Chapter 71
Selena's POVEverything faded leaving just my shocked face and the paper. It was almost unbelievable but I was certain the universe, moon goddess and everything good and right is working in my favor. The surname was a dead giveaway. Who is this man? Uncle, cousin? I couldn't find myself giving a fuck about that. What were the odds of finding this single piece of paper in the midst of this mess?"Lily?", I called out.Lily's rummaging ceased as she popped her head out of one of the dusty shelves. "Yes?""I've found it", I stated, too dazed to even muster a smile. "Can you believe it? I can't."Lily rushed to me, pulling me in a tight hug. "I told you it'll work out, didn't I?""Yes. Yes, you did but I just...""It's fine. I know you're probably too excited to even muster a few words", she chuckled, patting my shoulder softly. "Come on."Just as we were walkingChapter 72Selena's POV The man scoffed but slammed his hand over the cash, pulling it slowly to himself without breaking my stare. "I see you're one fearless young lady", he snarled out, baring his brown teeth to me. In all honesty, I was a tad bit frightened by him but not so much that I physically trembled. It was more of a cautious sort of fear. "Come on then", he drawled out, the heavy southern accent in his tone prominent. He walked around the counter, right to where we stood. Lily was awfully quiet next to me that I threw a glance in her direction, just to be sure.He climbed a flight of rickety stairs, throwing us a quick peek over his shoulder to ensure we were following. The music and loud chattering dimmed significantly as Lily's shoulders sagged in relief. Making a mental note to ask her what all that was about, the bartender pushed open a wooden door, revealing a tiny room.
Chapter 73Selena's POV "Welcome", Lily and I chorused, moving aside for the man to walk in. Reynold was not as I imagined. While I knew he was probably twice my age, his face and hair concealed his age by a lot. No one would believe he was fifty years old when he looked thirty. "You must be Selena", he turned to me, his sharp green eyes piercing. I raised a brow, silently wondering how he was able to identify me. "You look like your mother."Clearing my throat, I ushered him further into the room. "Come in."Lily excused herself, rushing to grab a drink. She returned in less than five minutes. "This isn't necessary", Reynold shook his head. "In fact, we won't be here for long. I have no idea why you're living in this condition.""Listen, Mr. Reynold. I don't mean to be rude but we're basically strangers. I only contacted you because you were my last resort in finding out about my parents and my identity.""Yes", he nodded in understanding, his eyes straying to Lily. "This is a
Chapter 74Axel POV The entire pack house was in a flurry. Most patrol guards had been dispatched to the neighboring forests and cities. We'd gone as far as other packs to inform them about Selena and I could only pray to the moon goddess that she was safe. I knew this wasn't a kidnap, or else her room wouldn't be so organized and her maid would be released to pass a message across. They had stowed away some clothes and the members of the pack reported seeing them leaving the pack house with a duffel bag. The pack driver had driven them to a boutique and Selena had instructed him to return in a few hours. It was clear as day, she had gone away based on her own free will. I couldn't be relieved nor upset. My emotions were all over the place, which made it even more difficult to suck it up and be a leader in this hard time. Asher was working almost as hard as I was. On certain instances, he followed the search team. It was suspicious, but there was nothing I could hold against him.
Chapter 75Selena's POV I clutched the headrest, shutting my tightly as I wished earnestly for the wave of dizziness to pass. I had no idea what was wrong. After arriving safely to this mansion, scratch that, my mansion, I had a long and much needed bath, followed by a rejuvenating sleep. If anything, I was healthier than ever, so why did I feel like crap?"Hey", Lily peeked in, not bothering to knock. "Hi", I straightened up, forcing a smile on my face. "Why do you look like that?", she frowned, rushing to my side. "You look so pale and tired.""I'm not tired. I've just had the best rest in the history of rests", I chuckled as she wrinkled her nose. "Whatever. You still need to see a doctor.""Who needs to see a doctor?", Reynold asked as he joined us in the room. "Selena looks a bit sick, don't you agree?"Reynold kept silent, staring at me under his keen eyes. "Yes. Her face has lost its color and if my memory serves me right, she seemed to have added a bit of weight."I bla
Chapter 76Axel's POV "Where's she?", I questioned the old lady who seemed absolutely confused. "Who?""Two ladies visited your orphanage home, right? Do you remember one with pitch black hair and honey brown eyes?"The woman, Agatha, seemed to be deep in thought. "Yes. Selena, yes?"At the mention of Selena's name, I leapt from the couch, rushing to the woman's desk. "Yes. Selena. Where is she now?""Well, I can't say because she never mentioned it. She even left without personally saying goodbye, just a verbal message to one of my workers."I breathed out heavily, running a frustrated hand through my hair. "So you have no idea or hint or assumptions?""She was looking for information about her birth parents. I don't know any more than all I've said to you, I promise."I could tell the woman was being sincere, so I straightened up, rewarding her with some space from my intimidating presence. She visibly relaxed in my absence. Blake pulled me away from the desk. "If Selena is in s
Chapter 77Selena's POV "How are you feeling?", Lily asked, looking down at me from her sitting position on the side of the bed. "I'm fine. For the fifteenth time, I'm fine."Ever since the doctor declared me with child, Lily had been treating me like a delicate porcelain doll that could shatter at any moment if handled wrong. The question she asks after every hour is if I felt fine. I truly was. The nauseous feeling and occasional dizziness were not a bother anymore and I still felt normal, like another werewolf wasn't growing in me. "Okay. I'll need to go buy some food items in the market so I won't be around for some time. Just in case."I frowned, straightening up from the bed. "Why are you going to buy food items? Lily, that's not your work anymore, remember? Let the chefs handle the cooking and others, the cleaning", I stated, a finality tone in my voice. "I'm not cooking for the entire house and I'm not doing the cleaning either. You were very adamant in convincing me to s
Chapter 78Selena's POV Lily rushed to my front, spreading her arm out to shield me from the man whose face was still obscured by the hood over his head. "Don't you dare try anything stupid", Lily threw a glare at the man, eyeing him as he let out a loud, derisive chuckle at her words. "I won't hesitate to bury my fist into your heart and watch you bleed out to death", his gravelly voice sent a shot of fear through me and I could tell Lily was scared as well, but she still stood still as a shield, protecting me from him. "What do you want?", I asked, my voice surprisingly steady unlike the war raging in my mind. "That's a very good question", the man replied, bringing his hand to his chin as he rubbed slowly in deep thought. "You see, my clear instruction is to get rid of you, as simple as that. So, if you could just stay still while I perform my assignment, I'd very much appreciate that.""You must be very delusional", Lily glared hotly at him. "We aren't alone and very soon, th
Chapter 79Selena's POV I rushed back to the spot where Lily laid for the past thirty minutes, her head buried between her knees as she sobbed loudly. The alley was hidden from the public's eyes, but there were at least three to five werewolves who took this path every ten minutes. Her eyes were bloodshot from crying for so long but the moment she heard the sound of my feet, she raised her head, eyes widening as she took me in, perhaps wondering if it was a dream. My hands still dripped fresh blood, making a tiny poodle where I stood facing her. "Goddess dear me", she exclaimed, limping over to me in disbelief. "You're bleeding", she pointed out, scanning my arms for any signs of injury. "I'm fine", I tried to console but Lily seemed to think the blood belonged to me. She was slowly getting to the brink of full blown panic. "The blood doesn't belong to me."Lily stopped her frantic movement before looking up to me s
