Zach leaned back on his chair in his apartment’s office that weekend night as he played repeatedly the footage inside the amusement café that occurred two days ago. He adjusted the settings of the video to make it go slow so he can see the trajectory of the bullet the moment it broke through the glass.
He remembered when he returned the next day to continue assessing the area. He stood by the glass storefront where the bullet broke through and looked towards the open area. He took his binoculars and scanned through for the possible position of where the shot came from.
He had concluded that only one person could be able to do that after he got the report from the ballistics expert on the bullet that went through the dead suspect’s head.
A sniper.
A damn good one.
And, he has no idea who that person is.
Zach picked up the document that Alex had submitted to him and read through it. He had to give credit to her as he read th
Alex opened her eyes when her alarm clock sounded on an early Sunday morning. She turned off her alarm clock and remained lying on her bed. Instead of getting up to go for a longer run, which she always does on weekends, she had no desire to do that. Thoughts of her interrogation with Zahid Kazmi has been bothering her ever since she had finished typing the report and submitting it to Montgomery. She kept on playing in her mind the interaction she had and relayed it to Damon when he met her at the park, late Friday night. “There’s something not connected with what we are trying to investigate, Damon,” she commented softly. She placed down the recorder after playing it the fourth time. “The Triad Sentinel is a European organization. Scarlett Syndicate is not.” Damon looked down at her. “They network, Alex,” he chided gently. “Aren’t you supposed to know that? Saood will look for a way to come here undetected. He did that to you, remember? It nearly cos
Zach’s eyes narrowed when he saw Alex being approached by one guest and started a conversation with her that night at Congressman Jamison’s office building’s function room. He watched as the man shook her hand a little longer than it’s usual and how Alex was able to pull her hand away.He couldn’t help but blamed her for the attention she is getting. As much as she had tried to remain uninteresting to blend in with the crowd, her height and built had made her stand out from the women attending the private affair the congressman had thrown. Her bright, emerald eyes also made the male-dominated guests looked at her longer, on the verge of becoming ill-mannered.“Why do I have to be there?” Alex asked earlier after Zach had finished his breakfast at the diner.Zach, on Sundays, will usually spend his day in his apartment with Jacinta or would go out for a drive and eat outside. Things changed when he received a call
Alex, after entertaining and talking with the visitors of Congressman Jamison was finally able to escape the crowd and hurriedly went to the bathroom. She made sure that all stalls are unoccupied, even if most of the guests were male just as a precaution, and went to the last one, securely locking it.She took her phone out from her purse when she felt it vibrating and saw Damon calling her.“Are you alone?” Damon then asked when she answered.“Yes,” she answered calmly. “I’m here at the last stall.”“Alright,” he then said. “The glock’s beneath the tank as well as well as two extra magazines.”“Where are you?” She asked after she took the firearm, raising the pants on her right leg and placed it securely on the band she had around below her knee. “Are you on your own?”“I’m at the building right across the park of the congressman&rsqu
Zach went through the glass doors of the bureau’s office building late morning of the following day after giving a short press conference the office of the congressman insisted, they do was done. He knew the reason behind that assertion. It’s a political move by his office to make sure that the congressman’s name will always be in the spotlight.“You did good in avoiding direct answers, Montgomery,” Director Worthington said as they entered the elevator together, just the two of them. “Has Walters already submitted her report?”“Not yet, sir,” Zach replied formally. “But I’m expecting it on my desk the minute I go back there.”The director nodded in silence and looked at his watch.“Sir? If you don’t mind me asking again?” Zach then said, turning to looked at the director calmly and waited for him to nod for approval. “You know that I asked about how you know A
Alex handed the menu back to the waiter after the order was finalized. She leaned back on her chair and watched as Damon added some appetizers for their lunch. She looked around the restaurant that is currently in its peak hour with the lunch crowd, coming in.“Last night I was cozying up with that FBI and now you’re having me cozied up with you,” she started sarcastically, looking at him pointedly when the waiter took off. “Is that part of Marshall’s plan as well?”“Your boss from hell came out a few minutes after you did,” Damon answered with a grin. “I’m simply putting on a show to make sure you will be having his attention once lunch is over. Besides, we look good together if I may say so.”She made a face and Damon laughed.“He’s interested on you, Walters. Now, you need to use that to your advantage. You have to win his side and if making him jealous is the way to do it, t
“What the hell was that shot, Walters?!”Alex lowered the gun she is holding and turned to Zach, who is shooting daggers at her after the target shooting session she just had completed. She took off her goggles and earmuffs. It was the following and the minute that she had arrived, she was ordered to head straight to the gym, towards the target shooting area where Zach is waiting for her. When she arrived at the venue, she was surprised to see that it was only Zach that is waiting for her.“Not my day, Mr. Montgomery,” Alex replied calmly as she took out the empty magazine and placed it on the ledge. “Or just a slow start for me today.”“Really? Well, I got the whole day, Walters,” Zach answered evenly. “Another round!”She stood rigid, looking at him stonily before turning back to her area and grabbed for another magazine, loading up the gun. She put on her goggles and earmuffs back, unlo
Zach watched Alex finally took off after scouting the vicinity to find a spot where he will assign a sniper to take up post and try to check if they can eliminate the hostage takers from above.“Have they given their demands?” He asked Malcolm, who is at the center.“Two get away cars at the back entrance with the tank full,” Malcolm answered seriously. “We can place a tracker on that so we can immediately locate them.”“Why do they need two?” Zach asked.“Diversion is my guess,” Malcolm replied.“Well, we’re dealing with some smart asses today,” Zach responded dryly as he took the megaphone from the table and stood up straight. He raised the megaphone to his mouth. “This is the FBI! I understand that you had demanded for two cars to be parked at the back entrance.”“Where are they, as$hole?!”One of the hostage takers shouted, who is
Alex got down from her bike and immediately parked it by the alleyway, besides the backdoor of the diner that late afternoon once she got out from work. She took off her helmet and made sure that she had securely lock the vehicle. She went through the back door and immediately placed her helmet on the shelf to her right.“What happened?” She immediately asked when she saw the faces of the kitchen staff.“Alex, Kathleen was here a while ago,” Sally started.Alex’s mouth formed into a thin and tight line and immediately went to the dining area. Thankfully, there are no customers inside. She stopped short when she saw Ashley, with her tear-stained face and looking shaken, she had a suspicion of what might have happened. Their aunt is currently comforting her.“What did she do?!” Alex demanded, clutching her fist. She walked towards her sister and looked down at her, concern on her face as well as anger. &ldquo
