derek divorced her. There's no way Sofia, her aunt, could betray her this badly and date Derek behind her back. Everything was just a great shock to her, and she reeled from it. "Surprised?" Derek's sudden question snatched her back to reality, and that was when it began to settle in: she wasn't dreaming; this is reality, and it's truly playing out in front of her. Her aunt, her only family left, really betrayed her. She could feel tears clouding her eyes as she stared at her aunt making silly faces at her. "Surprised?" her aunt's voice resounded in her ears. She battled her eyes as she tried to fight back the tea
Chapter 3: Who is she? 5 years on……. A black-colored Rolls-Royce Boatail drove into the parking lot, its tires screeching as it did. At the back of the car, she was seated, and her two little kids sat next to her. She was dressed in an elegant black silk gown, black heels, and a black hat. A gold necklace sat on her neck, and her ears were decorated with a matching gold earring. A gold bracelet sat beautifully on her left hand, and her right hand held onto her black designer bag. “We are here, ma,” her driver’s voice cooled out, his eyes focused on hers through the front mirror. “Phew!” She heaved with a sweet smile. “It’s finally good to be home,” she giggled, and her beauty shone forth as she did. With a swift motive, she turned to her children, who were sitting next to her and operating on their iPad, and said, “Do you want to explore NYC?” The kids lifted their heads up and nodded in delight. She smiled and patted her kids on their head. “Let’s get off then,” she
Chapter 4: Chaos Derek sat in his office operating on his system, his blue eyes pierced into his computer as he typed in words. Even as the AC cooled down, beads of sweat could still be found looming around his well structured face, making it obvious that he was In a hot seat. As he worked, his office door cracked open, revealing Sofia, his now wife. She had a sweet smile on her face as she walked up to him and placed a light peck on his cheek. “You have been in this position since morning; wouldn’t you take a break? You need rest,” Sofia said softly as she took the seat opposite him. Derek let out a smile before replying “I wish I could, but you see, no one can handle this business deal the way I can. We really need this deal, honey. Not only will it make us richer, but it will also give us more clients,” Derek explained, his eyes still fixed on the computer. “Ok, I understand you perfectly well, but still, you need to stop stressing yourself so bad. Besides, we already have e
Chapter 5: An Appointment Rose’s eyes lit up as she picked up the call. Her hands simultaneously lifted the phone to her ears, and her lips puffed out a calm “Hello.”“Hello!” the caller stammered out from the other end, realizing the phone had been picked.“Is this Miss Rose?” the feminine voice of the caller proceeded, her voice slightly filled with desperation.Rose chuckled before she replied, “Yes, I am. How can I help you?”“Oh my gosh! Finally! I have been trying to call you for ages, so I can fix an appointment with you, ma,” the caller stuttered from the other end.“Okay. What’s the deal? What’s so urgent that you want to discuss with me?” Rose’s voice was calm but dangerous. She already knew who was calling and why, so she just had to play along now.“Ma, please, we really need you in our company. My boss wants to meet you desperately,” the caller continued.“Your boss wants to meet me desperately? I hope there’s no problem?”“Oh no, not at all, ma. I promise you that the m
Chapter 6: The Beginning of Torment The evening air swept through the sky, giving a chilly sensation to the pedestrians on the street. The evening was beautiful and sang nothing but the beauty of nature. Few people walked up and down the streets, and cars zoomed to their destinations. Among the cars that drove to their destinations was a black-tinted Benz, the latest released one.The well-designed tires of the car synced rhythmically with the floor, and its beauty shone off. Inside the car sat a woman dressed in a black suit. Her composure and beauty could capture the heart of any man, even if his heart was made of stone. The suit hung beautifully and elegantly on her skin, and her long, flowy trousers attested to the beauty of the dress. Her black, shiny hair was beautifully styled, and her face was covered in natural makeup. Her ears, wrists, and neck were decorated with golden ornaments, and her legs were enclosed in golden heels.“Miss Rose, we are here already,” Rose’s driver s
Chapter 7: A First Step “Nice to meet you, Derek Reynolds,” she smiled at Derek, who stared at her in fear and shock. His mouth was wide open, and his face showed fear, shock, and horror.Derek stared at the most unexpected figure, as he tried to figure out if he was dreaming or seeing things. As his eyes stayed on Rose, his mind reflected on what had happened five years ago—the night he and Sofia had pushed her down into the ocean. He was certain he had seen her drown into the depths of the ocean, so definitely, he was obviously seeing things, because there was no way Rose could be back.“Are you alright, sir?” a voice pierced into his chain of thoughts, pulling him back to reality. “You have been absent-minded; are you sure you are okay, sir?” The voice proceeded.Derek stared stupidly for a while before letting out a reply. “I am fine,” he said, his eyes not leaving Rose, who only returned a smile.“Are you really okay? You seem flustered,” Rose spoke up, her eyes glittering aroun
