Chapter 66: Fading Love

Ava's POV

Miguel's last words to me stung like bees. They were like quicksand, slowly sucking me into a puddle of pain.

How dare he say that he didn't need me anymore after everything we've been through?

And why did those words hurt so much?

I veered my head to the elevator, catching his gaze for a second before the door closed, and that was it. Just like that, he was gone.

I couldn't move, and my heart felt like it was collapsing on itself. It hurt so much more than I ever thought it would.

My eyes pricked, and I could feel a tear threatening to slip out, but I held back. I brushed my hair behind my ear and took a final look back at the elevator before heading to the emergency ward to wait for Fernando.

I was worried about him even more now that he had lost an eye. I still couldn't believe Miguel shot him in the eye. It had been the most unexpected incident, and my body was still trembling out of shock.
