Alex placed the tray of empty plates and glasses on top of the counter the following late Monday morning and smiled as the waitress manning the counter, took them immediately and brought it towards the kitchen. She then resumed arranging the vacated tables, arranging the chairs.

She then grabbed the mop she left leaning on one counter and started mopping the floor. She looked up when she heard the bell from the entrance sound and frowned.

Vincent Worthington, her stepfather’s stepbrother walked inside the diner and stopped when he saw her. He gave out a wave at her aunt, who appeared behind the counter from the kitchen.

“I’ll have some coffee ready for you,” Vicky called out politely.

“Very domestic,” he drawled as he sat on one table and gestured for Alex to sit as well.