Chapter 8: Two can play the game“I think the deal is already signed,” Rose said, pushing the pen aside. She had just signed the contract.“Thank you so much, ma. This means a lot to our company, and I promise that we won’t ever give you a reason to regret signing this contract with us,” Mrs. O smiled, her face filled with gratefulness. She was sure to be promoted now that Rose had signed the contract; Derek had promised her a promotion if she could get Rose on their side.“I think that’s all for now,” Rose giggled from her sitting position, letting out a charming smile.“Yes, ma, that is all for you until the contract kicks off,” Mrs. O replied with a bow.“Okay then. I hope to hear from you guys soon,” Rose said, picking her bag and phone from the table and preparing to leave.“You have been so calm throughout the meeting. I hope you are good?” Rose asked, her eyes dancing around Derek, who still seemed lost and lacked an idea of what was happening around him.Derek stared at her f
Chapter 9: More than an EnemyDerek couldn’t stop himself from fearing the unknown as he waited for the receiver to pick up his call. “Damn!” He cursed in annoyance when the call wasn’t picked up on the first ring. “Where exactly is this punk?” He breathed out in annoyance, his teeth seething and his hand fisting into a tight blow.He jammed his hand against the wall as he dialed the number again. “You better pick up this time, you fool!” He cuffed, unable to contain his anger. As he waited desperately for the receiver to pick up his call, his prayer finally came to pass. “You fool, where did you drop your phone and go?” he barked at his messenger. “Do you know how long I’ve been trying to reach you, you fool?” he barked on, and the man on the other end could do nothing but apologize.“I’m so sorry, sir. I was bathing when you called. I… ““Oh, shut your trashy mouth!” Derek cut him short. “If my life was on the line and I needed you to pick up the call on the first ring, would you h
Chapter 128: A Family Chat “But I hope you are not in serious pain?” Ken asked, his voice laced with a concerned tone. “No, I am fine,” Derek lied, so his son would worry less.“Ok, I am glad you are, Dad,” Ken said with a broad smile, and Derek smiled back. “So, when are we returning home?” Kendell asked, desperation evident in her eyes.“It’s obvious you are tired of this place already,” Rose giggled, seeing the desperation in her daughter’s eyes. “Yes, Mom, I am so tired of this place and want to go home already,” Kendell replied.“Well, I seriously don’t know when the doctor would be discharging us, so I can’t answer that question,” Rose answered kindly, and Kendell pouted. “Ouch! I really wanted to go home,” she said, pushing her lips out and rendering her face in a sad scorn.“Don’t act like a baby now; you are a big girl,” Ken interrupted, already having enough of his sister’s silly behavior. Kendell gave him a deadly glare and hissed, “I am not acting like a baby; I just mis
Chapter 127: I Miss YouRose yawned and stretched tiredly on the bed. She rubbed her eyes with her hands and sat up from the bed. Her eyes quickly moved to the wall clock, and she flashed up from the bed immediately. She took a quick glance at her husband and daughter, who were still sleeping, before she rushed out of the ward.Outside the ward, she rushed to the surgery room, where she met the doctor standing outside the room, accessing a file in his hand. “Thank goodness!” the doctor exclaimed on sighting her. “I was looking for your details so I could call, but glad you came at the right time,” the doctor said with a bright smile.“I couldn’t sleep throughout yesterday night, and when I eventually managed to sleep, I couldn’t stop thinking, so as soon as it was daybreak, I hurried over here,” Rose explained hurriedly.“So, can I see them now? You said the surgery was successful,” Rose’s eyes danced around the doctor as she queried.“Yes, ma’am, the surgery was a success,” the doc
Chapter 126: Be Positive Rose sat on Derek’s bed after keeping her daughter next to her. She gave him a long stare of pity before pulling his hands into hers. “Derek,” she mumbled slowly.“Didn’t I warn you not to go after them? Didn’t I warn you to stay back with us and allow the police to do their job?” she said to her unconscious husband.“What if something happens to you? What if you have died? What would have become of us? Who gave you the right to come into our life and leave again?” She couldn’t hold back her tears this time around.“Your son is having surgery right now, and I am scared. You know I am not strong-hearted; you should have been here to comfort me and assure me that everything would be fine,” she sniffed, the pain hitting deep.“You should have been hale and healthy by now, and not lying unconscious on this hospital bed,” she continued. “So you better wake up now, because I am tired of seeing you in such a situation, because it is eating me up, and it isn’t funny
Chapter 125: The surgery After what seemed like an eternity to Rose, Sofia and the doctor showed up. Sighting them from afar, she rushed to them and inquired about the results of the test. Her worried eyes darted from her sister to the doctor as she awaited a response. She watched as the doctor’s lips spread into a bright smile before he replied, “They are a match.”“They are?” Rose exclaimed excitedly, and the doctor nodded, a bright smile on his lips. “I am glad I am able to save your son’s life,” Sofia said with a bright smile, and Rose pulled her into a warm hug. “Thanks so much, Sofia. Thank you,” Rose said amidst the hug.“Mom, does this mean that Ken will be fine?” Rose heard and immediately knew it was her daughter. She looked down below her, where the voice erupted, and there, in front of her, stood her daughter, just as she expected. She pushed out a bright smile and bent to her daughter’s level. “Everything is going to be fine now; everything will be perfect now,” she
Chapter 124: Check Mine The nurses pushed the stretcher into the surgery room; Derek lay weakly on the stretcher, and the officer ran after them.“Please, can you keep him safe? Please protect him,” the officer pleaded with the doctors, his face etched with worry.“We have no guarantee for now, but we will do our best to make sure that nothing happens to him,” one of the nurses replied in a comforting tone. The officer couldn’t respond; he just watched the nurse like a fool.“Ok, you can’t enter here with us, so please just remain outside and pray for him,” the nurse said when they finally got into the surgery room. The officer staggered back and fell weakly onto one of the chairs in front of him. He sat there, confused and unsure of the next thing to do.“I need to inform his wife about this; I really need to,” he muttered after a while, and he wandered off to look for Rose.He asked anyone he came across until he really got to a person who knew her.“Sorry, do you know about any pa
Chapter 123: Deadly Encounter Derek walked out of a corner, his frustration growing thin. His hands were placed on his hips, and beads of sweat washed down his face. His tired eyes danced around the police officer as he waited for a response.“Yes, sir, I just finished looking and can’t find anything, but the other officers are also looking around,” the man pointed to the rest of the officers who were combing the area.“And I also placed other officers to comb through other areas in the city,” the officer added, and Derek nodded casually.“Gosh! How could that jerk escape?” Derek felt a surge of pain wash through him, and his anger extended. “We really need to find them, because apart from the fact that they need to be brought to justice, I also have a lot of questions to ask them,” Derek said.“I will make sure we find them; they couldn’t have left the city, also because we have put officers in every exit and airport,” the officer reassured again, and Derek felt a bit of hope wash
“Oh my God! So you’re trying to say they escaped?” the officer fired, and the deputy couldn’t answer. “Jess!” the officer ended the call and turned to the eyes dancing around him. Before they could ask him anything, he threw it at them: “They escaped.”“They escaped? Who?” Sofia repeated, still not understanding where the officer was headed. The officer looked at each of them and blinked his eyes continuously before replying, “Dave and Anna escaped the station, and they are currently on the run.” The officer gathered all the strength he had in him and said. He watched as they all widened their eyes in shock, and how the women's eyes quickly moved to fear and worry. As for Derek, he grew angry.“We must find them; we can’t let them go just like that,” Derek folded his hands in annoyance and paced back and forth, still unable to control his anger. “But how can they escape? How were they able to escape such a big station?” He turned to the officer and frowned. “It’s your duty to ret
Chapter 121: They Escaped Rose unleashed from the hug after a while and stared into Sofia’s eyes. “Sofia, why did you got me worried? You weren’t picking up your calls, neither did you call me back to inform me why you didn’t pick up.” She gave her a stern look and looked at the officer. “Why is an officer with you?” She shuddered after processing it.“Lol! Don’t worry,” Sofia tapped her shoulders and said, “She could sense the fear that lies beneath her question.” “There’s nothing to be scared of, okay? He isn’t arresting me or anyone,” Sofia added, her lower lip stretched in a light smile.“Okay, what is going on here?” Derek’s voice sliced into their conversation, and his eyes quickly moved around them. It was only then that Rose realized that he couldn’t see the two of them together, but then it was already late; he had already seen them, and she couldn’t hide it anymore. She tucked a piece of hair obstructing her view into the back of her ear and turned to Derek. “She is my s
Chapter 120: A Warm Embrace Dave had a sneer-smile on his face as he watched Sofia and the policeman walk out of the station. Everything was already plotted out; he was going to escape, dead or alive. He wasn’t done with his vengeance yet, so they had no right to lock him up. He knew deep down that he must complete what he came to do before he could have the peace he needed. Everything was already plotted out, and his escape plan would kick off now.“Does those two bastards think that I will let them have a great life after everything they have done to me?” He fisted his hands and turned to Anna, who was locked in the same cell with him. Anna gave him a mocking glare before replying, “And what possible can you do in this state?” She rolled her eyes as she spoke, and Dave could feel the mockery in her tone. “Are you downgrading me right now? Do you think I can’t do it?” He glared at her, his eyes burning with rage, but Anna didn’t care about the amount of rage in his eyes; she pre
